Empty Old Trafford

Can you all boycott the Bournemouth game? I'm in the UK and looking to take my son to his first game then?

I think the fans would have to be willing to push Man Utd down to the Championship if they want Glazer out. We would have to go hard against all sponsors online etc. And of course block all social media-accounts of Man Utd. A campaign like that would be tough for the club and the owner. They bought Man Utd because of the brand-value. If they understand that they are about to deteriorate that value maybe it could convince them to sell?

You would not need millions of fans either. How many negative TeamViewer-reviews on Google would make a future sponsor reconsider? Or any other brand so interested in PR that they are willing to be a sponsor?

But even then, they decide to who they sell…

Johny foreigners often got the blame for being a daytripper.

Anyone have actual facts on how many percentages of tickets sold to Johny?

Or is it only convenient when they need to be made scapegoat?

While I disagree with you on mostly every debate I've entered with you, it's good to point out that even foreign fans are actually pretty nuanced and different from family-type to single-fan-type and country to country. A lot have the same passion for the club as born and bred mancunians.

I can only speak for the danes (which is not many of the overall crowd) but a lot would probably be okay with protesting.

Sadly there’s little financial leverage to be had with an empty stadium.

That said, it’s a very hard thing to ignore when it happens. If nothing else it makes a statement but it’s infuriating when people can’t commit to doing it. Ic you dislike the Glazers that much, align and withdraw from attendance.

On a long term basis, I'm not sure about that.

50,000 (big ask) not buying a programme, food etc every week would have an impact. The lack of match ticket sales (say 20,000 each game) would eventually start to bite.

Building momentum is important here. It would be good to get an organised boycott of the cup games. Now the cup scheme is gone, nobody is forced to go. In theory, everyone could withdraw on a game by game basis

I’m sure the proponents of the boycott are not the lads who have paid for flights over to, and from Manchester, plus digs and all the road and rail travel to attend one of the biggest fixtures of the season.

Tell me why.

Because you might not like it but the Galzers are doing nothing wrong. They have a company it makes money and they take some of their money out. They have still invested more than any other owners in the game. You have the highest value squad in the history of football.

Also another reason no one will "leave" is there is zero appetite for it. DeJong thread 1450 pages this has struggled to 5

Clearly no one is expecting the tickets to be unsold. That’s just never going to happen and it’s not really a financial thing anyway. It’s a visual protest.

They have not invested any money of their own, they haven't spent a penny! The money that we have spent is of the clubs own generation.

Good way as well to divert media attention a bit and avoid them just talking about the seemingly inevitable thumping by Liverpool

Should we not just get behind the team. This is the best manager and best structure we have had in a long time. We have given it a grand total of 6 weeks before rioting. We know the club will spend money, we know the structure is gutted so it may be slow (it should be better), we know there is a great chance ETH gets a lot out of the squad we have regardless of signing this summer

No, its people and posts like this that's got Utd stuck with a shit squad and even worse owners for years,
Raise the bar the little mate, Utd are in a mess and its needs major investment and new owners,

Excellent post. We have spent £1 billion since the Glazers took over. The problem is recruitment in my humble opinion. Its embarrassing us chasing de Jong for so long. Too many fans want instant success. Ain't gonna happen. The Glazers are odious toads, but they ain't gonna sell ( even though our value has dropped by 25% apparently). The Clown Knighton ain't the answer. And would we want a Russian oligarch or Saudi Arabian taking us over?

Except the billion has been purely taken from United's coffers (as it should have been, rather than having the owner prop up the club with funds), but over £1.3bn has also gone out of the clubs coffers to service their our debt and dividends. This all could have been used to improve the training ground, stadium etc, but has been siphoned-off.

Admire the sentiment but ultimately a waste of time.
The 73rd minute walk out last year was much more publicised and a total failure.

Match day revenues are not a big deal to the Glazers, even if the stadium is 1/4 empty.

If they really want to have an impact they need to get games cancelled again

We have MUFC Supporter Club all over the whole. We can try to organize a coordinated peaceful protest all over the world. Glazers will be under a lot of pressure from sponsors and maybe ultimately forced to sell.

Unless it impacts them financially in a major way, they won't care. All the stuff with sponsors has been tried before.

This needs to go up a level and will ultimately rely solely on matchgoing fans.

I'll again point out that no fan group are behind this or pushing it. While that's the case this simply exists as a Twitter noise floating around.

Personally and from what I hear, I think it will stay that way. But don't rule out another form of protest at the game via the 1958 group / TRA etc.

Why cant we do all of the above, its not a case of take one option. You've no idea what repurcussions walkouts would do to them. They gave into fanshare due to overwhelming fan opinion/movement
You can and i would if I was a season ticket holder, but I'm not, the only thing I can do is as mentioned. UTD apparently have 100 thousands members or so who pay hoping for tickets , If those STOP that puts a dent into the Glazers. Plus do not buy official merchandise which I haven't for long time.

same, i dont spend a penny on merch, or food/drink in OT. I think the modern merch is snide cheap stuff anyway.

After recently buying a cheese and onion panini at Old Trafford I can confirm it sucked beyond belief. So so bland.

However, I was warned the beet was an absolute rip off. In actual fact, it was like 3 or 4 quid for a full beer. In London that just doesn’t happen haha so I was quite excited.

Tbh I don’t think that small stuff will make an impact. Big protests might. I seem to remember it was only the delayed Liverpool game that got Joel to talk to the fans?

Yep, agreed.

It needs fans to stop buying tickets, stop buying merch, unfollow United on twitter and post negative reviews of all sponsors.

Let's hope people do.

You are wrong. This particular team clearly doesn’t give a shit about fans .A stadium devoid of home fans for a game against our biggest rivals makes a statement.
Would glazers care though? That’s what we need to think because my point is that it’s not hurting their pockets but it’s hurting our game’s result. And glazers don’t care about the results as long as they get money.

Lets be clear every owner who has to deal with an empty stadium will start thinking, I don't doubt that but it has to be sustained for an entire season.

Last time I went to OT I walked off with 2 hot chocolate I didn't pay for, so that realy hurt them. I haven't been since 2012 I think last time I went because I won't renew my membership. .just maybe I will one day renew and go again.

An empty Old Trafrord? It wont happen.

At least 60% of fans in every United match at OT are just there to watch the game, to enjoy the day, they dont even know the Glazers are.

But yes, the Stretford End can be empty as they are United supporters and know whats going on.

An empty SE can send the message to the Glazers, at least it would be embarrasing for them.

You've got this very wrong. Match-going fans are very clued up on all matters United. I'm sure you're just guessing the percentages without much thought or science behind your claim.

PS: Stretford End is no longer what it was a few years back. Many of those fans have now moved to the singing section or the standing area.

Do it, it will send a message. Things should happen untill they sell. Be creative!

Empty seats won’t do anything. need to disrupt the games to get any attention. Look what charlton used to do, throw tennis balls, pigs etc.. onto the pitch to delay games. Held a funeral for the owner.

. 6.30 mins onwards

I've been connecting with 22 Aug protesters vs Liverpool at home on Twitter. I covered protests in the US for over a decade. I'd love to be in Manchester for this but it would cost something like $6K

Ugh can't afford that but wish I could.

They have not invested any money of their own, they haven't spent a penny! The money that we have spent is of the clubs own generation.

But you do realise it is their money. MUFC is their business so it's their money.

The fans are the customers simple as that we might not like that but thats how it is.
