England vs Pakistan first test thread

Interesting series this..

Pakistan haven't played in some time but seem to be doing well finally..Their problem is their pace attack.Wasim and Waqar were never replaced.Instead the selectors chose Shabbir whose action is so bad, that the junior coaches must've blind to not correct it.

I'd say this match will be a draw though.Unless England decide to collapse in dramatic fashion again.

Interesting stat that.. but i still think the wicket wasnt doing enough, teams were often in fabulous situations 160/2, 250/3 etc but just began to collapse. This is one thing that happens often in the subcontinent or atleast used to here on Indian pitches as well. Any tourists, the aussies or english, would generally lose wickets in a heap.. its happened so often, must have something to do with getting in and taking time to get used to the conditions, and IMO also a little to do with the mind.

Anyone notice how Amol's only contribution to this thread was to talk about India?

Plus ca change.

As play ended, Shahid Afridi was seen scuffing the wicket with his boots.

England batsman Kevin Pietersen immediately asked the player what he was doing, no doubt concerned about the condition of the pitch.

Cheating cnuts.

Not the first time the Paks have cheated.

Cheating nation.

Inzy's dismissal was excellent. Well done Harmo.

Shame he didn't knock the fat cnut into his stumps.

I missed it mate.

Though he was clearly not out.

Shahid Afridi as been banned for one test match and two one day internationals.

Fair enough, let himself down...blatantly obvious.

Surprised he didnt use bottle tops, would have probably done a better job with them.

Wanting to show his silhouette skills I suppose, with the effort he put in you're right bottle tops would have been the better option...

Big day ahead

It's fecked. Even if we save the test, your lot have got the series sown up. I can't see us winning the third on pitches like this.

How about Mike Atherton caught in the cameras trying to rub the ball with some thing and later insisting he had never used any substance to tamper the shine on the ball?

He nearly resigned over that.

Cheating feckers, I see the other spinner has been warned twice today for running on the pitch and marking the wicket.

Cheating cheating feckers.

So England definately arent the best team in the world. The Australians would have battered this Pakistan team.. it is however something the English team should learn from and improve in the future.

Need to get as near to Pakistan's total as possible.

Bell's innings was very Thorpe like. He's done well.

Cheating cheat got the wicket too.

That said, another wicket and you're looking a possible defeat.

They could well win this series 3-0 the way it's going, we look out of sorts imo, still after such a great run we were always bound to have a dip sometime, the cheaters have done well with the cheating.

Freddies batting looks lost right now imo. And Strauss hasn't turned up.

They're a very good side when they get it right. It's always been their way, the sublime to the ridicilous. But if we want to be the best, we have to win a series in places like Pakistan. Australia have in the past.

So there's no excuse. Perhaps we haven;t got many match-winners. Pakistan always look as side of talented individuals, we've got a much better team, with Freddie as the main man. However, if he's not doing well, then the team suffers. That said he got a cracking delivery today.

The only thing they have better than us is the spin bowlers.

The spin has created presuure over there and allowed the quicks to take wickets as players are trying to score more from then as they are finding it hard to score off the spinners.

They wouldn't beat us over here.

That said the first test was very close, and minus the quick innings by the cheater we'd be pretty much square.

Jones has played better in this series though, as has Bell.

We've not beat them in England for 23/4 years.

Did we not win 1-0 last time when Nas was the skipper?

That's correct Nate. Won the last test match in the gloom with Nas and Thorpey at the crease. Thorpe hit the winning runs with the Pakistanis were complaining about the light. I think.

Not in England.

That was in Pakistan.

Watched a cracking spell from Shoaib, he's proper box office stuff. Giles was equally as good though. As was Jones.

Good stuff.

The fact that it's only a three test series makes the outcome much more random. And dependent on who wins the tosses. Over a long series we'd have this lot.

I think that was one of the reason why we won the Ashes. Ponting helped as well, by putting us into bat, the idiot.
