Agreed, I worry about some people finances when I read things like that.

I blame the football manager slider system. You can adjust your transfer budget and wage budget in a sliding scale. Increase transfer budget decreases wages and vice versa.

All that being said we’ve negotiated harder in recent years on the deals we’ve done for Bruno and Sancho etc. So fingers crossed we can stretch whatever budget we do have in a similar way to Arsenal when they had a ‘£50m’ budget but spent a lot more in totality.

Everything I've read about him so far just backs up exactly what I suspected of him. A well researched, football obsessive that lives and breathes the game.

I really am thoroughly excited. He is the perfect choice.

His ability as a coach is impressive, the style of football, everywhere he has moved give him better resources he does better, the challenge is ridding the culture within the group, he has a SAF level of challenge to deal when he came here, more so, dealing with "footballers" who are using their association with the club to promote their celebrity, social media and clothing ranges, he has to be ruthless, we are stuck in a period where the likes of woodward was happy to sign big names to sell jerseys, promote brands etc, the positive is we appointed Murtough and Fletcher and got rid of woodward, change has happened, the appointment of Ragnick smelt like a pre cursor to Ten Hag, now that has come to fruition, it seems like there is a plan, it is going to take a cultural change from the club to let him do it, there are signs that might happen, we are very proud of how we conduct ourselves as a club, but this announcement before his current campaign ends is a departure from how we normally operate, we can now plan for the Summer window (it will take more to fix it) but this seems a more concerted effort on a football level to do what is right, interesting to watch, you will know soon, the right thing to do for example is let Pogba go, we could sign 2 quality cm getting rid of his salary for fair prices who buy into the manager's philosopy and perform like they care, lots of other shite to ditch awell.

Reading this thread, I'm beginning to think he might have joined wrong the club.

We've signed what should be an excellent technician and a training ground manager. Someone who's known for his technical brilliance at Ajax. But it seems like most of you want is a hard man/personality to get the lads working.

Like we've hired a clever software engineer & what our fanbase want is a shift leader to run an amazon warehouse.

Can anybody recommend an Ajax match that showcases his style of football? I‘m not looking for the outliers, I‘m looking for a typical performance. Ideally Champions League. Thanks

Real Madrid vs Ajax in Madrid, 2019. UCL round of 16.

Roy Keane has got everyone thinking we need a hard man. But then again Roy Keane failed as manager, he even shaved his beard due to stress after that.

Paul Mitchel on the way too excellent club is finally operating properly.

I’ve seen a lot of comparisons to De Boer and Koeman, but I don’t think that’s fair on Ten Hag. Ideally what you look for when you seek a coach to manage at the very highest level is a coach that has proven they can overachieve. You need a manager that has shown he can dominate “weaker” leagues, not just win games with the best teams. That’s what Ten Hag has shown, he hadn’t just won back to back titles, but his teams look so well drilled, they make so many games look like training drills. Especially early days this season they had a ridiculous goals scored/goals conceded ratio, something like 59 scored/5 conceded. Whilst his teams don’t exactly play like Peps city, it’s the similar level of domination. That’s the overachieving I point to that separates him from other managers such as De Boer.

Plus he has shown he can effectively rebuild a side, and he has earned his stripes, slowly working his way up from being an assistant, to managing second teams, then getting a couple of first team gigs. This isn’t an Ole situation, but it also isn’t a LVG situation whereby the manager is past his prime years.

So so excited about this. This is the first time in the post SAF era I’ve been properly excited about our direction as a club

Whether or not this is true, EtH's biggest job is going to be convincing the players to buy-in to his ideas.

We've already seen how Ole failed to make them a possession based side in the first half of this season, and how Rangnick failed to make them a pressing side in the second half. Ten Hag can't afford ambivalence to be the overriding feeling in the dressing room.

Despite what The Athletic are saying don't think for a second he won't be analysing every detail of these final 5 games. The ones on the edge will probably suddenly find that ability to give a shit again.

Yeah getting them to buy in is so key, remember there being reports about players not liking Klopp training in early days. Well they have certainly seen the benefits of putting in that hard work.

Not like he has much choice with Bruno, but the only one i'd disagree with really is McTominay

Jamie Jackson is unreliable these days. What has he got right recently without being so obvious?

It feels like I’ve been through these motions of a new manger too many times. I felt the same way for LVG, Mourinho and Ole but this time there’s a difference, I think with Ralf coming in and a change in setup upstairs there’s been a turning point. With rumours Ralf wanted ETH and on top of that 2 senior scouts “leaving” it seems the club has had a major shift towards not just a new manager but other areas of the footballing side of the club. I’m quietly confident this time, things will be different and ETH has Ralf to give him an honest opinion on the players and what areas need improvement and who should be sold…!

Ten Hag confident of Manchester United revival without lavish budget | Manchester United | The Guardian

Hell, I agree with everything about that. Great to see McT on that list, he's got a good attitude. IMO if we have to sign a very expensive player, we could do a lot worse than Rice.

Assume if Jamie Jackson is accurate so this is the next season starting XI he tried to develop and improve. Is this the main reason why there were rumours about Shaw and Rashford are being offered a new contract because apparently Ten Hag believes that there is something he can do to improve these what we consider as deadwoods.

Ffs, why is Reddy all of a sudden the United correspondent for Sky?

