England vs Pakistan first test thread

England just cant play leg spinners, it's obvious from the summer and today.

It helps if they don't play poor shots.

Flintoff and Pieterson threw it away.

That was the key, we needed one of them to see it through till the end and both threw their wickets away.

Pieterson is in piss poor form, besides his batting is suited to faster tracks.

Who would you drop is Vaughan is fit for the next match?
Collingwood or Pietersen?

Collingwood is a one day player...

Colly, simple question.

Pieterson's only got one stroke. That slog sweep effort. Frankly, I think he's vastly overrated and a cnut.

I'd like to see Thorpe back.

Credit to Pakistan. . . good comeback.

shoaibs a class test match bowler, jus needs to keep himself fit and his attitude.....anyways i was supporting pakistan so y'all can hate on me as much as yas want but im chuffed,haha.......anyways can someone tell me how quick he was bowlin around during the game?

Akhtar got upto 95mph. So did Sami - 94.1 mph was his fastest. Generates serious pace via his wippy action.

On a sidenote. Gary Sobers reckons Freddie's better than Botham.

He's right.

Shame, you must remember that England still have a relatively inexperienced team and showed it. England should have gotten a higher score in their first innings and Trescothick rather gave his wicket away in the second innings trying to play out the day. Still, I think England have enough quality to win the next two games against Pakistan, especially if they get to bat first. The do need Vaughan to get healthy fast because he is one of the few experienced England batsmen.

agreed, i was even saying that during the ashes but i suppose kevin proved me wrong..

but i do like added stablity and experience in test matches, especially in a young and relatively inexperienced team.

I don't trust the Pakistanis not to produce pitches designed for a draw.

(That's racist.)

When does the second test start?

On a side note, I still dont like the whole playing two spinners thing.

pakistan should debut 2-3 youngsters in each of the remaining tests if they want to be assured of winning the series.. somehow or the other, their test debutants do amazing in their first game and then phizzle away..

why not? if u have two good spinners in bouncy tracks, they should go for it.. i remember india in the early 80s, bedi, chandra, venkat, and prasanna.. what a quartet!

Sunday.

If Vaughan fancies bowling a lot and is back, we could play an extra batsman. And drop Colly.

But England dont, thats the whole point, they are just playing two spinners because it is what you are supposed to do in the sub continent, but its not England's strength. England got where they did with a four pronged pace attack, and with Jones out and no one else to replace him (he just isnt good enough GG) England should just play an extra batsmen.

If I had a credit card I could use on net, I would have made a bet with ya.

Anyway, I say the will and I can always brag like today. :D

You got lucky. England dominated the test.

I wouldnt bet with you anyway, I dont want to take your money ;)

Seriously, England gave away the win today, they were on top for most of the match even without their captain and second best bowler. If Vaughan gets fit for the second test England should win it.

leviathan, which country do you support in cricket?
You are from Nepal right?

ya from nepal. i lived in pakistan for a couple of years when my father was in the UN so started supporting them in cricket.. not the most consistent of teams, but i do find them exciting.

Hoggard and Pakistan team fined

Cricinfo staff

November 16, 2005

Matthew Hoggard has been fined 20% of his match fee for excessive appealing during the first Test at Multan while the entire Pakistan team have been fined for a slow over rate.

Hoggard was reported by the two on-field umpires, Simon Taufel and Billy Bowden, and the third umpire Asad Rauf, for his appealing as he celebrated the wicket of Salman Butt in Pakistan's second innings. He was found guilty at a hearing conducted by the match referee, Roshan Mahanama, at the end of the match.

Meanwhile, each member of the Pakistan team was fined 10% of their match fees while Inzamam-ul-Haq was penalised double that amount as captain. Pakistan fell two overs short of the minimum required to be bowled in the time available.

-----------------------------

Seems a tad unfair on Hoggard, it was a big wicket, dont think he did much wrong.

Vaughan looks like he will be fit for the second test. Do you drop Udal or Collingwood? I say Udal, but they'll probably drop Colly.

Or both. Vaughan can bowl offspin. Give one of the other batsman a try. Louden can bat and bowl offspin. And he's got a dousra.
