England Cricket 2016/17 - Bangladesh, India & West Indies (ODI's only)

Really disappointing but not overly surprising, all in all England have been terrible this year and have largely stagnated from a Test perspective. Think there is blame to go round amongst Cook, Bayliss and the selectors - but Cook will probably get the first axe if there is one.

England have played poorly but that was not a coward declaration. The pitch was still good to bat on and they wanted to not lose the first test. India could have easily made those runs had they had time.

England were effectively 163/0 at the end of day 4. They then spent 39 overs getting 146 runs @ 3.7. They could easily have upped that rate a fair bit with so many wickets in hand and declared 12-15 overs earlier. You need something extraordinary to bowl out a side within 50 overs. Bowling out a side within 65 overs though isn't that uncommon. I'm not saying England would have won for sure if they had given themselves extra overs but at least they would have showed a clear intent and a desire to win.

It was a coward declaration and it did say a lot about England's mentality. Settle for the safe option when you're clearly on top and have got a good opportunity to show some dominance. You don't win many test series abroad with that kind of mentality I'm afraid.

Not surprised, when the openers bat well, everyone else bats like they should be on the sunshine bus

So this Leach guy everyone was banging on about has a dodgy action which is why he wasn't picked.

Mark Butcher's just said on the verdict he's going over 30%. Doesn't look particularly good on Somerset that that hasn't been dealt with tbh.

Are you angry because India didn't manage to win 5-0 due to the declaration? This has been done to death after the first match. Cook didn't want to start the series on a loss so decided to play is safe, it was the right call as India could have easily knocked off the runs. Judging by the bowling performance from the bowlers afterwards, it was certainly the right call.

 I really couldn't care less which team won the series never mind caring about the margin of the win.

I'm just saying that England's mentality in the first test was a sign of things to come. When you don't even want to try to take advantage of a situation where you are on top, how on earth can you possibly expect to fight in the remaining of the series.

'Could have easily knocked off the runs.' Wow. Going at around 5.5 an over for 60-65 overs in the final two sessions of a test is easy apparently. In a match where the highest innings run rate was 3.44. That's the T20 generation for you.

England got thrashed in India because our spinners were useless. But there are some good things to come out of the series. Hameed looked like a real find and Jennings was also promising, all of a sudden England's top order looks far more solid. I suspect England are on the of having a great side. Luckily we'll be playing on far more seamer friendly pitches the next 12 months.

England's one day batting line-up is quality, an average display from most batsmen and still managed to get 350 on the board.

Yuvraj Singh must have some dirt on Kohli or the selectors. Should have been dropped about 5 years ago ffs

This game is pretty much gone. Not only openers not score which was expected they ate up a lot of balls while they were at it.

Dhawan is shit, too. Not sure how hes back.

I don't really understand this Indian team.

Apart from the obvious issue with Yuvraj theres too many bits and pieces all-rounders who aren't quite good enough with the bat in this format to get away with playing as few specialist batsmen as they have. Surely, in the absence of Rohit, you could slot Rahane in in the top order?

now people will realise that Yuvi was dropped because he was crap and not because of Dhoni

Missed the last ten overs. Is Jadhav good, or have the others played shit?

calculated batting by both so far. None of them are taking a lot of risks. Milking singles. Poor captaincy if you ask me. Spinners are ineffective and India taking at least 6 an over with ease. Dhoni and Yuvi hit a couple of shots but were outdone by some good bowling early on by Woakes and Willey

Good batting but faced with the comparatively easy task of milking our spinners. Games going to be won or lost when pace comes back on from both ends.

This guy is incredible. He's always been a good hitter but never knew he could bat properly.

India are going to win this easily for the same reason they won the test series easily.
