English cricket thread

Still could have bowled atleast 2-3 overs out of 25, especially he's been England's best bowler imo.

Yeh weird he didn't get a short burst.

Lunch then, I'm not sure how much more cricket we will get today.

England bowled fairly well for the final 30 mins - first 30 was pretty poor.

Looks very difficult to score on this dying deck.

Yep for the first time in the innings England will be a bit nervous now.

Balls faced

With their new attitude to test cricket, naturally the attention is on England's batting. But that's only 50% of the game, and England's bowling prospects moving forward are seriously alarming.

Every forecast has it raining now and for the rest of the day - not a bad thing for england at the minute, funny how these things swing...

Definitely agree. England need to find some bowling progidies quickly or it's going to be a big problem going forward.

I think that's it for the day weather wise.

Sets up another nail biter tomorrow - i'm out all day with no wifi FFS

I'm 1-2 miles away and rain is quite heavy now, so that might be it for the day. Tomorrow looks largely ok hopefully.

I had a day of no parent or work responsibilities and was ready to plonk myself in front of the sofa to watch today’s play. Now it’s been raining. :(

will we get all 3 sessions tomorrow?

I think the rain came at a good moment for England. If these two put on 50 more -- it looked pretty flat -- England would have been under real pressure

Chance of the odd interruption for an hour or so tomorrow but shouldn't be much more than that - but this is english weather...

London absolutely trash venue for tests. Look at how quiet it is
Different clientele.

I remember going to an England v New Zealand test at Trent Bridge. 4 cans or a bottle of wine allowed in your bag. Nobody told us this. I had 12 strongbow on my person. I had to sink 8 outside the ground from 10.15-11.00.

Lords is now the only ground in the country you can take booze into.

The difference between north and south (if you class Trent Bridge as north even though it's in the Midlands, and hasn't had a Test this year anyway) is staggering.

But it's a cultural thing, I've been lucky enough to go to each Test ground a few times and the one thing I've always noticed about the London grounds is the lack of seemingly proper cricket fans who want to go and cheer the team on, and have a beer with their mates.

There's much more corporate hospitality and posh stockbrokers.

At the 2019 Lord's Test I sat in front of a group of 4 or 5 blokes who spent the entire day talking business, very loudly in their stripy work shirts before heading off an hour before close of play.

You're never going to generate an atmosphere with people like that in crowd - and not all are like that but it only takes a few.

Up north it's much more working class and people just want to go and get drunk, and get noisier as the day goes on.

Feels wrong that it’s July and today is the last day of Test cricket this summer

I've lost a bit of confidence overnight. Wood clearly isn't fit and Ali/Root werent landing it great.

Really need Broad (who looks knackered) or Jimmy (who looks 41) to pick up 3/4.

One thing in our favour is the pitch dying, won't be easy to pick up runs so you could see the Aussies get 'stuck' if they lose a couple and pressure build.

Yeah Aus favourites for sure. We need something magic and Broad feels like the best bet for it given his motivation, Ali and Wood potentially both unfit and Anderson struggling.

Easy stroll for the Aussies today.

I think Australia will win in what will be their biggest successful run chase in England since the Headingley test in the 1948 Ashes series.
