England Cricket 2016/17 - Bangladesh, India & West Indies (ODI's only)

This NEEDS to be overturned.

Root gone too. Shami unsettled him early in the over and then caught him plumb. India need four wickets now and looks like this is only heading one way from here on.

So Buttler gets an undeserved recall then and Batty for Ansari? Woakes for Broad if not fit?

Unless Batty is really good you'd probably be better off replacing Ansari with a seamer. Ali and Rashid should be enough as spin options and Mohali might offer something to the fast bowlers.

Poor stuff from England today.

I wonder if Cook is a bit too defensive as a captain. Could have gone for a more aggressive approach in Rajkot, and given themselves a real chance to win. Blocking every ball here wasn't the smartest thing to do either. Saffers tried that and failed with a much better batting lineup (they scored 143 in 143 overs ). Maybe they should've tried to score instead of going into their shells like that. Beyond Root, none of them could've managed it for very long anyway. Bairstow showed that you could score if you wanted to.

Yeah, the wicket played surprisingly well. Still don't understand why England went into block mode so early on. Pitch was more than good enough to have a good crack at 400 and they had the players to do it. They completely ruled out any chance of a win with the way they played yesterday.

No Cook made the correct call in the 1st test. The pitch was still good to bat on and India could have chased anything lower. I don't agree with the blocking however, it never works, batsmen should try to play their normal game and rotate the strike.

If Broad is fit, I would replace Ansari with Woakes and Duckett with Buttler.

If Broad is not fit, I would replace Broad with Finn in addition to the above changes.

Feel two spinners is enough and the seamers can rotate on the other end to add pressure. From Bayliss's comments today, he said Buttler was batting well in the nets so expect him to come in. Fully expect Duckett to become an England regular in the future though, however he needs to work on some aspects of his game.

I agree with both of you. Think England lost this match in the first innings. Shami got Cook with a peach of a delivery. Then Hameed's run out and Root's mindless slog turned the tide. If Stokes and Bairstow could bat well, so should everyone above them. Way to surrender the momentum and confidence gained from the first test.

Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes + 1 more (Batty?) are back in, Duckett, Broad and Ansari out

I'd love to see stats (although they'd be entirely subjective) on how many times Root has gotten out to stupidity rather than a brilliant ball.

Stokes aside, a good session - Now we just need the same in the evening. 300+ for 7 would be a decent recovery score.

What's the pitch playing like? I understand that most of the wickets were daft shots and Vaughan saying it's a 400-500 pitch but also that it's turning already and Buttler and Bairstow have been troubled?

It's been a placid track so far. Done nothing at all. In fact, our two best bowlers have been Shami and Umesh.

Ordinary batting, ordinary fielding and even worse catching so far.

At least Bairstow falls to a decent ball. Shame he didn't get 100, but he's done more than his fair share.

Those two late wickets has more or less ended England hopes of posting a competitive total

Hows he underrated? leading run scorer over the last 12 months and, at this moment, is Englands best batsmen.

And is that recognised widely enough? People bang on about Root, Stokes etc. when they have one good innings, Bairstow's always a case of yeah, he's played well I suppose. I don't think he get the plaudits he deserves. Outside of England I don't think he's as widely recognised as say Root or Cook or even Stokes as a key player.

Catch! :o

Now, just get Kohli... Who am I kidding, he'll make a ton.

Skybet Black Friday had Kohli 5/1 to make a ton in the first innings, was at work so completely forgot to logon at 11am to place 20 on it.

He's guaranteed a ton just to shove it in my face lol

Pretty much :D

Another one falls, though... I'd probably take India getting 330.

I think more and more people are recognising how good he is but agreed, in general underrated.. but I can see that changing after this series if he continues in this form.

Anyway what is up with India's running this test match.. absolute shambles.

Ashwin and Kohli really need to see the day off. Probably won't happen but India need this pair to fire.

Pujara got out like an idiot. Trying a terrible shot. Rahane didn't pick the googly, okay happens. But I feel bad for Karun Nair. Kohli was dreaming and got the lad run out on his debut.
