Would love it if he walked due to lack of backing and broken promises. Joel and Avram got way too comfortable having a yes man like Ole in charge.

Don't even know what to say about this, if it's humour that I've missed I salute the delivery

And what happens when we sign De Jong and one other, two at most? Will you come down from your high horse (or rather come out from under the Glazers' desk) to admit you were wrong and we are not doing nearly enough?

I doubt it, it'll be just like the OGS apologists who disappeared when even Stevie Wonder could see he was useless.

For starters, I feel nothing but contempt for the Glazers. Particularly the trickle-down effect they have presided over which has consistently seen the wrong people, in the wrong positions entrusted with key decisions.

But I was reacting more to the way in which some supporters play their part in whipping up a frenzy by getting worked up over every if, but and maybe.

I am a little disappointed so far that I was expecting ten hag to be the type of manager that can spot a diamond in the rough or take a player with modest profile and propell them to another level but instead it's same old same old that we have seen with past managers of targeting unimaginative obvious high profile players that any football fan could spot as a good player

You’re disappointed that our new manager hasn’t overtaken the job responsibilities of our scouting department?

Really hope he isn't afraid to call out the club for being terribly run if/when it's needed
I apologize in advance if this sounds rude, but which organization do you work for where you are allowed to call out your bosses publicly without consequences?

I see many people making similar comments and lauding Rangnick for his "honesty". All I could think of is this guy's an idiot. You need to have a bit of tact when dealing with your superiors in every role and job. Once you recognize an issue, flagging it publicly is hardly ever the best course of action. I hope Ten Hag isn't that idiotic that he'll go out publicly picking fights with the board.

A few things to mention however are that he has not started managing the current team yet. So it is too early to say he can't propel a modest player within it to another level, perhaps Dalot or Garner for instance. He does have prior form of propelling players to another level such as FDJ, Tadic, De Ligt and Haller to name a few, so I reckon he needs a chance before judgement, based on his past experience. With regards to signings, he is not solely in charge, he can offer suggestions and make a veto but is a part of a committee than the one making the decisions.

As long as he does decent he'll have to power to call them out. They won't sack a manager who does better than the last guy.

Nice wum attempt!

Are you sure that united is a club where a diamond in the rough can be shaped into a masterpiece? With the fans disappointed with the new manager even before he has trained with the team, do you really think fans will let a diamond in the rough grow into a well rounded footballer? Not with the current state we are in. We need footballers who can go into the team and fit in there seamlessly. That cannot happen unless we target someone who has that profile. Unfortunately players who can fit into a new team do not come cheap and easily.

I have never seen anything like this on a football forum. I'm used to players joining the squad at the end of August after the first few games have even been played. Here people start complaining in June!
Hopefully FDJ will come as it will net my club a handsome solidarity contribution.

Is there now a definite reluctance for so-called ‘top players’ from any part of Europe and beyond, to seriously consider joining Man Utd?

Surely ETH knows that pulling De Jong here was always going to be quite a task, irrespective of Barca's financial troubles.

Alot of top talents are likely wary of joining us because of our recent struggles. For some it'll probably be wiser to see how we progress this season before jumping onboard , especially in the case of talents like Timber .

I can't believe Hag would be this naïve. United have a real unflattering reputation at the moment.
Says who?

I think you very much could have complaints with that. 3-5 year rebuilds don't work anymore.

When you consider the context of what we lost due to the club being terribly run and Greenwood being scum you can't say this is a normal window.

The above would be a great window for building on a good Foundation. This team doesn't have that. Not even close.

5+ good additions needed if we want to really ensure we are fighting for top 4.
Probably not realistic without a free or two.

To be fair when United were dominant most of the transfer business was pretty much done and dusted before the transfer window opened. But hey that was the Fergie days. Now it's pretty common place for United to be signing players right upto the deadline.

We will unveil Frenkie de Jong together with the new kit, probably. I know people hate the marketing aspect but it's the bread and butter in this day and age. The money we pour into the transfer market has to come from somewhere.

Is this really true or is it just a case of nostalgia bias? I recall quite a few late deals.

It seems EtH wants both De Jong and Eriksen before moving on to other signings.

Views them as key to how he wants to play. Thoughts?

I'll be happy to be proved a clown in the future if Ten Hag gets everything he wants. I'm worried that my supposedly hysterical post will age well.

Supposedly hysterical? Mate it's the claim that you'd be happy if promises were broken and EtH wasn't backed causing him to walk away that are making people think you're a clown. Yeah, that'd be a brilliant turn of events... Jesus wept

I didn't cry, but this video certainly made me tear up a bit. Maybe because I grew up as a child during the late 90s and noughties and just brings back great memories watching the games with my Dad. Makes me realise that it's been such a long time since I've felt that sort of euphoria of winning the title.

Annoyingly, that video has made all this seem like a scripted film and that Ten Hagg is destined to take us back to the top in dramatic fashion. My expectations are ridiculously high now

Edit: I also like how the video includes a quote from Bryan Cranston from Malcolm in the Middle.

That's the line the papers are taking. I'm not sure I agree. We'll always be able to sign players and there will always be players we miss out on but the way the papers are spinning it, signing for United is a bad career move. Sells papers and gets clicks/

He wants quality on the ball, very smart players that don’t lose the ball all too often.. very smart with the ball. If he wants eriksen as a focal point he may look at Bruno on the left.

DM. Frenkie.
Bruno. Eriksen. Sancho
Ronaldo

Eriksen’s pass accuracy was worse than Bruno’s last season.

I just assumed that it was from Madmen, advertising el al

it's pretty clear he wants guys, especially in midfield, that are comfortable on the ball and comfortable on the ball under pressure

I do wonder if we'll need a bit more physicality and running power in the team with the players we're looking at. My hope is he gets Fred playing very well because he is a player who can win the ball.

Last season was easily the most passive United side i've ever seen regarding fitness, aggression and tackles won/opponents pressed.

Question to those who know ETH’s system quite well: does he prefer traditional out-and-out wingers like an Antonio Valencia? Or would he start a playmaker such as Bruno on the right and left, with the fullbacks providing the width?

Only because of CL. Players are mercenaries, most teams can pay big wages now, the clubs’ brands really don’t matter (look at City) it’s all about money and if the player feels they can win trophies there. If you’re not in the CL it’s unlikely you’re winning your domestic title and you literally can’t win the a big European one.

I don’t think both ways is out of the question… I believe he likes width and his wingers to stay wide but then he’s also played tadic out wide who can be classed as a playmaker and one that is usually central. It’s going to be interesting to see what he does with that, but my guess would be sancho/rashford starting on one side and Antony if we buy him on the other side. I feel like he’s a manager that will mix it up a little though depending on the opponent.

I don't like the sound of that. We should have a gameplan with the intention of dominating teams. Chopping and changing is a big white flag wave.

We should play high as possible and look to dominate teams the way we did in the 90s. People make out like Liverpool invented high pressing but we were masters at it.
