England Cricket 2016/17 - Bangladesh, India & West Indies (ODI's only)

Someone post the he's already dead gif

be funny if he gets out for 299

That's a bit reactionary I'd say. Moeen has done fine job and Rashid has by and large bowled very well this series.

That said, England do have too many "all rounders".

Rashid really hasn't bowled well. He's picked up wickets when scores have already been made with rank balls and bowls far too much shite (even for a leggie); he just doesn't have any control whatsoever and doesn't trouble good batsmen.

I've got no problem with Mooen as a second spin option and batting at 6 or 7 but I think 4 is too high for him, and so is the responsibility of being the main spinner.

Besides, I've said most of this before the series as well. So its not really reactionary. It's just obvious, imo, that of the bowlers on show today only Broad and Stokes are good enough.

England just don't have a class spinner to replace Rashid or Moeen.

Do you have better options though? Ansari, Batty and Dawson all look crappy bowlers to me from little I have seen

Has there been any other batsman who's been dropped from the team after making 300?

jesus triple ton.. wowzers. Hope he gets out, don't want him beating Lara.

Well this is half the problem.

Bayliss doesn't watch country cricket so picks his favourites or people he knows. I can sort of understand the thinking behind Batty (but surely if they'd watched him they'd see he isn't very good?) but the picks of Ansari and Dawson were and are bizarre; they have ridiculously ordinary records.

We're not blessed, but does that make it more odd that the two spinners who actually took wickets in the CC last year (in the first division no less) were left out? I'm sure they would want to ease Leach in in an ideal world, but we're a long way past ideal with our spin bowling options.

Bizarre not to have Leach in the squad. Should have been in there.

What lesson is that exactly?

I am an England fan btw.. just want them to take away series more seriously, be less arrogant.. be more disciplined on wickets which are batter friendly and stop giving wickets away when they bat.

I really like this set of players we have, it is a talented bunch.. but there is no way they should be losing a series this heavily. For me it is between the ears where we have been lacking.

Agree with what you say apart from arrogance part. Can't say that they are arrogant. The discipline has been poor especially with bowling. The batsmen have been mixed. Talented team but a lot to learn. They will get there but tough decisions need to made.

300 I don't think anyone has been but boycott has been dropped after a double ton according to Cricinfo.

Has to be Sobers' 365 both Hayden and Lara had scored centuries before they went past his total
Thanks, can't think of any higher score.

Wasn't Jason Gillespie dropped after he scored a double hundred against Bangladesh?

A good selection headache for India now, particularly while playing in India. The next away tour is not there for a year so if India continues with 5 batsmen + WK + 5 bowler strategy, Rahane will have to sit out at least for next few games. Can't drop Nair after this innings and Rahane was struggling a bit with form before injury For Dhawan or Rohit, the way back is tough.

I can see Karun being dropped for Rahane if our next test is abroad. Its unfair but Rahane is a seasoned batsman and has been reasonably consistent. Even this series he had a century in one of the tests.
I think this is the end of Rohit in Tests though. Or Mishra for that matter (unless he does some magic tomorrow)

We play one-off test vs Bangladesh and then 4 test series at home vs Australia. After that there is no scheduled test, away at least, outside subcontinent till end of 2017. In 2018 Jan we go to South Africa but that is far away. That time strategy may change a bit too to have more proper batsmen so both Nair and Rahane can get in.

Nair will most likely be dropped for Rahane who's our 2nd best batsman. At least he should be.

Since his debut in the final test of 2013 Aus series in Delhi, this is the first time Rahane hasn't had a 90+ score in entire series. He's scored 90+ in away tours to SA, New Zealand, England, Australia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and home series against SA, NZ so far.

Oh I thought he had a century but I think that was in the NZ series

Anyway that's my point too. Rahane Pujara and Kohli right now seem to be indispensable for us. Maybe we can play him as a keeper (he has kept wickets at Ranji I think?) and drop Parthiv for Karun.

Seems a lot of home tests. Is that the usual plan?

India's schedule has been like that for couple of cycles I think. 2-3 consecutive away series and then 2-3 home. Although this time it is even longer than usual.

England are so afraid to defend. Even someone like Root who's world class wants to attack and doesn't seem to trust his defense.

Because they've had a coach for two years who talks as if defending is a dirty word and the only way to play cricket is to turn your brain off.
