English cricket thread

 Gilchrist was immense. I also seem to remember him walking off in a WC final (wasn't it?) after he knicked the ball - even though it was one i wasn't sure the umpre would've given. Not sure if i am rewriting history or if i am, in fact, remembering well? Old age is a bugger.
Semi final in 2003 I think, pretty sure the umpire didn't give him out and he decided to walk.

Gilchrist will definitely be remembered as one of the greats. He redefined the role. Boucher is up there too. Sangakarra.

You could make a case for Dhoni, AB, and Haddin too.

Rizwan in a T20 setting exclusively.

I wasn't saying there aren't any. Carey isn't one though.

Ok, though I am not sure what I am supposed to do with this information, but since we are on the topic, do you go around picking up random dogshit? And if you do, may I be bold enough and ask why???
You get a £100 fine if you are caught walking away and leaving it.

Jealous of those going. I’m attending the women’s Ashes next week at Bristol, which was a bargain for £15.

You said 'how many are' and I gave you a list. It's not the full back of cricket basically (I don't believe there is one anyway).

Loved it when I went to a one day game v SA last year, first time going to the Ashes so mega excited for it.

We go to the OT test every year, I think this is my 3rd or 4th Ashes at OT, we tend to go to Oval as well when there are tests there, I have some friends going to Headingley too but I am off to Zante this week so couldn't make it.

I went to the SA test at OT last summer saw Foakes and Stokes get hundreds was a great day

Well my point was there would be very few and you basically proved that.

Full-back of cricket was slightly tongue-in-cheek and I was mainly trying to highlight that when you think of cricket greats you probably look at great batsman first, then great bowlers, just as in football you think of the great attacking players and great midfielders. Wicket keepers and defenders (especially full-backs) are basically after thoughts.

Anyone got a view on Stuart Broad or that Bairstow run out yesterday?

Are you sooks still crying over Bairstow's brainfart?

I played in a Grand Final back in 2017, during the match I was batting with someone who just brought up his 50. As he got back for the second run he turned around, walked out of his crease and raised the bat. He was then run out.

I didn't cry about it. It was a dumb thing for him to do, just like it was for Bairstow to immediately walk out of his crease before the umpire had called over. Just dumb cricket.

Anyway, you lot should be tuff, like me.

I think the non English fans are more upset about the English being upset, than the English fans are actually upset.

what is Rizwan doing in this list?

what's it cost to become a MCC member? can anyone become one?

An hour out from the finish of both tests England have been favourites to win them.

It is actually quite easy for female players of a reasonable standard to get membership now, though not that cheap. I played for a women’s team a few years ago and a few of my friends joined, so hopefully it will become more diverse in that sense at least over the next decade or so. My friend’s brother, who is black, is also a playing member but very much in the minority and I don’t know how welcoming or not he’s found it.

I still don't get how England were deemed favourites with Stokes + Tail and 90 odd runs left.

Felt like very a long way off, especially as he was already at 150.

The way Aussie sport & media works, I reckon if Cummins had taken back the appeal & they had lost then he would have been crucified for it.

I agree but these are mathematical formulas not fans opinions with stakes in the game (me and you).

He's the best wicketkeeper batsman in the T20 format for me, will probably go down as the GOAT of T20 wicketkeeper batsmen.

I mean, his average is a smidge under 50. The next highest for a wk-batter is 34.

Aye - Probably going by the stats, the 7th and 8th batsman in for a team, on average, can probably bat decently... but we had Broad (OK) and Robinson (meh).

Paddy Power didn’t have us as favourites an hour out for this one. I think Australia were still 4/11 or something. We were favourites on Thursday night/Friday morning and I put some money on Australia thinking we were still pretty far off and the collapse was likely.

Nice! I was at the one day as I said, torrential rain all day and only ended up playing a T20

Maybe the hype for Bazball made some believe they might surprise aussies.

WinViz had us at 51% about 10 minutes before Stokes got out.

I seem to never agree with WinViz
