England Cricket 2016/17 - Bangladesh, India & West Indies (ODI's only)

This would be close to the biggest chase in tests. And Rashid was getting turns. Get root out and India have a chance

Will be very tough definitely. Rashid is a wrist spinner mind. He got more out of the pitch in the first test as well.

Also, Dean Jones "Jayant Yadav could bat #3 for Aus"

The thing about Kohli is, with top level talent, he also has incredible hunger and fitness.

I'd say he's still got a few levels before he even peaks at test cricket level.

This Hameed has some incredible patience. Has no intention of scoring runs at all. I doubt he has scored in his last 40 balls faced

Living up to the baby boycott tag so far.

England have unearthed another great plodder.

This guy is going to hit 10,000 runs. He just needs to face 80,000 balls to do it.

Horrible delivery. Even Bradman would have got out to that.. and Root nearly gets out to a similar delivery. Ball keeps dying.

My housemates girlfriend is here and he's still asleep so she's watching the cricket because I have it on sky. She keeps texting me asking why it's so boring

Well well. Should be entertaining tomorrow, surely England should now go for the result?

England are fecked now. I'd send out Moeen and let him and Root try and bat it out..

The way Duckett's been playing, Moeen will be out in a couple of overs even if not now.

I don't get you. How does Duckett's form increase Moeen's chances of getting out?

He means either way Moeen Ali will be arriving to the crease soon because Duckett is a walking wicket.

So England effectively 3 down with Duckett in the side. I think realistically if England are to have any chance Root needs to bat the whole day tomorrow.

What a huge wicket at the end. Been a while since I've last been so intensely fixated on a test match. India - England series' are always brilliant to watch - even though we've been destroyed on our last two tours here.

What are our options? I genuinely don't know.

I don't rate Jadeja in test cricket. He's an excellent player to have in T20s but test cricket needs a completely different approach.

Curious, why do you not rate Jadeja? He's brilliant in subcontinent conditions with the ball, and has a better track record than Ashwin outside of Asia. In fact, in our only away test win in God knows how long (of actual meaning - not counting WI or SL), he performed brilliantly on a green pitch at Lords - also don't forget the 6 for against SA in Durban (?).

 Harsh. England to be all out within the next 30 overs

I mean realistically what's the best you can expect from him?

I'll happily eat my words if he somehow survives but I'd back Woakes' defensive technique over his in this scenario.

think he is mentioning as an all rounder. As a pure bowler he is good, but then effectively you are playing with 5 bowlers (if you count jayant yadav as a bowler).

Ah thanks!

As @prath92 said, he's got triple hundreds on the domestic scene and every time I see him bat he throws his wicket. Today was infuriating. I can understand if Shami or Umesh get out when trying to slog. But you know your teams needs a lead of at least 400 and yet you get out to a completely pointless shot. Complete lack of application.

He's an effective bowler but he's not in the team just for his bowling.

He bats at number 8 and the reasons you state are why. I think Saha might be a slightly bigger problem. Although he hasn't woeful, he's got to be a little bit more consistent with the bat. If he's able to nudge his average up into the mid 30s, then we wont be far off a solid top 7 batting line up. Ashwin has proved his worth as one many a time.

Jadeja is a decent batsman in ODIs. Think he has some 5-10 fifties with a decent average too. In test cricket he's been woeful. As for Saha, Dhoni's boots are too big to fill. I'm afraid we'll have to go through another generation of keepers who can't bat much.

Could always have Rahul keep and have Rohit in for Saha.

Maybe it's just me but this wasn't a 87-2 in 60 overs pitch. The odd ball is keeping low but overall there's no real prodigious turn for anyone on a consistent basis. England could have feasibly chased this down batting conservatively while not going into complete block mode. The required rate was just 2.5 to begin. It feels like they've backed themselves into a corner where the only possible results are a draw or an India win. Had they scored at even 2 an over they'd be looking at less than 2 an over on the last day which is very much gettable. Well..it's still gettable (and I might end up with egg on my face if Stokes and Root play well) but the rate is a lot steeper now and their chances of putting pressure on us seems unlikely.

This one feels like a fairly comfortable win for India with us getting bowled out for 230 or so.

How is Rahul as a keeper? Hope he's not anything like Rahul Dravid. :D

Not sure if Rohit is the best choice for #6 but he'll do better than Saha on most days.

Not too sure how good he is. But it may be worth a try if Saha's batting doesnt improve.

Don't think its as easy as you are making out but agree it isn't a square turner. Hope the England batsmen play their natural game tomorrow.
