English cricket thread

It's a disgrace that international sporting events like this are paywalled. Everybody should be able to tune in and enjoy it on a cnuting Sunday. Cocks.

I wonder if they would consider just showing one weekend day of a test live on BBC or channel 4.

Whenever I hear Mark Nicholas it reminds me of my formative years. Sorry that kids miss out on that.

They have done just fine ease up mate your team has been doing well under Stokes no point in being so negative all the time .

So I shouldn't be annoyed when England blow away such a good position. They would be in so much trouble IF chances were taken yesterday

Whole of 2005 Ashes was on C4

Mate mistakes would occasionally happen it's part and parcel of the game , England are still ahead in this game and have good chance to wrest back Ashes that should atleast bring some enjoyment .

Unfortunately it will because England lack that express pace to blow away any tail

Nice jinx. I agree with a lot of your criticisms - for sure we’ve wasted chances and should be more on top in this game than we are, but I’m not as downbeat as you are and England showed good fight to mop things up quickly there. Takes the momentum back and it’s a pretty even second innings shoot out now. Much more hopeful again now than I was last night or this morning.

Loved the field placings from Stoke for the Khawaja wicket. He did the same vs Pakistan and it worked well to restrict our batsman on placid tracks. You need this type of creativity to sometimes get wickets, hope our captains can think out of the box.

Honestly I think England need to bat out till the end of tomorrow. It’s a lot easier chasing nowadays in first class cricket than ever before.

Predictable. Had no confidence in Duckett seeing this period out.

Edit. Yep. Match winning hour this.

Having to open in these conditions is going to decide the test. Don’t want to keep harking back to it but those runs we just gave up on day 1 would be very useful here indeed.

Definitely, was pointless taking them off with Root still out there. Day 3 always looked the worst to bat on weather wise so you can’t say Stokes wasn’t warned

That’s gutting that 20 minutes of weather cost us 2 wickets. Hopefully that’ll do for the day now.

Honestly I still can’t get my head around it. We sacrificed those runs for 4 overs at them the 1st evening. If we didn’t take a wicket we’d just given those runs away.

Annoying but no severe damage.

Hope we don't get back on today and bat tomorrow in the sun. 300 will od.

Losing two openers when they were completely comfortable before is pretty severe. We’ll need Root again.

We will need Root, or Brooks, or Stokes, or Bairstow etc etc.

It wasn't severe damage. It was damage though!

Hopefully that's it's for the day, lucky little window of opportunity there for Aus removing both the openers cheaply.

Tomorrow looks a much better day for batting, pitch is still good plenty of batting still left.

It's right in the balance this, anyone's game. 1 collapse or one spell of magic bowling could swing it. England will need someone to get in a get a big score you feel to set a good total for chance of winning.

Setting up to be a classic.

For this particular England side it's not too severe. For years the top 2-3 are out pretty cheaply and 4-8 save the day.

Hammering it down about 20 miles away, doubt they’ll get back out today.

My only fear is Stokes getting an itch now for an abrupt declaration to give England an opportunity to take 10 wickets.

Anything below 280 would be suicidal. If the forecast stays the same for Tuesday, I can see a declaration just before tea tomorrow, but they’ll have to motor to risk that.

Interesting.

Im on the rugby union subreddit and there was a thread about best enemies etc etc
Pretty much every nation named England, you had Aussies saying they’d rather beat us than the kiwis

I'm the other way around on that one.

England were going at around 120-140 per session on Day 1 without going too crazy.

Yeah that kind of matches up to what I was thinking then.

Conventional declaration with a solid days batting would be leaving around 5/6 overs at the end of the day and a lead of 320+.

It’ll be fascinating to see what they decide (if they get to decide). Going one down from the point they were at lunch today would be a bit of a disaster.
