English cricket thread

In India the cricket view is very indo centric. People mostly watch limited overs and t20. England haven’t historically great at those two formats so aren’t thought of much.

I personally find this bazball stuff insufferable, but it’s definitely not a mainstream cricket fan view. It’s not a dislike English cricket thing for me though, because your cricketing summer is one of my favourite things about the sports calendar.
For West Indies, definitely. England is the old enemy. Beating you guys is far more satisfying than anyone else. I mean...in cricket terms I would guess England are the old enemy for almost everyone since almost all the primary cricket countries are the former colonies.
Interesting.

Im on the rugby union subreddit and there was a thread about best enemies etc etc
Pretty much every nation named England, you had Aussies saying they’d rather beat us than the kiwis

Well shouldn't have played then

Not exactly the kind of thing you can tell before a game. Your posting style is annoying enough in the football forums, please stop with the know it all attitude in here too. I reckon Ben Stokes knows more about cricket than us all.

I was saying long before we needed to get Foakes into this team somehow. Maybe if England actually saw it this issue then wouldn't need to keep complaining.

Looks like half of today might be rained out going on the weather report

With most of Tuesday raining too its not looking good.

It's a disgrace that international sporting events like this are paywalled. Everybody should be able to tune in and enjoy it on a cnuting Sunday. Cocks.

Sky complaining about a wicket that's had 15 wickets fall, 3 drops by the England wicket keeper and another out but a no ball all in 2 days a and an hour

I meant the rustiness. I wanted Foakes in too.

I reckon you’d find something else to complain about fairly easily.

I just had a look and there's a weirdly big difference between the beeb and the met office today. Beeb say we'll be lucky to get any play after lunch, met office that we could be fine until tea.

BBC is for potential thundery showers rather than definite rain. Big chance of rain looks later in the day to me, so I’m delaying doing the stuff I need to get done around the house.

Of course this might backfire if there’s no rain at all

You seem a bit upset mate.

I have no issue with the way England play, if it gets them victories then great for them. But please spare me the sanctimonious BS that England aren't playing this way too try and win but rather "save" test cricket, seeing themselves as saviours of the game.

Playing attacking cricket is not the only way to have an entertaining game of cricket. They're being condescending to anyone who doesn't try to play their way.

Well let's face it there has been zero cause for optimism since butter fingers and no baller chucked away all momentum yesterday. I just knew we wouldn't blow away the tail this morning because haven't got the attack to do that.

That’s sport. I don’t know how you’ve still not realised that. Anyway, anyone who uses childish terms like that is going on mute. It’s like being on Twitter.

Robinson telling Khawaja to feck off. He's only just scored 141
TBF don’t think it was purely aimed at him though. On a pitch like this where you toil over after over, you can be excused for getting worked up with a break through

I agree they are simply doing it because they believe that's the best way to win , most probably they have just come to conclusion that they simply don't have the players to bat long hours so basically maximising their run making potential by playing aggresive cricket .

It's working for them so far good for them , others would do whats suitable for them.

Have they actually achieved much or bought any new audiences to Test Cricket to believe this is the way to Save test Cricket and anyhow I also don't believe turning Test cricket into Longer versions of T 20 would work haven't exactly helped ODI either .

Called him a fecking prick too. Classy guy especially considering his past history.

Got to love cricket and the sportsmanship. Saw the slow mo replay after that wicket - whilst there Was a lot celebrations going on - you could see Root tap Usman on the shoulder showing respect for the knock.

Not sure why anyone thinks test cricket needs 'saving' anyway, full houses, much talk and excitement in this thread, seems fine to me.

Think some just want to shit on England because it's England tbh, most of us are just enjoying some great cricket.

Totally agree. But there is always moaners

I wouldn’t worry about it. I don’t think anyone has made claims about “saving” test cricket, nothing wrong with saying that it’s made it more exciting. Certainly has for me.

Same people crying about test cricket turning into one day cricket, were probably moaning about the declaration, wanting Root to slog it around. You tell me which is more like one day cricket.

Yes having to live stream cricket feels particularly irksome in a way I’m probably long past feeling with football
