English cricket thread

You can really tell how much it hurts some people in here how much praise England are getting at the moment for how they are approaching the game, some real bitterness or perhaps jealously.

It should be noted that this is the same England side that was unanimously shit just over a year ago. Only Harry Brook has come in and I don’t think he’s the reason they’ve become competitive.

Yeah this is it. For this group of players I think it’s clearly the best way to play and to get the most out of them, but there‘s bits to be honed eg I think some of these declarations will sometimes be the wrong call (as the NZ one was IMO) and sometimes the batters could arguably rein it in a tiny bit to adjust to the circumstances. Overall I’d rather have the 2005 era team given they were actually better, but for what we’ve got I think we’re punching above our weight and being entertaining at the same time, so can’t complain too much.

Certainly. If this was India or new Zealand people would love it.

I really don't understand why the Commentary Team keep insisting that Pat Cummings has no tactics in this game and is just being reactive. His tactics are simple: He believes that the way England are batting they'll eventually get themselves out or his own bowlers will get a wicket. Yes, it's defensive and no, it might not work but those are his tactics and to be honest they're not that difficult to figure out.

It's not rocket science is it

Yeah I don’t think England will be having much of a say in a declaration

This is a cracking match and I am at work not able to watch.. hope the rain stays away

Yeah we just can't build that partnership sadly
So frustrating, just when I think we're going to pull away a bit we fall back and it's suddenly very even again, what a game though!

Moeen needs to play this sensibly for a while now, get that lead up to 250 and then he can attack.

England need to get 250+. Forecast tomorrow isn’t great.

So try and drag this out as long as possible and hope for a draw now is it?

I hope this is one of those random games where Stuart Broad smacks it round for a quick 30-40

Yep.

Especially when pre Bazball we had won I think 1 in 17 test matches and since then I think we've won 11 in 13.

Can it sometimes go from very attacking to too reckless? Yeah sometimes. But fecking hell it's a million times better than what England were doing before it.
