Problem is you lot are having to come up with these excuses practically every game. At some stage you just have to admit it's not good enough. If you can't see that it's not good enough then I can't help you, nobody can. The standards are in the gutter, from the club to the fans. Accepting and even excusing this crap is another low point. I'm not saying a 'new low', because I heard all the exact same excuses for the exact same standard of football under Ole.

You shouldn't bother. Standards here have been in the toilet for ages now. The managers are guilty of it too.

Our own manager is excusing our lack of control/disjointed performances because of Shaw/Martinez missing. If our entire style goes to shit because of just 2 players missing, then you wonder how competent the coach truly is.

I imagine it's because when the defence is settled and able to control games, you can have Mount further up as an attacking 8, along side Bruno, pushing the counter press. However, without that control, you end up with this basket ball like game that we've been seeing plenty of.

I may be wrong but I imagine once the defence is back, our style of play will be very different to what we're doing right now.
I struggle to see how you can hang your hopes on us playing better football when martinez and shaw return.

Not just two players
A centre back and left back

With every passing game the inevitable becomes clearer and clearer. Even with wins. Just as it was with the wins towards the end of Ole/Mourinhos reigns.

I have no idea how he’s managed to take us so far backwards from where we were last season. We are such an awful side and the gap is growing all the time. New coaches come to the league every year, new players come every year, and those around you continue to improve.

This crap started in the back half of last season, wasn't just this season.

The difference was that last season our excuse was that we thought... Wait till he gets his type of players.

Now the club has brought his 12 of 'his' players it's actually gotten worse than last season.

I don't blame the manager for the brutal run of injuries, esp to key defenders but a blind man can see that Rashford and Bruno just aren't producing the goods right now and need to be benched. EtHs refusal to do so is infuriating. He gave Hannibal a short run in the team, he performed well and we haven't seen much of him since.

For the first time, I'm starting to have doubts about him.

That worst team was going head to head with Bayern who also barely beat them by one goal. People need to stop pretending like we should have beat them 5:0 or something (even though we had chances to beat them 3, 4:0), they are not that bad.

By worst team I meant Sheffield United btw

This is what makes me think he's a bit of a fraud (that dreaded word). Last season he needed a new GK and it would suddenly all make sense. It didn't. Before that we heard he can't play his full press due to Ronaldo... well, where is it? All I see is a half baked press against poor teams, mainly in goal kicks. I don't see this great 'playing out from the back' with his new GK. I see a wanky idea of having 2 CBs next to Onana on goal kicks, one rolls out to him, Onana goes long, the CBs run to the pitch and we hope we win the ball. Its just really shit, and I'm starting to wonder if he has an idea at all of what he's doing.

People talk about his possession team at Ajax. Well they dominated possession by around 70% even when they were poor the years upto when he took over. He didn't bring that, he inherited it. Unfortunately we're not the clear best in the league like Ajax, this isn't Eredivisie. He actually has to do some coaching and make us better, not just expect it. There's too many good teams in this league with good managers.

But hey ho, maybe he'll take us on a good run in the CL one year to the QF/SF, which is what basically got him the job. Nobody asked why he got eliminated in the group stage other years and then also got beat by other average teams in the Europa. As good as Guardiola and Klopp? He's looking like he's barely top 10 manager in the PL these days.

Being loyal to players who consistently deliver bad performances is ten hags biggest flow. Mctominay, Rashford, bruno, Anthony should all have to work their way into the team from the bench over the next few weeks but Ten hag fears and just continues to play them... game in, game out. Ole had the same exact flaw where he continued to stick with Maguire and others rather than bench them. End result will be the same if ten hag doesnt wake up and smell the coffee

My inclination continues to be that he’s a con artist. He’s even conned the press, who unanimously appear to believe that anything that happens out on the grass is ‘not the manager’s fault’ for some reason.

There's a reason why that is. Well, two reasons, I suspect. Firstly, he's not coached any sort of attacking game plan into the team and relies on moments or the counter attack. Bruno and Rashford are our two players who are most likely to provide something in both those aspects. He can't drop them as we'd look toothless with how he wants us to play.

Secondly, I think he doesn't dare drop them as they're two of the main figures at the club and either they'll get him sacked or the club will be questioning why he can't get a tune out of them and whether somebody else could. So it's also self preservation.

I honestly think that if he were to drop them both then it would be the end of him. I am as frustrated by their performances as anybody, but I think we'd look even more useless without them.

2 players missing does not absolve 'shit on a stick' football in every single game.

we had pretty much everyone available start of season and were poor. Our midfield and attack even at full compliment struggles to pass the ball to construct chances or take control of a game.

its 100% coaching. We scrape wins against the likes of Sheffield Utd, Wolves, Burnley and Forest on the back of a bit of luck and individual inputs. We were lucky to get all 3 points tonight.

Look at the games we’ve played against any teams with a remotely well coached setup and half decent players - turned over every time and this will continue. Even Roy Hodgsons palace turned us over at home having played their B team in the cup.

The injuries narrative is such a bad excuse. Laughable people think Martinez and Shaw being out is the reason we play long ball and cant hold possession. We just don’t look like a coached team. Swapping an injured centre half out = excuse for not being able to pass a football and shipping goals every game. I mean, maybe we will drub City on Sunday because Akanji can’t play

The future with him is bleak, the end of every game looks like the team will sit the bed with his shockingly negative tactics, it's almost laughable how bad we are with him. Can we all agree to never go Dutch again, at least LVG had some sort of a defence

Not saying he should go or deserves to, but if he were to there is basically no one good enough to take over. Even if we were to find someone good enough to take over, I feel like we'd maybe have a good spell and then be back to this position with a year or two.