Yeah, that's like a line directly ripped from the "Next Permanent Manager" thread to appease us

Yeah looks like she is the Cooper replacement and didn't expect that at all

Nothing like an Ajax product for a good clean up.

Oh my. That's so true, and I have a few of those at home. :D

Considering the large movement of personnel in the last 24 hours, I'm really excited. We were long due a proper purge behind the scenes, and that will trickle down onto the playing squad at last.

We used to have only one person against the players. It happened during Jose and to a certain extend LvG. They wanted some players out and brought in the new ones. But alas it was a futile attempt. Now everyone seems to have this wake up call that the players have largely failed expectations. On top of it all there are mainly two persons in charge of actually directing the club now. Ralf and ETH with Ralf understanding whats wrong with the club firsthand. That also takes a little pressure off ETH since Ralf was the one who began the fights. If we go all the way with this approach, I believe we can turn things around.

No worries, both situations needed change and quite a bit. Both are projects not quick turnarounds.

Its a personal thing but I’d take a 7-8/10 player (an Albiston, a Duxbury (though both good Intls)) with an attitude on the pitch of giving every thing over Maguire, Rashford, Pogba any day of the week. Thats the attitude I want. Our squad may well be better athletes but we still have some who seem to be overly interested in advertising, creating brands, social media, politics. Do that when you quit football (or leave United… I don’t care then).

The departures, the transfer window, the promotion of youth (even if just as squad players initially) and the first few teams ETH puts out next season will tell us a lot.

Most excited I’ve been since Fergie left. Moyes was out of his depth, Jose lives for the short-term/cheque book, Ole out of his depth and had a bunch of babies to manage and Ralf stop gap.

Yeah, I get where you’re coming from. In the fifties myself (not English), my heroes were Lou Macari, Gary Bailey and Bryan Robson to begin with. One half Italian, one half South African, but you knew it was the British game, no doubt about that.

It was actually interesting listening to a podcast put out here in the McClaren thread, where he speaks an hour or so with his son. He’s obviously in his sixties, his son a football fanatic but much younger, and it really comes across how McClaren sr has learnt over time the difference between footballers fifty years ago and footballers now. The macho, no emotions, deliver the grit culture of his previous day, has given over to a combination of courageous aggression and emotional security, of critical honesty and empathical compassion and care. Robson, Giggs and Keane had little time and language for that, Klopp and Guardiola are effective because they have the full monty.

Now, we know from ie Georgie Best that young footballers could be sensitive, impressionable and interested in other atuff even back in the day, but how to get this generation on board is another kettle of fish. In by on board, we are not talking about ‘positive and trying’’, the last mile is about being fanatically dedicated above everyone else (who also try their best).

When you mention the twitter knights, it makes me think back to the cup final of 96’, and Fergie derisory remarking the ‘Pool players in their fashionable white suits, joking and laughing cockily. ‘We’re not like that’. And in a way, maybe Marcus Rashford wanting to secure school meals for kids, Juan Mata making 1% foundation and writing poetry for kids is as much the same as the white suits as JLingz and all that shite is.

A point, though, is that the players today might not stray because they are selfish and spoilt, so much as because they are sensitive and care about other’s feelings and opinions. They down tools not out of laziness, but out of helplessness and despair.

The result on the scoreboard might look similar, but the medicine has to be different. Which is possibly a part of the reason why Roy Keane is not a top manager today. The other part is that he cant read and explain football as well as Guardiola, Klopp, and hopefully Ten Hag can. McClaren is certainly a fan, and he’s older and more British than me ;)

Why does he miss June :(
It seems to be the football contract year run until end of June, and a new contract year starts July. Doesn't mean ETH would get police called on him if he wants to get permission to visit, to know the clubs, players before the official day.

I think these are the positions where most budget will be spend. Then we might see one or two cheap signing for winger and a full back or mid.

BBC Podcast about him.

Listening to the initial comments, its sounds like LVG re-visited. the level of details almost made the players' heads explode. Instead of praising them, LVG would go into detail on how they should improve themselves by correcting this mistake or that. The players felt that they were always under a microscope.

I worry that with our Gen Z players, I don't know if they can handle such levels of 'criticism' as opposed to 'analysis'.

Erik - So what areas of the team need improvement then

Ralf - How long have you got

This is also from the athletic article.

"Only then did the Glazers speak to Ten Hag. It was a pivotal moment, as Joel and Avram Glazer held a lengthy meeting with the Dutchman. They asked him questions and vice versa. Both parties are thought to have been impressed with each other."
Glazers asked all yes no questions. ETH answered with all yes.

Yes man Pep Guardiola is my idol gets hired. Meltdown incoming

Surely it’s our defense and DM that needs sorting out first? Through Ragnick I see our attackers moving differently and playing off each other in more unique ways. For me it’s our piss poor fullback effort and contribution and our defense making simple mistakes. If it was focusing on attack as opposed to defense i would prefer the latter right now. I forget how strong our defense and system use to be.

Which do you see as higher priority out of RB/CB

Couldn't be less excited about this.

Because setting the bar so low makes any sight of improvement a major win. Best of luck to the ETH reign.

Read similar comments a week or so back that's he's very strict and almost a control freak which is probably not what these players are used to  :nervous: . Hopefully not many of these players will remain at the club though.
