Erik ten Hag | 2022/23 & 2023/24

Reports coming out tonight that he could walk away in the summer if he doesn’t get control of certain aspects of the club. Can see a big managerial merry go round in the summer. Ajax would take ETH back and Dortmund may be interested… he’ll get another decent job whether he’s sacked or walks away.

"You can't fire me, I quit!"

I would like to give him a chance but he has deviated from the style that made him admirable at Ajax. He can go with this shit transition football he has us playing though. Only proof we have that he can actually coach that sort of style is the horrid performances this season.

Please for the love of god Ten Hag, revert to 2022/2023 tactics. Stop this madness. Why on earth is he playing like this? Every single game, we look wide open. Farcical yesterday how many times we gave away the ball. Stop playing Mainoo so far up field. He's looking very anonymous lately as part of these insane tactics. Also why bring on Antony when he's gonna do nothing. Ten Hag has had enough time. He got rid of Ronaldo, De Gea, Sancho and has had plenty of time moulding his own team. Yes he's had injuries but even with our strongest team this season, we still look wide open and awful to watch. Ten Hag has got to go.

supporting a manager is never abhorrent. What a weird statement.
If you want abhorrent posters - look in the Greenwood thread or the ones who were desperate for literally evil owners to take us over.

ETH seems like a good man.

So was Moyes, Ole and Ragnick. Doesn't mean they're the right man for the job though does it?
Personally I think he probably looks down at others because he thinks he's far better than he is.

Sooner he's gone the quicker we can start the rebuild. We shouldn't let him hang around like a bad smell any longer than he already has.
And to the pro Erik gang. Us on the other side do not blame him for everything, we blame the lazy shithouses on the pitch and the morons above him. It doesn't have to be either or, it can be all 3 which it is.

I can't see him being at the club next season. Too many reports coming out now.

Considering you compare any nuanced approach of 'give him a chance' to performing an involuntary sexual act, you may indeed be right about such standards.

Reckon we should give him a chance under the new Ineos tenure, rather than boot him out impatiently and replace him with a mediocrity. Wasting precious years in the process.

ETH himself is a mediocrity. The only reason not to boot him out now is who to replace him with.

This is the summer that there’s a few decent teams looking for managers. He may look at that and think I could jump straight back into management. I just pray to god if we replace him it isn’t with potter or Southgate. I’d rather keep ETH.

I’m not sure he’ll be sacked though… with the financial difficulties, if we sacked him we’d owe him something like 12m. Also if we don’t qualify for the CL then that’s more money lost. We could be stuck with him for at least another season… unless he leaves on his own terms.

I’m certainly not a Southgate fan but the team INEOS seem to be building have worked with Southgate before at England and have helped create an environment where England could make the most of what they have. You would hope that if he does come in it would be short term to improve the standards and atmosphere.

Given how he seems to think he's right on everything he does and any failure is on everybody else, I imagine it might appeal to him to get a way out with some credibility intact and dress it up as him not agreeing with the new terms. If it's a drawn out sacking then he's going to get dragged publicly and he won't come out of it looking good, just another failure.

It'll be mutual termination or sacked. Ineos aren't building a world class team to run football operations, only to keep a loser like Ten Hag in charge of the first team

Not enough. Fans want to see that all are wins and goal difference + 67 in those games.

Joking aside, not looking at injury list and var/referees decisions where we could have 12-15 points more is misstake. Nobody should be happy with this year. That doesn’t mean everything is on manager.

Despite the the injuries, I still hate the fact that the team plays with no control whatsoever, I mean we have Rashford, Bruno, Casemiro, Dalot, Varane and Onana, that's more than enough supposed quality to help us dominate plus Garnacho and Mainoo who are excellent, even when Hojlund was around we couldn't control a game hence why we concede too many chances, teams know this and play on it.

Be hilarious for the Hag stans if he ends up jumping before pushed because his ego can’t handle being ignored on transfer strategy.

You've spent god knows how many months banging the "get a better manager" drum and now you're saying "Southgate ain't that bad"?

Are you for real?

Feck no, Southgate is not the main to lead us forward.

International management is completely different to club management.

There isn't situation in which Southgate is anything other than a no. He could be the only man to save the club from the brink of vaporisation and we'd still be better off without.

Makes me laugh when you see someone who strongly defends a mediocre manager like Ten Hag, but is then happy to categorically write off Southgate as not being good enough. I wouldn't want Southgate at United, but how's he any worse than the rubbish Ten Hag is serving up at United?

Actually, how about we promote Steve Mclaren? He won the Dutch league with Twente after all

Exactly… I mean what’s he done at club level to deserve a massive job like ours?

You must have missed the part where I said I’m not a fan and that IF he does come you’d HOPE it’s short term and for the benefit of the atmosphere and standards.

ETH is better than Southgate. Stop tryna kid yourself. Southgate has messed up every chance we’ve Had to win a tournament with his shocking decisions and tactics. Southgate doesn’t win us a trophy last season and finishes 3rd.

Talk about straw man.

You think Ten Hag hasn't been setting standards?

I hate selective stats like this.

Or, the last 4 games we've lost 2 and won 2.
Or the last 20 games, we've won 10, lost 7, and drawn 3.
etc, etc.

The only thing that matters is we're currently 17 points off the PL leader, becasue so far we've lost 11 games out of 28 in the PL, and have scored exactly the same amount of goals as we've conceded, all whilst our general play seem to regress on a weekly basis.

I've stuck with Ten Hag pretty much all the way through, but I think at this point he can have very few complaints if he's shown the door in the summer.

You can't just throw £500m spent as some sort of indictment on ten hag and then say I can't point to shitty negotiation by Murtough

Well I can when the exact amount spent obviously had little to do with my point mate. If we'd only spent £200-300m on the players Ten Hag hand picked my point would the same.

We're 2 years in and the team looks as bad and likely worse now in terms of results and style than it did when Ten Hag took over. Despite the club backing him heavily by letting him hand pick the vast majority of his signings.

I remember us being top of the form table in November too over a period of six games I believe.

By now we should have learnt that performance is a much more reliable indicator of how good the team is.

We could go on runs like this or better with Ole then hit a wall and look useless. It’s the same with ETH, only the football looks even less inspiring.

So you blame the manager for players giving the ball away?

Exactly. That doesn't change the fact they went out of an easy UCL group, get outplayed by most of the teams, have 11 fecking losses in the league and struggle to beat teams like Sheffield United.

If anyone thinks this is sustainable football then they have lost me.

This is piss poor for the club and no amount of "but we have injuries" should cloud what a laughing stock the club has become before and with ETH.

You think Ten Hag hasn't been setting standards?
Outside of arbitrarily making the players run more after a loss or drop people for disagreeing with him, what exactly has he done? He keeps telling the fans we’re massively improved after we’ve just conceded 27 shots on goal against Luton. If raising standards is turning the whole team against you then yeah, he’s done a great job.

But shouldn't you be asking why we weren't able to protect ten hag from himself in making sole decisions in transfers? Ten hag wasn't asking to do that, by the way. Managers generally expect support and structure for scouting alternatives to overlay their own names. By all accounts Ten Hag reserved feck all in that department.

I can only imagine how Liverpool would be if they asked Klopp to do it all, for starters they would have brought Brandt or Pulisic over Salah.

Also you're point about the team looking worse literally happens under every coach. It's a recruitment issue not a management one.
