English cricket thread

Unfortunately there is a lack of accountability from top to bottom which is kind of showing up in the performances as well. I love sky commentators but they are too chummy with Key and so tough questions are not being asked. Same thing is happening with Baz now where there is very little scrutiny of the decisions being made.

Just for example in India they had a dead rubber after losing the ODI series 2-0 but they played the first team. Even Mark Wood for some inexplicable reason played the 3rd game while Rehan carried the drinks. In the t20 series before that again the last game was a dead rubber in which both Joff & wood played while Saqib who had come in for the 4th game & taken 3 wickets was put on the bench. Rehan once again carried drinks all through. Then in the dead rubber against South Africa here they once again kept Banton & Rehan on the bench whilst letting livingstone slog with no care in the 20th over.

Without accountability for decisions there can never be a culture of winning

Yep you are right, the squad needs a refresh going forward.

Seems clear from that Key interview that their ideal move would be Stokes captaining the ODI side as well, then maybe Brook for T20.

I wouldn't be against that. He can't just exclusively play test cricket so adding ODIs to his schedule rather than extra county/franchise stuff makes sense. Doesn't have to play every series either, the 3 games in Ireland at the end of September for example would be an opportunity to give someone else leadership experience.

Wood out until the end of July after knee surgery so is likely to miss all tests this summer.

Madness to keep him out there against Afghanistan when he clearly had an issue.

Unfortunate but time to move on. He'll be turning 36 during the next Ashes and his body is clearly shot to pieces at this point. Unfortunate but it is what it is.

Bigger issue, England's bowling options right now must be at their lowest point in decades. Really poor.

Olly Stone ruled out for most of the season with a knee issue.

I suppose getting all the quick bowlers injured now is one way of ensuring they're available and fresh for the Ashes! Could also open the door for Dan Worrall who becomes eligible this summer.
