Gaming Elden Ring - Fromsoftware

Thought the difficulty of this game, for the most part, was really well done for players to find their own way. The summons can turn multiple failed boss attempts into a quick victory if the player chooses to use them and if you're stuck in one area (e.g., Margit) you go away, find better gear, level up and beat him. If you're a hardcore player you can make your own decision on what is fair.

Later game areas are nightmarish though and too much of a difficulty spike. I would never have been able to platinum the game if I had not used the summons and spammed the hell out of poison/rot moves.
Malick is destroying me on Ng+ with my blood build. First try I got him down to 1 percent health but on all the other tries I haven't got close.

But those are the very last bosses and should be hard. I can guarantee you, fans of the franchise would be furious and/or devastated if you could just slap them around on your first try. In fact, the punishing nature (and the huge rush after overcoming a challenge) of this game is one of the cornerstones of its popularity. I can guarantee you that adding difficulty sliders would upset a lot more people than leaving them out would

Also, with the open world nature of this game its already challenging enough to get the balance right, without the added complexity of difficulty sliders. If you are truly stuck then you have loads of options. You can farm to level up, you can upgrade your weapons, you can respecc, you can upgrade spirit ashes and if all else fails, you can summon another player with an OP build who just demolishes the boss while you stand in the back and take sips from your flasks

Lastly, if you made it all the way to the last bosses, but still find the difficulty/gameplay unappealing then you're just a stubborn fool imo.

Personally I don't think the game needs a difficulty slider - summons has always been the way to make the bosses easier, and knowledge of the game has been the way to make the general levels easier. So you can make it easier, but you still need to engage with the game on its own terms. Im fine with that.

However I think the end game bosses in this particular game have a degree of bullshit not seen in other games, so in a way I don't think this game is the best example of their philosophy. It really needs rebalancing late game. It feels like DS2 in that it stops being a challenge, and starts feeling like a long series of tricks designed to trip you up.

I can give you a hint on how to beat it but it’s quite spoilerific. When I figured out how to do it literally laughed out loud alone like a psychopath because of how it easy it was.

Yeah, go for it.

I've got him into his second phase a few times just by upgrading that sword you get at the beginning and spamming the powerful attack that seems to stun him.

Oh wait...

That sword was the trick to beating him  Make sure you are spamming the weapon art it comes witth and you can also use it from a distance so you don't even have to get up close. Also, if you have Mimic Tear use that and you'll destroy him in no time.

The lore in this game is second to none

So deep and layered

Obviously the video is a joke but yes, the lore is deep.

Outer gods at war with each other, pawns using pawns using pawns etc.

Ranni the Witch is central to a lot of what happened, both her birth and the events leading up to it, and her choices.

There's a story?

But seriously, I'm siding with Ranni because she's giving off a "Burn it all down" vibe and I agree with it.

Feck the "Seek grace, thou'est become'est the Elden'est Lord'est" gobbledygook.

There are a few variations on the burn it down vibe.

Flame of Frenzy, Loathesome Dung Eater and Ranni.

The Elden Lord shit is a manipulation of the Golden Order and the Greater Will, that a few factions do try to take ownership of

It's not a joke, you just need to talk to that NPC, hit that wall 7 times and fire bomb the turtle pope up the arse.

Ah right - fair enough!

Yeah, I put my shield away and use the L2 trigger which does a huge amount of damage. I've got him to his second phase a few times, but when I need to replenish my FP, the fecker always takes the opportunity to strike. I think I may be a little under-leveled because he's basically one-shotting me on some attacks. I'm close to doing it though. A few more tries later and I should do it...hopefully

There's an even cheesier way. Put on the flamedrake talisman and just go right up to him, you'll be stepping in the lava but will take very little fire damage. Just keep chipping away at him and he can't reach you. Hilariously satisfying.

Just killed Morgott and died at the same time  very anticlimactic and I’m not sure what items I picked up but I can probably work them out from my inventory.

Tbh, it's probably more likely that I was over-levelled as I imagine even with the sword as it's supposed to be a chellenge, which it was not in the slightest for me.

His remembrance, which can be traded for the Morgott's cursed sword, a weapon which actually pairs quite nicely with the bloodhound fang if you're still using that.

I am. I have a Blood Dismounter +22 at this point though. Is it worth getting and upgrading? How do I trade the rememberance? I’ve been mostly duplicating and selling them but I think I’ve used up all the mausoleums so far.

I’ve gone back to Alecto multiple times now and feck me he is impossible. Barely take any health out of him and yet I just took out Morgott in 6 hits.

There's a way to cheese him if you like. It involves backing him into a corner where he's stuck and you just poke at him until he dies. It's on youtube.

It honestly depends on your build. Morgott's requires a fair bit of arcane and scales well for bleed builds. Otherwise your dismounter is fine. As for trading the remembrance just go to the creep old lady in the roundtable hold (the one by the giant two fingers), you can trade your remembrances there.

So that manor in the capital is connected to The Roundtable Hold? Exact replica except abandoned.

It was all going so well for me until Elden Beast. I’ve barely got any hits in him with my melee build and am getting wiped out in one or two hits whether I fight close or try keep a distance. The fact I have to fight radagon each time before even getting a shot at him is a double pain.

I just beat him today to get the ashes @Kaos was talking about. Unsheathe attacks with a katana were a big help as you can hit him from a safe-ish distance. The heavy attack interrupts him as well so it's a safe hit and run. I barely used my regular attack. If you hit him when he's in the air, you can knock him down and get in a few extra slashes. And just make sure to run like hell whenever he does that massive red jumping thing.

Yeah I just cheesed him.

Beat the ulcerated tree spirit in the lake of rot finally too so I’ve got nothing left that got the better of me. It’s onwards to the mountains of giants now. Just beat the ice dragon.

Have you done deeprock depths?

Also have fun in mountaintop of giants, its the turning point where the game really decides to bend you over and spit on you

My least favourite boss fight quite possibly. Annoyingly the first part was quite cool. Two separate bosses would have been better.

In fact, the entire two phase thing was well overdone in this game.

Deeproot depths? Yeah did that.

I remember reading about pipes under the capital though. Should I do that?

The lyndell catacombs? Yeah worth doing I'd say if you haven't done so already. There's also Auriza Hero's grave on the capital outskirts but honestly feck that place, a real AIDS festival of everything awful with no worthwhile reward for your troubles.

So I've beaten Radahn, and Rennala, and extensively explored Limgrave and Liurnia. I've done a slight bit of running around Caelid and Altus Plateau. Which of those two areas should I be doing next, or is there somewhere else to go? I'm level 72 I think.

This game is overwhelming even by FromSoft standards.

Two things that make me want to tear my hair out about this game 1. The camera angles when you're fighting in a closed environment (Can't see shit) 2. This cnut taking 10 years to sip a potion

Have you done Siofra or Ansel River?

Commander Niall was underwhelming. Had him dead in 2 goes. What’s the next really tough boss? I’m just heading to the consecrated snowfield. They must be coming soon surely! I need the pain.

Yeah I've gone through Siofra, lit the towers and did the boss. I have been to the Ansel area but haven't done much there.

I’d say do Ansel, both north and south bits.

If you are heading to consecrated snowfield then be careful what you wish for.

The Putrid Crystalians in Sellia Hideaway are wrecking my head.

Haven't shouted at a game since dropping Fifa years ago but these cnuts have brought that habit back.

Performance is so poor on PC (for me at least).

Slowdowns in the middle of boss fights are fecking infuriating. Making the game unplayable sadly.

Have you got a striking weapon like a hammer? Makes light work of them. Likewise for a gravity spell like rock sling.
