Gaming Elden Ring - Fromsoftware

I'm thirty hours in and only defeated the first major boss at the end of the first castle. I've pretty much wrapped up Limgrave and put a dent into a few of the minor bosses in the lake area north of that. I'm loving this game. First game I've played from this developer and I was worried about the difficulty, particularly when that tree knight wanker kept pumping me, but sticking it out and developing a play style and leveling up is so rewarding. Great game.

This Starscourge Radahn guy is kicking my arse. I feel like I may be under-leveled. But who knows. Perhaps he's just a dick.

You can use dragon spell, rotten breath On him by sneaking up to him when he is fighting the friends then stay away, 2 applies does it for each phase. Assuming that your build can run that spell of course.

How does this game compare to The Witcher 3, The Wild Hunt?

Better, worse, harder, easier, etc...

Yeah, that's the trouble. I haven't got enough points in faith to do it. I may just have to grind for it.

As a pure melee build I couldn't particularly see a way to stay in melee range without going splat, so I just stayed on the horse the whole fight riding around getting the summons back, preferably staying the other side of the little hill he starts on to avoid his ranged stuff as well.

On low hp, the summons stop coming back, so I just finished him off with a few throwing knives before the last of them died. For the meteor attack, I just kept sprinting on the horse in any direction after he disappears and it doesn't home in enough to get you.

The portal behind Marika 3 church is a decent low grind 1k a mob, and mohg island is great high end grind spot.

I smashed him to bits with meteoric staff and rockslide, worked well also. He is a mess for melee with medium gear. But that's what makes it so fun i guess.

Yeah, I'm running on my horse like a madman now. I'm getting his health down quite far. Way below halfway. But there's so much RNG in this fight. It really is bullshit.

I'm also getting one-shotted which Is why I think I may be under-leveled.

Selvius ...I can't kill patches. Wouldn't be right

Weird thing, i gave the witch her quest item and went back to him and found him dead. Saved me the trouble I guess...I assume the witch did it or there is some lore I missed. He didn't seem particularly well liked by anyone and didn't seem trustworthy

Incidentally, the sword you get from killing him nets you 40-60k runes every 30 seconds at the goblins at Mohg entry point. One heavy to suck them in one to end and repeat.

I was quite jealous of his hat and quite happy to relieve him of it.

Way harder, but I usually play games on 'normal' if not 'easy' these days as I have kids and don't have have the time to grind through them (I did Last of Us 2 on the easiest level because I just wanted to see the story). Witcher 3 also has cities full of NPCS whereas the Elden Ring world is massive but just full of enemies and a few scattered NPCs. I did not like the game at first, I thought it was wayyy too hard. But there are ways to farm runes which helps you get a bit stronger and last a few more shots.

It's harder, but it's mainly a different type of game.

In the Witcher, the centrepiece is the story and the side quests and the RPG elements, and the combat is pretty average. In this, the story and RPG side of things is pretty bare bones, but the combat is a hundred times more engaging than the Witcher, and the focus of the whole game.

You can find a talisman to give you five extra points in faith, and can use the great rune you got from Godrick + a Rune Arc to give you five more temporarily.

Oh yeah, of course you can! I forgot about that. I actually own it.

Doesn't matter now anyway, cause I've finally beat the prick!

Cheers!

There's always one boss in these games who I find just absolute bullshit. And I think this was one of them. He was driving me nuts.
He Mario's melee players for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and snack on the corpses for fun so well played! His sword is awesome!

I think I'm just getting old. I used to relish the challenge of Soulsborne games (I platinum'd Bloodborne because I couldn't stop playing it!) but this is just frustrating me.

At the academy now. Didn’t expect to be fighting the Burger King guy.

Picked the mimic up that people keep saying is overpowered… it definitely is but I bloody love it

I’ve battered a lot of bosses this evening, including that Void cnut near Lake of Rot.

Ill definitely avoid using it on a second playthrough, but for now I’m gonna slaughter my way through the game.

Out of interest, what’s the hardest boss in the game?

Ansel? Ruined him too with my mimic tear +10, first go, and I could tell he'd have been a nightmare as a melee without it. I dunno, maybe I should stop using it

Pretty sure Melania is supposed to be the toughest, optional late game boss.

Is Rennala meant to be a piece of piss? I’ve fought more difficult lobsters.

Yeah he's a cnut

Is that from the one you get for killing Rykard? It looked cool but for some reason i'm not spending my boss souls yet...i can never make up my mind which one weapon/spell i want to make. I would also like to get the platinum for this game at some point and haven't looked into the requirements.

As for my own faith character, she's already turning to the dark side a bit with eating all those dragon hearts. Also there's one NPC i really do fancy killing- just for fun and because he's annoying.

Yep, from Rykard. There is a way to spend a boss souls twice though..

Those big churches with feet? You can bring them down by hitting some crystals on their legs. Once they are down you can go inside and copy any rememberance

Hes a real bastard. First phase is not to bad, but second phase he goes completely mental

Hes weak to Scarlet rot though, so in his second phase, either do a Dragon breath on him or shoot him with scarlet rot arrows/bolts. If you manages to get the status on him, it does thousands of damage

Patch incoming - mimic tear is nerfed

They are adding some UX things and fixes to scaling etc. As well as other bugs.

Also some balancing of spells.

No news on performance upgrades though

Patch notes:

Good patch imo, more buffs than nerfs. Surprised Moonveil survived, but other than that they just clipped most of the cheat modes. Surprised they made shields more effective though, they're already v powerful. Will be interesting to see if the farm spots survive.

Yeah if they consider Blood Slash overpowered, moonveil should be nerfed too.

I'll probably be changing which twin blade I use now that the scaling on arcane non physical damage is fixed

I love that you can add NPC names to the map, something I really wanted. Wonder if that can be set as automatic?

It was fun while it lasted:(

The mimic tear nerf isn't as bad as I thought it would be tbh, they just nerfed its damage but a +10 mimic will still be a ridiculously tanky boi that will hold aggro and apply status effects, which is what makes them strong IMO. Its just at a point now where it can no longer solo bosses, so you actually have to hit something

Surprised Moonveil wasn't nerfed, but again its melee's crutch at the moment, I would have liked them to make pure STR builds more viable in end game, especially with some of the stupidly fast bosses.

They nerfed barricade shield which is what made that playstyle super strong.
