English cricket thread

Listening to TMS at work - talking about how BazBall is just nothing more then doing whatever loony thing you can think of to try and feck with the head of your opponents.

Makes sense to be fair.

Pretty much.

The main reason I find the term Bazball nauseating is that it gets made out as if no one ever played attacking cricket until McCullum became England coach. The last England coach was also a "play your natural game" mentality. The difference is only that Trevor Bayliss England would be 30-3 all the time because they tried to smack the colour out of the ball driving on balls outside off stump but with McCullum they'll ramp it over the slips.

England are just as likely to be all out for 200 so wouldn’t get carried away just yet

Thought the main reason would be related to your username!

Honest question….does the rest of the world hate the English at cricket in the same way they do at rugby and football?

I enjoy seeing England's football team fail but that's down to the media as opposed to the team, players and the staff. Generally speaking, I don't dislike the England rugby team that much and would prefer to see them win as opposed to New Zealand. On the cricket side of things and this is terribly un-Australian, I don't dislike the England cricket team that much. We speak about the Ashes being cricket's ultimate rivalry and would rather it be a competitive rivalry than a predictable procession.

i’m about to start watching, so you can thank me when a wicket soon falls.

When it comes to the rugby side of things, I sense Aussies would rather NZ win than England. Trans Tasman brotherhood (which I don't go along with) and a preference for the way the All Blacks play compared to England which matters when the rugby league media here keep shitting on rugby as a spectacle.

Aussies love nothing more than beating England in the Ashes which goes without saying. It feels like that's been amplified a bit this series because people are sick of hearing about Bazball and there's some sniggering about England's approach. It's worked well so far but will it come unstuck against a top class pace attack?

I know I'm saying this with some hindsight but Friday's declaration from England was stupid. Another 50 runs or so would have come in handy Another 30 even would be handy.

Good to see you in another thread too!
Depends on the weather, doesn’t it? We have to play tuck-it-up-your-jumper rugby because it pisses it down most of the season.
And, as you’re about to see, it’s also happy to rain in the summer as well. With that in mind I don’t hate the declaration….it’s total hindsight though as if we’d grabbed a few wickets it’d have been a masterstroke, even if we hadn’t spurned so many chances yesterday.
I will agree on bazball….it’s almost like a commercial rebranding idea from a marketing team, it’s tedious

That’s how I view Australian rugby….I’d rather they improve a bit and keep the rivalry alive, can’t be all one-sided

Slow outfield has probably cost at least 15 runs in each first innings but I don't mind it. Some of the boundary ropes are so ridiculously pulled inside the perimeter of the pitch in many tests these days so at least to score boundaries through mid on and mid off are requiring the sweetest timing and connection.

Bah, cheap way to get out.

Always feels like we're always a bit behind where we need to be in this test.

It’s been an amazing Test in that every time you feel one side is getting on top, the other team gets a breakthrough to get back in it

If England lose it'll be because test match cricket is five days long and there is no extra points for trying to win it early. Scoring at 5 an over is fun to watch but if Australia have a whole day to bat and chase a score of 300 they don't have to match the run rate. They just have to bat normally.

You'll get a session in total at most tomorrow if the weather forecast is correct.

Conversely if we win and tomorrow is as rainy as its looking, then it would be fully down to the quick scoring.

That's the thing though, for the last decade batting normally (Root and a couple of others aside) has meant looking under pressure for an hour or two and getting out for 15. At least this way we're generally getting runs and putting teams under pressure.

Also, with the weather tomorrow anything other than scoring quickly is a dead match.

Some lads in here DESPERATE for England to lose this so they can have a dig. I see you.

Didn't you hear? England aren't trying to win, they are trying to save test cricket. You shouldn't care about the results but love England for saving us fans.
