De Zerbi has proven his pedigree in the PL so unless ETH turn things around, which I don't believe, we should target him. Too early to sack anyone now, but we have started the season poorly. Stay away from arrogant Dutch coaches (apparently the system worked today). Unless ETH can get his CM to work he will be gone by Christmas.
He has proven pedigree, but without the club having the same structure, a good one, then he will fail. He is not dealing with advertising's dreamboys at Brighton.

Would seem a bit to me like blaming a new driver for a 2nd hand car falling apart.

There are so many broken pieces to this squad and to the football club as a whole that I’ve been convinced that it doesn’t matter who the manager is.

In this case, a car sold by a totally crooked car salesman.

Out of all the big teams, it’s fair to say as things currently stand we look like the most likely to implode…..but we are still only in September to be fair.
Hold on a second there, are you saying we could play worse then we currently are? We have played 5 games so far, won 2 games, first one against Wolves, we were bullied all game and it felt like a minor miracle to pick up all 3 points. Second win against Forest we needed a heroic comeback. At home, against Forest.

Liking the manager in general and accepting that he is doing bad job are two different things.
Manager should be rated by results. And nothing else.

I like Ole and I like ETH. But, for me, Ole was terrible, and ETH was pretty decent last season. This season, there are very worrying signs for ETH so let's just see how it plays out.

My issue is with the fan boys who paint Jose and Ole's tenures in a positive light and are fecking relentless about it, too.

We’ve imploded mate. Half the squad are injured, some are refusing to train and some are suspended for abuse cases. The rest of the squad can’t be arsed to track runners.

We’ve won what? 2 games?

Start of the end for him today. Getting beaten by Brighton is no biggie in the current climate, but getting tactically outclassed for 70% of a game at home, by a side that cost the same as Sancho’s dental work is not acceptable.
He has done little to give us hope since the League cup final and I don’t see us getting in the top 8 this season.
In game management is a bad as we’ve had for some time. Very predictable.
Up to him to show he can get us to respond and fast. If he can't muster up a performance against Bayern, then I dunno, I don't see it working out ultimately.

Performances since the cup final (February) have been poor. We lose against anyone half decent away from home. This season we've been very underwhelming at home too. It's hard to pinpoint anything tactically that we are good at. Transfers have been questionable plus there is a lot of off-field nonsense going on.

Would you sack or keep?

 Had to be you.

De Zerbi has but but ETH hasn't?

Only if the club already has a structure that forces players on the managers. That is not the case though, ETH had the opportunity to shape the team the way he likes, just like the next manager will be given at least 200m a year to play with.

The way I look at it is to look at Arteta. Took him until his 3rd full season, last season to improve Arsenal. He finished 8th in his first half season, 8th second season, 5th third season.
Fergie even took 4 seasons to win a trophy, FA cup, and he finished 11th and 13th in those first four seasons. He also had to clear out a lot of players.
Unless we are losing badly fairly regularly, when he has his injured players back, then he should be given the time.
We have sacked all the managers fairly quickly and rightly so, so far, but it hasnt made us any better long term. At least TH is trying from this season to bring in players that want to play for Utd and not for the paycheck.
This and the Arsenal one is a potent example for the situation we are in. We also need to forget about the title for a bit, we are nowhere near and we we won't be anytime soon its just bring us unnecessary pressure when we fail.

He has made a few mistakes but who hasn't however our challenge is that we have no depth to speak of to cover for any player who doesn't pull his weight. Take today, for example, Hoijlund was clearly tired but bringing on Martial effectively killed us as a threat down the centre.

We also need him to hold all the players accountable regardless of their status but I understand that it could be difficult looking at the injuries we have. Rashford should have been hauled off for killing our attacks through shit decision making, Casemiro should sit on the bench once Amrabat is back and Bruno should lose his place to Mount when he comes back. The failure by that trio to do the basics of their positions is costing us and the manager needs to throw the book at them because cuddling them is just going to get him the sack.

Going forward players who can't do the basics required at this level need shifting and the biggest culprits are the fan favorites. ETH needs to show some balls and make the big decisions.

I honestly would wait until end of season and try to get Xabi Alonso to sign early for next season.
Alonso is just the whole package. Doing wonders at Leverkusen, is just such a natural leader and has the respect of many players just for who he was and is.
I think he will become the next big thing and if you miss him in the next 12 months he will end up at Real or a similar sized club you dont get him off easily if at all.

I am not blaming the manager here, shit window and loans. Nothing will change with these owners. The bright days of Utd being sold have now turned sour. He has had a lot to deal with injuries and the club being in the shits. Hope we stick this out and he is given a chance under new owners.

I hope he sticks this out too, he has just had too much to deal with at United in such a short space of time, and has been deceived like the rest of us over the takever.

If this continues I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he walked away.

We are the slayer of too many good managers and players for this to not be been casued by other factors going on at the club.

I’d give him this season and next as long as we are top 7. However he really needs new owners to be in place by the end of this season and needs them to find a DOF to work with him.

Not agreeing with a lot the comments saying EtH is fraud. Clearly the man is not.