Shocking signings and an inability to decide how he actually wants to play. His decision to want to try to form a team that plays “the United way” or whatever with quick transitions while also trying to implement his Ajax principles is idiotic. We are stuck with a group of players that don’t really fit together under one style and we are now good at nothing in particular.

Today was the last straw for me if I’m honest. Watching him trot out McT/Bruno/Antony/Rashford etc over and over while we sit in some stagnant shape in possession that hasn’t improved at all was shocking.

Agreed. Clueless faux *********** from what I can see. Concerning that he seems completely oblivious to it too and seems totally convinced that the team is on track, and more often than not, ‘played well’.

No one is accepting anything. But some people have enough common sense to see all the injuries and context around the current situation and are willing to wait when the manager has run of games with actual healthy team. There is no "cult of manager" bullshit, no excuses, I and many are willing to admit it is time to move on from ETH but doing that in current circumstances is silly. You can call everything you don't agree with "excuses" but it wont change the fact that we are missing literally our whole defense, which is one of the most important part in ETH's game.

I like Ten Hag the person but he’s not good enough to manage a top 6 club in England.

sometimes, football is that simple. Get a good manager who signs good players and win games of football in a convincing manner.

It’s so bizarre as last year I found myself agreeing with *almost* everything he said/did for most of the year. And now it’s all gone as is any semblance of team progress.

Please for the love of god have a backup plan. I suspect they'll hold out hope for an Arteta style turnaround and, after a drubbing from one of our rivals, give up.

I will lose my shit if we panic sign Conte after this.

We are absolutely shocking and it hasn’t looked like getting better at any point this year. Players on the verge of downing tools and our general play makes Van Gaal-ball look attractive.

A year and a half on, we should be starting to realize a vision. In this case, each game looks further from the answer. If Erik is genuinely happy with what we’ve been seeing, my mind may have flipped on him. Obviously there are much larger problems at the club, but he’s dangerously close to making himself part of the problem instead of saving us from them.

Not sure how good of a coach he is or can be but I know for damn sure we're not seeing the best of him at the moment.

My opinion at the moment is he's basically looking to survive matchday-to-matchday because he knows regime change is coming and he's not exactly expensive to get rid of given the length of his current contract. He's basically very short-sighted in the way he's building this team and it's a matter of time until it comes crashing down (could be as early as Sunday).

For me, if he is to have a second chance with new money coming in, we need him and the new director of football to sit down and EtH lays out his plan to get us playing well. He then gives the new guy the profile of player(s) he needs and just gets a list from which to pick.

The signings made under him are underwhelming mostly, except for Casemiro, Eriksen and Martinez. Out of those, only Martinez would be classified as his proper signing, the rest were proven in Europe or in the PL. But they're also old.

Exactly it's a completely absurd argument. If your entire style of play and plan is dependent on two particular individual players then your plan and coaching isn't good enough! Plain and simple. This excuse does my head in. Yes you can have key players who you will miss when they aren't there, but not to the extent that you can hold up your hands and say "Oh well nothing I can do here, it has to be shit on a stick football".

It’s to find the right formula. He might eventually find it within a month. Let’s be optimistic now. That’s the best way we can make ourselves not depressed so much at the moment.

Knowing our board we will do something idiotic like that.

I tend to always be in the camp of keeping the manager…or to put it another way, I blame the players before the manager.

But I do think a lot of fans have become disillusioned after the transfer of Mount. That transfer alone has many questioning his decisions.

For a manager who was touted to develop youth players he has been exceptionally poor.

We are playing so badly, gone through a run of poor results but he is unwilling to shake things up and change things. Why not play the kids as a Plan B?

Feckin Hannibal was arguably the man of the match the last time he played and then gets dropped the next 4 games.

Grow a pair, ETH.

Couldn't believe it when I saw the team selection last night. Scott McTominay starting again? Where's Hannibal? We've lined up against both Kobenhavn and Sheffield United with a midfield that couldn't build up play. And why is Rashford starting another game? What happened to accountability? Guy has been awful for weeks now.

That's no way he should be getting any chance under a new regime.

He has shown he is completely out of his depth, totally stubborn with a serious lack of man management skills at this level.

We are playing worse football every week with no signs of improvements and recent wins have mostly come on efforts of players he's been trying to get rid off

If we have a new regime with new owners, Director of Football then we need a new manager too who can actually make the best of that.

Not sure about that.

I don't see him getting sacked before the end of the season because most new managers worth their salt want a full summer.

I envision a long goodbye LvG-style, with us finishing 6-8.

It does feel he’s at least split the dressing room which is usually the beginning of the end here. Once again we seem too often like we are just going through the motions for too long in games whereas we didn’t really look like that when we had even less quality and a happier squad. I obviously want to see what we are like with a fully fit team that has gelled as we haven’t seen that yet. I badly want ETH to be the one to guide us back to the top. I’ve no affinity with most of our players these days. Our best players are two older lads Madrid don’t need anymore. He’s had the one of the hardest jobs in the league with the off the field and ownership stuff. if he can turn it all around he’ll have done very well as it’s not like those problems were of his making or design

This place can't even join late UCL win. In reality it should've been 3-0 or 3-1 before 70minutes mark had players finished their easy chances but sure let blame manager because that what United supporters do
If players in both teams finished their chances then judging by xG we would have been lucky to get away with a draw, let alone a win.

I would take that if we actually integrate youngsters in the team likes of Mainoo, Mejbri , Gore , Amad to see if they are ready to contribute or not who knows they might surprise us .

Atleast then season wouldn't be total waste I can't bear the sight of Mctominay, Bruno , Casemiro and the gang stinking up the place any longer .

I think he's a good manager but we have to somehow up the intensity during matches. Make the players accountable, drop Rashford if he's playing like shit, same goes with Bruno. Antony is a waste of space and he plays every game. He has to try and change stuff.
