English cricket thread

Yeah that kind of matches up to what I was thinking then.

Conventional declaration with a solid days batting would be leaving around 5/6 overs at the end of the day and a lead of 320+.

It’ll be fascinating to see what they decide (if they get to decide). Going one down from the point they were at lunch today would be a bit of a disaster.

I suspect it will be a draw in the end. Tuesday’s forecast isn’t great.

I think we'll probably get bowled out.

Feels like 1 session of standard positive batting, followed by 1 session of flat out aggression and then a declaration/all out.

I'm the other way around on that one.
I take it there are plenty of Aus that think that way?

Nice to see you in another thread by the way

How’s the ashes viewed from an Aussie perspective so far?

That’s gutting that 20 minutes of weather cost us 2 wickets. Hopefully that’ll do for the day now.

Lack of application from our openers, you just wouldn't see it from theirs. Chucking away two wickets in 30 mins is just plain sloppy

Absurd umpiring to continually have the pointless checks, they seem desperate to get the Aussies bowling again on this pitch

You’re on ignore, but I’ll take the opportunity to prove you wrong. How long did it take for Australia lose Warner and Labuachange yesterday? 2 balls? Yeah wouldn’t see it from the Aussies.

Such shit posts, continually.

This thread used to be pretty balanced and free from the endless negativity and moaning of the football forums :(

Such a nicely balanced test. Could easily go either way. Just hope we have enough playing time for a fitting end (ie not England being skittled first session tomorrow )

That's just not true though is it. And England would probably rather be in a position to bat tomorrow from the off than having to chase Aussie wickets, even with their openers out.

Have you watched England cricket over the last 30 years, I feel like I’m always waiting for the inevitable collapse

Ridiculous that we can play until 7:30 if there’s a rain delay but can’t go past 6:30 if they don’t get all the overs in on a clear day.

Australia definitely benefitted from favourable bowling conditions in that 20 min spell, before they went off England looked comfortable.

Definitely had the rub of the green so far the Aussies in this test, hopefully England can get back on track tomorrow morning first hour is crucial.

Gloomy, raining, new ball nipping around. 2 top bowlers, Horrible time to bat. It happens it's cricket. The important thing is we didn't lose anymore. Lots of batting left in the shed yet.

Similar to Warner and labuschnagne yesterday however they don't get the excuse of the conditions being compleatly against them.

Forecast dosent look great for Tuesday so draw looks quite likely.

Either way it's good to see 2 quality sides going at eachother and giving us a very competitive test bodes well for the rest of the series.

Can someone thread ban this bore

Maybe if England didn't make such errors I wouldn't have to keep taking shots at them,in regards to Utd my anger is due to those damn leeches destroying this club. I don't want to keep complaining about things, however both are giving me too much ammunition. I dream of the day they are booted out and Erik is fully backed with an ambitious owner which I believe Jassim is

The breadth and styles of cricket on display in 3 days has been amazing so far. Really good for England to be going toe-to-toe with undoubtedly the best side about right now.

Yeah, I watch everything I can and wouldn't miss the ashes under any circumstances. We're in a pretty decent position still in this one, definitely more so that a lot of the recent ashes tests. Agreed that we can still collapse and we can half expect it sometimes but still hope for the best. We've got the batters to at least put some pressure on them in the 4th innings I reckon.

Expecting a collapse is fine, and the thread tends to treat that without too much negativity after what we've all been through over the years (mostly). I'm loving the quality shown from both sides so far though, and taking on the Aussie's by being aggressive is great.

Oh for sure, it’s also supremely English to be cynical about everything. Especially after how liberating the last 12 months Bazball has been. It’s great to see England on the front foot against a top side, I think it’s going to go right down to the wire in this series, so we should all just strap in and enjoy :).

Time to make use of the ignore function for a certain boring moany twat, should hopefully improve my mood.

Yep and it's all been of good quality, from Roots quick accumulation to bairstows run a ball blast, and khawja's classy disciplined century.

Some really good captaincy and bowling aswell.

Tomorrow is a good chance for someone to take control of this match, can Australia get some wickets early and put England right under the pump or can England put some good partnerships together and put Australia under pressure.

It's on a knife edge should be thrilling tomorrow.

I'd have the Aussies just about top - not clear best side?

If England win this series comfortably (I think it will be close - but they could), they have a claim to be the best side of the last 18 months.

Then you'd have Aussies, England and India all pretty tight with each basically unbeatable at home.

To be honest, any test bowling side would expect to take wickets with a new ball and those kind of gloomy overhead conditions; Jimmy Anderson would be chomping at the bit waiting to bowl with the floodlights on like that.

England just have to clear their heads and get on with it tomorrow. Australia have had a bit of luck with the weather and made some timely inroads while England were hoping for the covers to come back on. It happens time and time again in test matches.

exact send off was “f*** off, you f****** pr***”

What a thoroughly unlikeable character. I get it’s the Ashes and it’s a highly charged affair, but at least have some respect for the batter who has outscored everyone on your team. Khawaja is known to be one of the nicest guys as well

I can't wait for 11am, but am absolutely dreading it at the same time!

It was partly the shot, presumably? You charge a fast bowler in a test match and get your stumps knocked over you quite often get a send off, as they take the charging personally.

Definitely over the top and can't moan if he loses some match fee, though not really up there with the days of 'get ready for a broken fecking arm' or whatever it was.

If he screamed it directly in his face I could maybe understand some of the outrage, but he didn't, it was part is his celebration with team mates.

Nothing to see here folks.

People really moaning about Robinson sending off an Aussie? Of all nations to come to the defense of it's the Aussies

This is such a non story

Won't someone think of those poor nice Aussie's who never say anything bad to anyone in a game of cricket ever.

I take it there are plenty of Aus that think that way?

Nice to see you in another thread by the way

When it comes to the rugby side of things, I sense Aussies would rather NZ win than England. Trans Tasman brotherhood (which I don't go along with) and a preference for the way the All Blacks play compared to England which matters when the rugby league media here keep shitting on rugby as a spectacle.

Aussies love nothing more than beating England in the Ashes which goes without saying. It feels like that's been amplified a bit this series because people are sick of hearing about Bazball and there's some sniggering about England's approach. It's worked well so far but will it come unstuck against a top class pace attack?

I know I'm saying this with some hindsight but Friday's declaration from England was stupid. Another 50 runs or so would have come in handy Another 30 even would be handy.

Good to see you in another thread too!

Game is finely poised right now for either team to take control and run away with it once play starts. But if I had to choose I'd rather be Australia now since the bowlers have had plenty of time to put their feet up and be fresh to bowl to two batsmen on nought.

I think the risk of bazball is England go out swinging, get a load of quick runs at 5 an over but in the process keep losing wickets every 40 or so runs leaving Australia with a full day and maybe a session tonight to chase it down.

It's been an interesting discovery of his post-captaincy that once that pressure is removed Joe Root is actually moderately insane.

I love this Joe Root, he’s just pulled it off too what a madman

I can't believe they've just put the field back for his ramp shot in the second fecking over of the day. These absolute wimps.

Listening to TMS at work - talking about how BazBall is just nothing more then doing whatever loony thing you can think of to try and feck with the head of your opponents.

Makes sense to be fair.