Although there are questions that need to be answered and he does have to start taking responsibility for results. Not competing at the highest level is where the glazers / Arnold etc come in.

He spent £45m on a keeper. A great keeper that no doubt Arsenal, City, Liverpool would sign if they needed a keeper but would any of those teams sign that keeper when the rest of the team isn’t suited to him? I’d argue playmaking keepers are the last part of the puzzle. They fit into a playmaking, pressing team. They don’t turn a slow, uncreating team that can barely keep possession into a top footballing team.

We have injuries. Maybe the return to full form of Casemiro, plus Mount and Amrabat will justify signing Onana during the summer. But right now every good pass he makes the ball gets lost within 2-3 passes.

Rashford… where is the coaching? He is reverting back to the Rashford of 2 years ago. Running too much with the ball and turning hood positions into wasted opportunities. hooting when he should be passing/crossing it low etc.

Today isn’t the best day to form a balanced opinion about such a long term decision but I personally is behind our manager 100%. After this season’s last game is the time to evaluate if he’s still our future.

Firstly regarding todays result. In a toxic working environment no manager survive long term. In EtH last press conference before the game the majority of questions was non football relative. Sancho. Antony. Greenwood. Maguire. Give the man some slack because with so much internal havoc nobody can create magic.

We can’t keep sacking managers. The club needs to get behind one for once and show the players that either you fix your shit or you’re shown the door. Sacking another manager just undermines the whole thing.

Give him time and he’ll sort this bunch of twats out. We all know how fecked our club is - why did anyone think sorting that out wouldn’t take time? People say things like “oh I know it’ll take time” but then lose their shit anyway. Part of saying that means actually giving him time to fix it.

We absolutely can, but we need a real structure in place first.

Bring Ole back. At least he was one of us, he understood what United were about.
Hahaha haha. Has to be an opposition fan. One good thing about that would be the return of the Ole's at the Wheel song. Actually...no.

I highly highly doubt ETH could have achieve what de Zerbi has at Brighton. ETH cannot blame others or hide behind the Glazers. He has spent 400m and were made to look like a clown today. No structure to our play after going one nil down.

You find a system and a selection of players that work. Rashford provides enough on the ball to be worth his spot, and him having a shit work rate alone isn't the cause of this. Have your squad. Punt out the ones you don't want. There's only so many excuses that can be made. He did well last year. But he has a CF now and a GK now which were 2 gaping holes. There is no excuse to go backwards. There aren't excuses to be completely out coached. Today had 0 to do with individuals. Today was all about the system. There were massive spaces for McTominay and Eriksen to cover all day, and they struggled with it all day. How Ten Hag saw that game and didn't see what was so painfully obvious to me is what is concerning to me. It was the most basic of adjustments from Brighton and they eases to a dominant victory.

Bolded the problem. Our midfield is still after all these years, shite. We expect Eriksen and McTominay to cover anything, two of the most limited players in the league for various reasons.

Mount was a massive mistake I could see costing Ten Hag his job.

Today is the first time I'm questioning him. That system was stupid to start with. We all know how attacking Brighton's fullbacks are and he decided to give them all the time in the world playing without wingers and a diamond. Self sabotage at its finest. You'd rather play McT who has never shown he's good enough to play central midfield for United than giving youth a chance.

And to compound the problem, refuses to make any changes to the system until after the match is already lost and also brings on Martial when we are chasing a game.

What was up with playing Bruno literally everywhere by the way? After the substitutions I thought he was playing defensive mid but then I see him popping up as central defender? The feck we were trying to do? And why is Martinez getting substituted every game this season? Collection of bad decisions that game.

I was a little apprehensive of this game beforehand because of all our injuries and off the field issues but this performance casts some serious doubts over ETH for me. Brighton were very comfortable all game.

Same and it is probably for many others as well. This was a shocking performance all around.

Course you keep him. You let him get his team on the pitch which for various reasons we haven't yet.

I mean he clearly deserves more than 5 games, we're an absolute mess of a club that cant' be easy to manage but there are some concerning signs. Hope he can turn it around though.

Anyway, he'll be sacked by Christmas. I think he's on his way to lose the dressing room. It didn't happen yet but we're very close. The players will turn on him pretty soon by the way it's going.

I expect a caretaker comes January.

The problems with this roster are so big that he’s not had the time or money necessary to fix it. And that time part is amplified by the fact that this club seems to be mired in molasses any time they have to negotiate the purchase of a player.

Ten Hag doesn't deserve to be that one. He's a terrible coach.

Brighton has a good owner, who knows he does not know which players to buy so have employed good DOF's. Our owners employ people who do not have a clue how to negotiate contracts, sales, purchases. No DOF so the managers have total power but not necessarily the knowledge of who they should buy, so more often than not has gone with people he knows and our negotiating team have allowed themselves to be ripped off. That is all down to the owners who also have feck all knowledge of Association Football.

Are there any clubs that have had the sequence of problems to deal with that Utd have?

I'll keep the faith for now, though some of his in game decisions are beginning to grate.
