Already started to frustrate him with how we go about doing deals, didn't take long.
I wouldn’t believe everything you read.

ETH is a smart man, and knows how transfers work. We’re in June, not August. He’s asked for players to be in place by pre-season which is 3 weeks away.

He also knows that if we overpay now, he may not get another player he wants.

Exactly this...we're still in the middle of June. We are also dealing with Barce who are just scumbags when it comes to transfers so let's not panic yet.

ETH and Murtogh will be in daily dialogue so until this deal is officially over one way or another, let's just have some faith.

If we don't sign a player this summer because we don't want to be taken for a walk......... we can still hope/believe that our new manager can build a hard working, attractive football team.

We need to stop thinking that transfers are the primary solution to our ailing team. So many of our players have the skills needed to play the way we want.

There are a few players that don't but there is already enough to work with for next year.

We should approach transfers confident in our new coach's ability to work with his existing squad. Any signings are a bonus.

Flailing around desperately in the transfer market has been the main cause of our woes over the past 10 years. From Fellaini to Sanchez to Maguire.
Improving players isn't meant to be a simple fix or Pep would just transform the likes of Bony and Hart into his players. There's a specific mould of players system managers improve. It's not everyone. For a large part it's their signings they are improving. Tactics aren't a replacement for naturally fitting talents.

We also shouldn't even be contemplating non-signings. The solution isn't to de-emphasise transfers just because we were bad at it in the past, the solution is to get better at identifying talents not to stop doing it altogether. If we know what we're doing we should have a solid list of alternatives that fit the profile of De Jong and Timber. That's the point of chasing player profiles over player names and also the point of having a football department that can act beyond manager recommendations. If the club can't pivot from those targets effectively then we haven't improved a damn thing. As little faith as I have in the actors at the club I don't think they are incompetent enough to pack it in because option A didn't work out.

Spot on. This is the exact quote.

Amid the impasse, murmurings have begun that Erik ten Hag is starting to get a little frustrated. He is said to understand United’s budgetary constraints — around £120 million — and knows that he would be able to afford certain additional signings if Barcelona can be convinced to accept the lower offer. But there is value too in getting a player through the door early so he and team-mates can mentally prepare, Ten Hag can plan with certainty and United can move on to further targets.

The first game might be 3 weeks away but the players are back for training a week on Monday and it hasn't stopped over clubs making deals.

Barca have named their price, they're not going to sell de Jong at a loss, it's now going to be a deal that suits them. So we either pay up and finally give ten Hag his top target, or move on.

James Ducker said yesterday in the telegraph that the detailed training ground work won't take place until the second half of the pre season tour when ten Hag has his full squad back.

The media are absolutely rinsing us these days. Between making up stories painting this picture of no one having a clue, to even likes of Gary Neville chucking petrol onto the fire with the same moaning, and too make it worse the fans swinging off every little Twitter tweet from any pretend ITK to just flat out made up gossip,

It's getting draining to be honest.

Been the same all season going back to when the heat was on for Ole, between anything that might have been true their was complete made up balls passed on as facts too, then continued right thru to Rangnick, and then the whole side show of the manager appointment to the amount of bullshit daily and weekly we were hearing was it Hag or Poch or whoever, all too fill clicks as no one actually knew anything.

We are a total free hit at the moment, I don't even blame them when you see how it works so good on the fans themselves. They know their crowd well for attention. Guess we all guilty of it at times, but the impatience at the moment is wild,

Them fanpages don't help either they literally post any media link and folk can't tell difference between fake or maybe ITK info, fake news era is alive and kicking.

Not all players are back that early, the players who played the Nations Cup will be given another week or so, he confirmed this already, so that includes FDJ.

It will be the training camp that ETH will want his signings in place for.

Surely ETH knows that pulling De Jong here was always going to be quite a task, irrespective of Barca's financial troubles.

Alot of top talents are likely wary of joining us because of our recent struggles. For some it'll probably be wiser to see how we progress this season before jumping onboard , especially in the case of talents like Timber .

I can't believe Hag would be this naïve. United have a real unflattering reputation at the moment.

Totally agree with the idea of having a list of players and working down the list.

I'm just saying apart from Bissaka(poor technique), Telles(slower than me) and Maguire(turns like me Dad), I think the current squad has the type of players that will suit his system. I wanna see Hannibal, Garner, Diallo, Pellistri, Tuanzebe and Laird play the cup matches to see if they're good enough.

I'm saying that if we've gone down the lists and haven't gotten anyone we're still capable of having a good season and don't need to panic.

It sounds to me like Barca needs the deal done more than United. If they're not willing just threaten to walk away, they're the ones in financial trouble. Paying more than what they paid for him from Ajax is simply a rip off.

I reckon he does, but if he is frustrated like rumoured, then it might be due to it blocking the advancement of other transfers parallel to De Jong. It does seem to be taking up 95% of all our transfer negotiation energy at the moment.

I agree but I believe, especially in the case of Timber, that the upcoming World Cup is playing a part in their decision-making process.

I wouldn't say he was naïve, he appears to have a lot of self-confidence and I would assume everyone around him was telling him that we are a big risk, but he has rebuilt Ajax twice and he will know that if he can do it at United too, he will be up there with Klopp and Pep as one of the great current managers. He could have stayed at Ajax and played it safe but United is a massive challenge and a different beast altogether. I believe/hope he can improve our reputation.

Surely you know Man Utd is like Disney Land and we can do things that other clubs can’t even dream of in the transfer market....:nervous:

It's definitely a big ask; persuading a player to leave Barcelona to join us. Even during the late 2000s it would've been a hard task, let alone now. But it definitely seems like we have at least persuaded De Jong a little to join us otherwise we would've moved on long ago onto other targets.

The holdup is not persuading him though is it? Reportedly Ten Hag has already done that. United negatioating a fee with Barca is the hold up.

Ed was really horrible, since he said that every club went: Give us the moneeeey! Just like when Joel G. said AM is Pele, he turned into lazy shit. I wish they talk less and work more.
Another example of talk no walk, this one I like, Mo had score to settle....

We can do other things, though. Such as buying Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin to be our two primary CMs, who went together as well as peanut butter and mango chutney.

Oh, I'm saying the same thing. Frank's saying that it's difficult to persuade players to join us whilst I'm just highlighting that if we hadn't already done that with Frenkie then we would've moved on by now.

Fair enough my bad

I dont think we can blame the club . We aren't talking about couple of millions here. 15m is money for a new signing .

Huh? 15m is even less than nothing because it's not even a full year's salary for Pogba.

Yeah except it doesn't work like that. Wage budget and Transfer budget are 2 different things.
You can increase one by reducing the other with the simple adjustment of a slider on Football Manager, so I'm going to assume real life is the same.

Particularly given their strong history of not making an absolute balls of managerial appointments and previous transfer windows.
No idea what previous appointments has to do with the current money available. So I will pass.

First sign of trouble was when he started talking about a squad that finished second and improving them, the second sign was Ragnick leaving. This summer will be a complete cluster feck on the same scale as Moyes' first summer where he aimed to sign Kroos and Bale and we ended up with Fellaini.

New manager about to be let down at the first opportunity to sort out this club.
