English cricket thread

glenn mcgrath turning in his grave that, that’s not out.

Australia are just an insanely lucky cricket team. That has probably never happened to stokes before

Says the guy who supports the team that won the world cup of one of the least likely events on a cricket field.

Feels a bit strange that they're going to end up winning 3-1 despite not being great throughout the series, but only drew 2-2 last time when they were completely dominant. I guess it just shows how a few small things can make such a big difference.

Because it calls you out clearly as a hypocrite when you spout BS. Aussies are assholes and very good, not especially lucky.

How is it bullshit. No one in their right minds would argue that England didn’t get lucky in that final. Australia got away with a ridiculous draw in the last test after being pummelled thanks to the rain and then this happens which is exactly what happened with Gibbs

That was poor from stokes more than aussie being lucky. Last test yes they were lucky. But then England were lucky it rained yesterday when it rained.

I’m looking at the radar real time and it’s going to poor down intensively for 2 hours or so south of the river.
I was using the met office radar. Definitely says we’re due a bit now, but not 2 hours worth.

Not sure you've worded that correctly. Annoyingly, they've been the best team in cricket for the majority of my cricket watching lifetime/the last 3 decades or so - no luck needed.

You can be both. It’s not mutually exclusive. England were the best team in ODI for 4 years and then had a lot of luck in the World Cup final

Yeah but after it rains for 30 minutes, it'll take them an hour to schedule a pitch inspection, then another 30 minutes to get back on....

If the ''Spirit of Cricket'' means so much to England, surely Stokes wouldn't review a not out call for a catch he clearly dropped.

Can be both, sure, hence i argued you could probably have worded it better. Everyone in sport is kinda lucky. Anyway, semantics.
Exactly. Fans just get butthurt when their team are on a losing end.

Spirit of Cricket only applies when it's against England. Come on, you know that.

Yeah it was an oddly worded post, moreso when you consider Australia's dominance in the sport over the past 3 decades or so. Especially cricket, everyone's received the rub of the green, or the rain or something favourable!

Now one thing i can say is that we (South Africa!) have been tremendously unlucky

:(

Congrats Australia on winning the Ashes. It's been a brilliant series slightly dulled by disappointing ending of the last 2.

According to the Aussies that Stokes catch should have stood, so I guess I can see why he went to review. But he definitely messed up

One thing that is for certain - the Ashes need to be in May/June in this country from now on.

July is shit.

Some teams and individuals definitely have more luck than others. The idea that it all equals out in the end is frankly ridiculous, sport is often unfair just like life.

This was both poor from Stokes and lucky for Australia. Them being a better team overall doesn't change the fact that they've been very fortunate in this series. There was the Smith catch on Root, England being without Wood, Moeen, Archer, Leach and Pope for much or all of the series (despite all the focus on Australia's one injury), the Bairstow runout, the Smith runout and now this.

To use a football analogy Australia are like the Real Madrid of Test cricket in terms of success and having truly great players mixed with the absolutely infuriating out of the ordinary luck of Klopp's Liverpool.

They have lost 4/5 tosses. Their biggest luck by far was the rain in the last test.

Jeez I know more about cricket than you can ever hope to know so please stop with the silly stuff
Now that's the funniest thing I ever heard, you know nothing about me or what I know about cricket, which BTW is considerable since I played the game for more than 30 years
