Eric Bailly | BBC say signing is imminent

He looks so fast. I trust Mourinho to see something in him and bring the best out of him.

Pretty much this. He's obviously had his eyes on him for a while. Wonder how many more under the radar types he's been researching during his time off .

Reminds me of me... he will need to work on his ball retention to be a success though.

Seems reading about him, he isn't that great in the air ?

We do need a dominant aerial defender.

People keep saying they love transfers like this that go under the radar with no paper talk but I must be missing something? At the minute all this is, is paper talk, if you count sky sports news, which I think you should based on their recent history as that kind of thing then all this is is SSN and the papers reporting ti, there is nothing concrete from either club.

From FourFourTwo
Strengths
Bailly is strong, quick and good in the air, which makes him perfectly equipped for the demands of the Premier League. He is adept at using his body to shield the ball away from danger, and his speed ensures he can make powerful recovery tackles when required.

His positioning is solid and he averages 2.4 interceptions per game, while he’s also demonstrated a degree of versatility by performing well at right-back and left-back this term.

He’s not quite the accurate passer you might expect a player Pep Guardiola has designs on to be, although his on-the-ball attributes are improving with every game and his relative inexperience means he can be moulded by any future manager with particular stylistic beliefs.
Weaknesses
Bailly is still extremely raw and prone to making errors due to his limited top-flight experience. He lacks discipline at times, which has seen him receive 11 cautions in all competitions this season, and his decision-making is not always as consistent as his manager would like.

He’ll certainly need to improve his passing out from the back, too, with Bailly generally looking to play a simple ball to his centre-back partner.

The learning curve is steep, but Bailly has the raw ingredients to improve with the right guidance.

Wary of getting too attached to him now with the chat of others also negotiating.

Just because we're (apparently) signing Bailly doesn't mean the rumours about Manolas and Stones are groundless, to be fair. They've come from usually reliable sources such as Di Marzio, Guardian etc. and it's possible Mourinho wants to sign more than one centre-back this summer, especially if he wants to get rid of Blind.

I've been keeping tabs on this guy for at least 10 minutes now on YouTube and I can confirm he's the real deal.

Came across him when playing a save with Villareal on fifa, he immediately stood out as the team's best defender which was weird because I tought Musacchio was the big man at the back and I had never heard of this guy.

Haven't seen him play any real games but heard about people that watched the Villareal games he has been their standout guy at the back this season.

Very interesting that we are about to sign him. He is clearly very talented and I trust Mourinho to smooth out his rough edges, he has got a good eye for defensive talent so I'am all for it. €40m is steep but it is the price we would have to pay for any decent CB these days and I prefer to pay it for an exciting 20 year old that has some progression margin.

Is there ever? I don't think I've seen a transfer where United would come out and say 'Yes, we are after this player' before completing the deal.

You are right, lets sign Franco Baresi instead, or Jaap Stam. You may get your wish and he goes to a CL club.
Who the hell was Vidic before we signed him? Who the hell was Martial?
presume that you were a Martial expert?
Don't like his name either.
Comments like this I really don't get.
Look at his stats and videos and you will figure out all what I meant. We need someone better particularly in this area.

Oh wow, now that you're impressed with him on FIFA I really want him.

Yea I think what people mean is they love unexpected transfers which currently means the story isn't in the media already months before it really happens.

In a lot of clips he seems to be playing at right back.

Jose eyes his next Ivanovic?

To be fair if Jose is running the rule on a defender I think it's probably safe to trust his judgement. He's the best manager in the world at building solid defences.
Yeah that thought occured to me too.

So from his stats and some videos, you already know how good he is? Who do you suggest we buy?

Not saying you have to trust a game, just saying it is how I first came across him.

Also heard he was one of Villareals best players this season. If Mourinho thinks he is the right guy, I'd trust him on this one.

He wants us to go for unattainable targets like Varane and Marquinhos. Then he can have a go at Woodward for going after big names.

That's fair enough, but there is no way to tell how long this deal has been going on and how long it will drag on before his future is sorted, i'm surprised the story has got so much interest considering there is others in for him and we haven't heard of him. I don't really get excited unless the BBC states it is happening as everyone else is a few tiers below.

Why assuming while you can simply ask?
Anyways IMO Manolas is a better option or Eric Laport. I'm not a big fan of signing big names in the sake of it.

Reckon we get 2 defenders mate

I must admit that I still have Stones as my first choice. He will definitely be class, and he has had several outstanding games this season
that has confirmed his potential in addition to the poor games in the second half of the season. Fans have been way too hasty in turning on him in my opinion, he is as good a prospect as any young centre half out there. In this era of over analysis there is no patience at all.

If we do sign him I feel more confident in him being successful then signings that lvg or moyes made... mou knows how to spot a good defender for his system so I would have faith in him

Moyes basically signed nobody anyway.

For 40m I would have thought I'd at least have heard his name mentioned on here before. Seems to be lots of references to being good in FIFA and Championship Manager which worries me truth be told.

I did notice him during the Liverpool match in Spain, he seemed comfortable in that game as Liverpool didn't play with any strikers. He reminded me of a slightly smaller Mangala, similar strengths and athleticism.

40 million euros lad and not all upfront, its a big difference really.

I'm the same, hope we never sign an African international. Frankly, I find the AFCON being in the middle of the season absurd and why is it every two years?

Its always been that way and its older than the Euros. I guess the Africans should bow down to Europe again.

I don't mind the money, just that not one person on here even suggested he was the right centre back for us, and I've seen lots of names mentioned..that's what worries me mostly.
