English cricket thread

That's been coming. Woakes was all over Warner in that over, and also looks dangerous against Khawaja.

I'm not sure why Australia started the day as favourites, I much more fancy England to get 10 wickets than Australia to get the runs (if the match plays out to a finish and weather doesn't ruin it).

Two terrible reviews back to back. Do you think Khawaja gets stick in the dressing room for wasting reviews?

It was close at best. I also think the draw is a lot higher than the 9% they're giving it as at the moment. Australia aren't going to look to score quickly and any interruption makes the total beyond that way of playing.

Because yesterday they looked totally untroubled and they bat pretty deep, plus our bowlers looked like they were clinging on and all struggling with injury or fatigue. But great response so far this morning combined with conditions doing a lot more. Hopefully a great last day!

The difference between north and south (if you class Trent Bridge as north even though it's in the Midlands, and hasn't had a Test this year anyway) is staggering.

But it's a cultural thing, I've been lucky enough to go to each Test ground a few times and the one thing I've always noticed about the London grounds is the lack of seemingly proper cricket fans who want to go and cheer the team on, and have a beer with their mates.

There's much more corporate hospitality and posh stockbrokers.

At the 2019 Lord's Test I sat in front of a group of 4 or 5 blokes who spent the entire day talking business, very loudly in their stripy work shirts before heading off an hour before close of play.

You're never going to generate an atmosphere with people like that in crowd - and not all are like that but it only takes a few.

Up north it's much more working class and people just want to go and get drunk, and get noisier as the day goes on.
This is made up nonsense.

Woakes has been very good. Again - you wonder what would have happened if he was selected for Edgbaston and Lords.

Lots of swing and movement this morning - great bowling conditions.

I think the ball change has more to do it with than the conditions. It is almost akin to a semi new ball now. Oz need to see out the next 10 overs without losing another wicket.

Going along very nicely here. Marnus tried to score at more than a SR of 15 and was just too much for him.

England at 77% on winviz which means only 1 thing: give it 2 hours and it will be 50/50 again.

God could you imagine the tension if the rain hadn't fecked us at Old Trafford..
Well to be fair Rain fecked Australia in this match. Had it not rained yesterday Aussie openers could have continued to score and taken the game away from england.

I feel in all honesty 2-2 seems a fair result, with the hope england win this.

Now now - rain against us = shit, rain for us = unfortunate circumstances.

Helps when you are given a brand new ball as replacement to one used for 40 overs

So much swing today.
I wonder why

Bit of a stretch to compare going off yesterday to losing 5 sessions in the last test with only one team able to win it.
But it did work in England's favour. Even england players would admit it with the way Aussie Openers were batting.

It's not a stretch at all. Same thing happened to the Aussies in the 3rd test.

You have to feel for the Aussies. Strolling towards a rare series win yesterday only for the rain and a crazy ball change to feck them up.

Did it help England more than Australia? Probably. Didn't stop most of this thread thinking Aussies would do it.

Last test the weather was a complete result changer.

Anyway enough on the last test. Managing to get a bit of WiFi on my train to check the scores with some regularity here.

an embarrassing amount of moaning. i really hope there’s some kind of benefit concert for them afterwards and all the counselling they’ll need.

The selection of balls was not great, very weird selection by whoever chose them. There was about 6 new balls in the selection box for some reason and this was one of the only aged ones.

Its impossible to tell whether the swing has come from the ball or the conditions though as the ball was changed after the rain. As the commentators have said it's probably a combination of both considering it's still moving as it's getting older today.

The conditions matter ofcourse but that ball is behaving as a new ball should under such conditions not as a 40 over old ball would under these conditions.

Oh. I’m confused because I thought it was only England fans that do the whinging.
