English cricket thread

360-5 -> 379-9, it’s not that type of pitch I feel. Probably got enough but I’d have preferred 400+.

As if Australia bowling 77 overs in a day whilst a spinner has bowled 20 of them isn’t bad enough, they’re delaying to avoid batting now. Ridiculous stuff this.

A situation that wasn’t needed if England just took what was on offer! Risky with Moeen unlikely to bowl in the next dig.
They should have declared at 18:19 and put them in for an over

We've scored 380 to set 367 - you're just arguing for perfect cricket to pick holes in today, it's been dominant.

I agree, but this is the criticism I have in general with this England side, they can be a little soft rather than drive the dominance home. I think it’s as much down to the quality of players they have rather than anything else but it’s definitely something they need to improve on. Once they do, it’s going to be quite the sight.

Fantastic day, and the Aussies have to put their whites on tomorrow - superb.

Proper days cricket that can't moan at all,for all the should have scored more etc we was taking risks all day playing shots hence the big lead can't have it both ways and the ball was starting to turn.

Big time response from the big bats today after a shocking first innings. Root, Stokes, Bairstow all responded in a big way. 377 should be enough but if anyone can blow this, it's probably England.

Joel Wilson is fecking awful.

If he's given you out you should automatically review.

England slightly throwing wickets away at the end but still in a great position. Really enjoyed today, great attitude and positivity.

Makes total sense. Good way to go if we can win this. What a series he's had.,

Wow, Broad retiring. Wonder what Anderson is thinking.

Gutted by Broad retiring, his commitment to the bit was something else, one more ‘legs pumping’ spell would be an amazing way to end.

Really hope he finishes with one of his mega spells. Will really miss what he brings to the team.

Wow just came to post that aswell broad retiring didn't see that see that coming thought it would be Jimmy hopefully he can give us one final Aussie demolition job tommorow.

I’d bet that Jimmy will go to, but maybe doesn’t want the fanfare final two days that Broad might.

Unless of course he’s set on getting 700 wickets, but I think those stats motivate fans more than players.

Fair play to Broad, an absolute brilliant bowler and always saved his best against the Aussies.
England will miss him massively.

I don’t think Jimmy’s retiring and can see him being important to England’s tour in India with his reverse swing.

Stuart Broad. A true great. Showed up when the lights were the brightest. Happy Trails.

Didn't see the announcement but he's got a very young family now doesn't he?

Makes sense if he's happy to stay at home with them.

He'll be fondly remembered and this series will cement it.

Broad playing every test of every Ashes series here since 2009 was an insane stat. Unreal competitor.

An England great. Always got the most out of himself with the ball, relentlessly fit and good for a crucial spell.

I think the only slight disappointment for his career was he didn't really fulfill his early promise with the bat. But really that's a very minor thing considering what he has gone onto achieve.

Such a difference to Anderson in that between the two Broad seems to have a lot more left in the tank.

One of England's greatest bowlers ano fantastic competitor who was strangely underrated by some. He'll be a huge loss but good for him going out on his terms.
Would love him to get Warner one last time and produce one of his magic spells, either way he's going to get an incredible reception all day which he fully deserves.

An England legend.

Oof that's going to be tough for England with Anderson presumably not far off a similar decision. What a player though, absolute legend. Hoping he picks up a few more test wickets yet.

Gutted but he deserves to put his feet up after all he's achieved. Broad is a legend and an all time great.
