Okay the crucible Knight paired with the warrior in redmane Castle is ridiculous.

I can nearly take down the warrior but then the Knight shows up with infinite poise and a fast dash attack and neither dodging or guarding can save me

A decent levelled spirit summon is the key to that, i think i used wolves lock the 1st boss in aggro with them and just go all out assault and get him killed before the knight gets a chance to get near you the rest is just taking your time from then.

I saw people saying the sword of night and flame was overpowered. Used it to beat three bosses and thought 'yeah it's a good sword, but I'm only doing 150 damage per strike'. Had completely forgotten about the ash of war function. When I suddenly used it the game is now ruined. It's so OP, I keep trying to force myself not to use it, but if I haven't beaten a boss in like 10 goes without it, I juts go in and cheese the fight. They need to fix it because I can't stop myself from using it and only 2 or so bosses have still remained a challenge even with its power.

Don't try drugs.

Yeah its the ashes/weapon arts that break the game mostly.

Same goes for the moonveil katana. On its own its a pretty average katana with meh base damage, then you use the transient moonlight ability and realise you have a button to delete bosses.

I don't mind it as much, like you I just choose not to use those weapons (though I am being a little cheeky using the bloodhound fang which is also borderline broken). The issue is in the PVP meta, where it seems everyone is using a bloodhound/moonveil/SoNaF, and if you use anything else you're pretty much boned.

I don't really get the ash of war stuff. Someone explain it to me....is it like a buffer you can apply to weapons? Does it last until you die or a set amount of time?

It's a special move you activate with the left trigger, it costs FP which is limited and replenished via flask or resting at sites of grace.

I beat Radahn on maybe my 7th go, as a melee user. Honestly didn't think he was THAT bad in the end considering all I'd heard about him. I still reckon Margit is the boss that's given me the most problems

Ah right. I misread and thought he meant activating ashes on the sword of night and flame. That sword has special moves built in so I assume the ashes don't work on it but the ashes give similar attributes to bog standard weapons?

His difficulty is overrated I think. The fight becomes relatively trivial if you choose to summon and if you use any scarlet rot debuff.

Even if you fight him solo, its just a case of dodging his arrows, and then going HAM on him up close, he's not that hard to stagger or bleed tbh.

I'm not sure about that particular weapon but on others you can swap in/out ashes of war at sites of grace once you get the item to do it. Blacksmith can also do it I think.

Yeah I saw that option for the Blacksmith at Roundtable Hold. So if you add one to a weapon it holds until you swap it back out? Interesting.

I picked it up again after a break and switched playstyle to a halbert and the Jellyfish greatshield. This game is so much easier with a shield. Almost seems like cheating.

Just hit lvl 141 just got to the mountain of the giants just messing around with a bit of co op for now

You can get 100% physical shields with really low stat requirements right from the outset, so it feels like they want everyone to have access to one. The fact you can boost them with Ashes of War makes it even more of a no brainer to have one somewhere in your inventory.

Feel like I'm nearing the end so I've started using guides to find all the optional stuff I missed out on. There is A LOT.

I'm at Radahn at level 68, anyone reckon I'm under-levelled? The dude just wrecks me but maybe I'm approaching it wrong. He seems random like you benefit or lose from the RNG... like a good few bosses so far.

I was level 75ish so you probably are a little bit at least. But he could still wreck me if I let him. There is a bit of a knack too him. It’s not that hard if you make sure to get all the summons along the way and avoid those arrows at the start.

I think some guides say lvl 80. Get all the summons though and avoid the arrows at beginning.

Tried the summons and they don't do jack, just tickle him with a feather. Perhaps I'll come back later!

Switched to a moonveil and meteoric sword build. Holy shit!
Ugh should've done this. Just used a 2nd larval tear to respec to moonveil and sword of night and flame, which is great, but I'm not high enough level to make good use of it yet. Should've just let it sit and gone dual katana and then invest in faith to get that sword at a later part of the game.

Its stupidly broken. Basically spam transient moonlight to win the game, and use that AoE sword spell to delete packs of enemies. That loretta's greatbow attack or whatever its called has stupid range on it too. Can easily cheese a lot of enemies and bosses with it.

I switched back to my bloodhound quality build because it was too easy. And personally I found bloodhound finesse a more fun art.

I’m in love with this game tbh. 35 hours in and I feel I’ve barely done anything.

Finished mountain of the giants I presume if I carry on the main story I’m right at the end.

maxed all my weapons level 153 gonna go try malenia.

Same. I know for a fact i've missed a lot despite exploring loads of optional dungeons and marking everything of interest on the map. On the one hand it's a sign of a really detailed game that's been made with a lot of care, on the other hand it's fecking annoying how i've missed NPCs who were apparently 'right there' all along.

...and i still don't know how to get into that underground city with the big wolf guy whose just leaving it up to me to find the way. Gonna have to look it up.

is it me or does the game get significtantly harder after Radahn? I dunno if i'm going to the wrong areas or not but i'm getting fecking wrecked by loads of enemies now. Those catacombs to the north of Radahn with all the invisible knights are HORRIFIC[/spoiler]

Don't think I went to that specific dungeon, but north Caelid/Dragonbarrow (if that's where this place is) is much higher level than the rest of Caelid, and is a close to endgame zone, about the same as Mountaintops of the Giants.

That could explain it. I haven’t found where to go instead though. Back towards the north of the map maybe? I just managed to kill the Godskin apostle and active Radhans rune but it was very tough.

I progressed Ranni’s quest as far as Noksella and that felt too high level too.

It's in mistwood after you beat Radhan.
