Awful performance good result. Still waiting for some foundation in the displays to see a turn around, but the games over December through January require this team to pick up wins immediately so it's definitely a positive on that front.

The results in the run of fixtures up to Christmas are going to be brutal the way we're playing.

tactics shocking

needs to play 4-2-3-1 so we can be more solid defensively, better in possession, get Bruno as a true 10 and much more effective and improve us on break.

not sure why we cant go to hybrid 4-1-4-1 in some games and ask one of the double pivot to be involved in a high press.

As we saw again tonight we were awful until he changed it. No clue why he takes off Amrabat

couldn’t agree more

I really am struggling to keep the faith with him. I’m just not seeing anything to suggest he’s going to get it right.

I like the guy but let’s be honest, his tactics are awful, hIs signings are awful, his football is awful. What are we holding onto to suggest he’ll eventually get it right?

100% said this a few months ago. The double pivot midfield is what will hold together the teams performances and possibly even the managers future tenure. The new system needs to be scrapped, you can't experiment at the highest level.

The game on Sunday is a water shed moment for ETH. If we get hammered then i really think he is toast, if we can get a positive result or a solid draw then it could be a galvanising moment.

Its never dull with us
We almost never draw. So, the result will be binary. Hard to be optimistic really.

This thread is hopeless.
We should have been 3-0 up EASILY and still somehow the manager is to blame. When our players failed to score a bunch of 1 vs 1 and 3 vs 1 chances.
After a bad first half he made the changes that we needed and we 1000% deserved to win, creating a lot in the process.

Honestly, I wont bother to post anymore, will just go and enjoy the win. Have fun complaining and hating. :D

Are you not interested in how we are playing?

We are consistently, extremely poor. If you wish to ignore that, good luck to you. I have seen this all before, limitations with our manager's. Count the number of Premiership teams who are managed, better than what we are.. Teams are outperforming us, regularly. This is an ETH team, poorly constructed, uninspired and clearly imbalanced. That's obvious.

Basically this.

His tactics are so bad and our players are all over the place, especially Bruno who was basically playing left back as we moved forward in the first half today. Play him as a 10! ETH needs to figure it out or he’ll be out shortly. People like to unload on our players but he’s the damn manager and seems to have no clue at times.

We can’t attack. We can’t defend. We can’t control games. We play poorly. We don’t get the results we need.

His time here should be up. Neither his tactics or signings are working.
3 wins in a row says different to the board

Listening to his post match interview with TNT was interesting. Scholes questioned him about struggling to find the balance in midfield, basically what everyone on here had been saying. ETH dismissed the question and blamed the struggles for game control on the defence. Apparently the routines at the back hasn't been there due to injuries and that's why we've struggled in the middle of the park.

Pretty sure the choice defenders played in the first game of the season against Wolves, where we were cut through time and again. However, I do think there's something to his claim. Martinez and Shaw are our two best ball-playing defenders and I think missing both makes a difference. I also think it is why he's not playing Mount.

All that said, I'm still very disappointed in his failure to adapt the team to deal with the above mentioned issues. We should be able to pick eleven players and dominant some of the teams we've struggled against.

This place can't even join late UCL win. In reality it should've been 3-0 or 3-1 before 70minutes mark had players finished their easy chances but sure let blame manager because that what United supporters do
But it wasn’t

yet again

we were lucky

against Copenhagen at home

The sooner Jim comes in and puts a halt to managers picking who they want the better.

The board aren't stupid, they know full well the team is shit. But they're business minded and the bottom line is the manager will stay until its looking likely we'll miss out on the CL cash cow

Im inclined to agree but you will get people on here thinking this is an overreaction.

What concerns me most is the aimless way we play our game. We look like a team who aren’t coached to play a certain way. This has nothing to do with injuries too.

And replace him with...?

He's having that same streak of luck that came Ole's way when he was on the verge of the sack for the first time. The performances are just shocking though and the results will reflect that eventually.

Well on the flip side he spotted we were shit and made a half time sub. It’s a start. Luckily for him it worked because Copenhagen are turd. Needs to start Mount Sunday instead of Antony

It is the main reason why we don't have control over the game, especially in terms of possession.

That being said I do agree with your second point as it's no excuse to being so open in the middle. I think he's tried to adapt by playing Mctominay in midfield to try and bring that balance but it's difficult as we don't really have a defensive 8 that can drop in to collect the ball. I think we'll go with a midfield 3 of Casemiro-Amrabat-Bruno against City, or Bruno will be pushed out wide with Eriksen replacing him.

That was his explanation for dropping Eriksen. I'm struggling to see why we'd drop Mount because Shaw and Martinez are injured.

Not that I can see why we'd drop Eriksen either for that reason.

I don’t really hate ETH but we have played the worst team in the league & a Danish team over 4 days and basically had zero control in either game . Tonight at home we had 5 shots on target with an xg of 1.66 and needed a late penalty save so not sure there’s much to celebrate.
That worst team was going head to head with Bayern who also barely beat them by one goal. People need to stop pretending like we should have beat them 5:0 or something (even though we had chances to beat them 3, 4:0), they are not that bad.

Never mind Onana or Harry, Ten Hag has to find his confidence again, be bolder and more ruthless in his selections and his ambitions, raise the bar on his expectations here. Be the take no shit assassin I thought he was up till we won the League Cup. He bombs out of here, he's never getting another elite club I don't think. No guts no glory time.

Yeah I'm losing hope for him the more we go on. Even when we get results the patterns of play aren't remotely there. This whole coaching staff looks inept when you compare with other coaches who can come in and get their team playing how they want regardless of who is out there. Yeah the quality might drop but you still see how they want to play. We look like strangers out there

I have no idea how he’s managed to take us so far backwards from where we were last season. We are such an awful side and the gap is growing all the time. New coaches come to the league every year, new players come every year, and those around you continue to improve.

Happy with the win but my god we are awful. Zero control and zero style of play. This is not good.

The football he has us playing is fecking dreadful.

I can’t see him surviving the season.

I imagine it's because when the defence is settled and able to control games, you can have Mount further up as an attacking 8, along side Bruno, pushing the counter press. However, without that control, you end up with this basket ball like game that we've been seeing plenty of.

I may be wrong but I imagine once the defence is back, our style of play will be very different to what we're doing right now.

Problem is you lot are having to come up with these excuses practically every game. At some stage you just have to admit it's not good enough. If you can't see that it's not good enough then I can't help you, nobody can. The standards are in the gutter, from the club to the fans. Accepting and even excusing this crap is another low point. I'm not saying a 'new low', because I heard all the exact same excuses for the exact same standard of football under Ole.

Múltiple managers now refusing to drop underperforming players, something is not right here.

That just opens up another can of worms, which most of us called in the summer when it became apparent he wanted to play like that. Wolves showed us up with practically our first choice team, playing that way. It won't be the answer to anything.

Exactly this. Said it before, but it's only a matter of time before he's sacked. This is like Oles final season with us

Worried he can’t see the path he has chosen is completely wrong
Either he changes the style of play or we end up changing him after Christmas

Results and performances are two very different things, and because tonight's performance was the same dross that's been served up all season it's not that surprising that the manager is being criticized.

I'm very happy about the result, but I'm so tired of seeing us play like 11 strangers that just happened to be wearing the same shirt.
