Brook playing that scoop was a poor decision. Varun has been the main threat throughout this series, they had 5 from the first 2 balls of his last over and the required rate was only just over 9 at that point. Take the singles and see him out. Carse coming out swinging after that not a great move either.

I think in this case it's a problem with the rule. On the bench, the only pacers we had were Rana and Shami.
They should just scrap the rule. Other injuries don't get a sub. Don't see why this should - let the medical staff decide and if in doubt, play with 10.
EDIT: ACtually I am wrong. They had Ramandeep on the bench who apparently can bowl a bit
The rule was brought in with a good intention but of course it gets into difficult areas with the like for like section. I understand that like for like is difficult to define for all rounders but Shivam Dube barely ever bowls against decent teams. He played 8 matches in the t20 wc last year and bowled 1 over,to allow a fast bowler who played a test in Australia as a specialist bowler & was also one of the best bowlers in the IPL is absolutely crazy and will definitely end with concussion subs being disallowed
You don’t need to play with 10, the better option is just to make it so the sub can’t bowl at all, like we have for other injuries.
I understand why they’ve done it this way. They want teams to be honest around concussions and not force players at risk to continue playing, but it was poorly implemented in this game.

England chose to bowl first here in the ODI wc and got beaten up badly. This team is obsessed with chasing even though they are not good at it.
It was probably a suspected concussion and the medical staff needed time to assess him further to ensure that he wasn't actually having any red flag signs of concussion or brain damage. After examining him, they probably felt he didn't have any of those and hence was fit to play. I don't see the problem with that.
Him not playing on Friday or him playing today is not the issue, it's the substitution.

Thats what people kept saying about KL, thats how we ended up with a guy playing 50 tests as a pure batsman with an average of 33. Pant is going the same way in t20's, i get with the marketing push, the selectors don't have the balls to drop him for good but surely there has to be a end date to this experiment, the man has played 76 t20i's with an average of 26 and strike rate of 125, if he can't hack the format in 70 games, i don't think he ever will.
Actually Pant is very similar to Brook in that their red ball performances kind of get them white ball hype but they struggle in the white ball format.
England cricket has come a full circle, the test team is not great but I enjoy watching them but the white ball team is not enjoyable at all now. They are getting worse by the minute
