Gaming Elden Ring - Fromsoftware

I found the shield absolutely invaluable at the start but as I've gotten better at rolling and dodging I use it a lot less now. It's really helpful for finding your feet early on but bosses hit so hard after a while that it can become a bit irrelevant sometimes.

Yeah I am using a shield...why that something to roll your eyes at?

It's an old DS meme mocking people who think you can only play it with a shield. He's messing with you a little ;) Parrying is perhaps the most legit tactic to master a souls game though, so carry a buckler!

Speaking of which, one thing I like about this game that many probably don't know, is you can't just parry bosses straight up anymore. It seems to build up, like the posture damage in sekiro (and indeed power attacks in this), which makes it a little more fun and skilled. Still not too difficult to pull off once you practice though.

Just beat the witch at the academy of magic thingy. First half of the fight I was thinking this is kinda whack, loved the second half though even if I did kill her pretty easily.

Everybody knows that the only proper way to play From Software games is using a drum controller and never changing from your starting equipment.

Just kidding mate, hope you enjoy the game!
Ahh I get you, sorry! So confused by the game I didn't even pick up on your sarcasm  thought I should be dual wielding or something.

Next thing you'll be telling me you've got armour on.

Hahah ok, ok I get it now. Just been so bamboozled I wasn't sure! Loving what I've played so far. Don't mind a difficult game either, been recently making good progress with Returnal, which to me is a challenging one. But there's a difference in difficult and just not-knowing if yous see what you mean. Coming straight into this after finishing Forbidden West, and this has honestly grabbed me much more. Whilst I feel lost and don't know what to do and get beat down if I wander into the wrong area, it's this that makes me want to jump back in and find out!

Am I only who's character raises his fist in victory everytime I press triangle? It does my head in.

I’m on the dual crucible knights to unlock one of the better armour sets the fights a pain think I need to go back and progress a bit further in the capital so I can get the stuff to make my mimic +10.

Come close a few times but as with all from software games the dual bosses are always a bit random/luck based.

I took @Kaos advice and got a secondary weapon with bleed to match the bloodhound fang and I’m destroying nearly everything it’s great.

few more levels and I will have strength and Dex at 50 then not sure where I’m going from there, hp is already huge maybe some more endurance for bigger stamina.Tempted to do some more points in mind to abuse the totally broken Ashes of War on the fang.

You could pump arcane to increase bleed build up, otherwise some mind won't hurt.

Anyone playing this on PS4? How is it?

And how would you compare the difficulty (in levels and at bosses) to the other FROM titles?

Havent touched this game in about a week. Sort of makes me sad that I fell out of love with the formula. Darksouls 1, Bloodborne and Sekiro are some of my favourite games of all time, but this just, I dunno, annoys me. The type of difficulty is tedious more than clever.

It's a good game for sure, just dont love it and went back to playing Suikoden 2 :wenger:

Suikoden 2 over almost any game to be fair.

It's a bit laggy, the loading times are kinda long. But it's still a beautiful amazing game. I'm 40 hours in and discovering plenty of new areas and enemies.

The thing about difficulty is there is still the from soft difficulty scale but because of the open world you can kinda do whatever you want first. I'd think of it like a huge map with lvl 1-99 enemies all over and you get to pick where you want to go and what level you want to be at when you get there.

Practically every time I'm trying to rest at a site if grace.

The control scheme has never been particularly intuitive in FS games. Took me long enough to work out how to equip and use items in your pouch as well.

So I've stopped exploring and opening up the map and started playing the game properly now.

Polished off that Tree Sentinel in the first area, whatever the feck that was in the first dungeon after avoiding that stupid chariot on the way down and Margit who was a bit spicy wasn't he.

Had an absolute mare on Stormveil Castle last night in the section where you have to go past 3 birds throwing exploding barrels, several big knights, a sub boss and then a whole courtyard full of dickheads with crossbows and a giant. Honestly I just legged it through that courtyard with barely a slither of health to get to the next site of grace. Bit unforgving that section. Had one confrontation with Godrick before bed and almost had him first go. He seems eeasier than Margit at least so I'll bag him up later on.

FromSoft bosses are the absolute business. Love the little intro's.

Did you manage to kill that Chariot. I was in that dungeon but I left because while I think I know how to kill it, I don't think I had the weapon to do it.

75 hours in, still really enjoying it but i'd argue that sometimes, despite the glowing directional light at the grace sites, it's kind of hard to know how to advance the game and take on the big bosses. I've taken a really weird route into the most northern part of the map that doesn't seem like the way you're supposed to get there, and despite having made some accomplishments in the East i'm locked out of certain areas for some reason.

Freely admit these could be instances of me stupidly missing something or not taking on board information because of my own idiocy :wenger:

Nah I just kept ducking into the sides to avoid. Didn't even know you could kill it tbh. What do you think you needed to do?

Well Caelid is an absolute hellhole.
 pretty sure you're there way too early.

Also..

I'll put it in a spoiler just in case people don't want to know.

As you progress through the dungeon, you will eventually find yourself above the chariot on a platform looking down on it. Above one of the slopes it goes down, is something hanging from the ceiling that you can shoot if you have a bow and arrow. Timing it just right, it will fall on the chariot and kill it. I didn't have a bow at the time, though.

Ah I did notice them but like you don't have the equipment needed. They suck to use in FS games as well so I usually avoid them.

That's because it's not as good as DS 1/3, BB or Sekiro. It's a backwards step and it panders to the OW crowd. The engine and game design is demonstrably DS2, yet people want to ignore those issues and the backwards step.

I guarantee to those who disagree, down the line the bosses/moments in this won't be remembered among the memorable moments of the souls series. Oh and speaking of which, funny how this has now reverted to DS4 and that useless lump of flesh GRR is no longer hyped to be part of it.

This is my first game in the series so I’ve no loyalty to it but this is like the 4th time I’ve seen you say the same thing  I think people get it.

Godrick is a little bitch. Just killed him first attempt.

Yeah, I put him down as well. Although, I've done so much exploring I was probably over-leveled. And I've got one particular spell that absolutely destroyed him.

Redlanbs is just upset that he’s such a picky bitch and isn’t enjoying it like the rest of us.

100% true. I am picky, and I am a bitch. I wish I was enjoying it like you depraved.

It's not about being picky though, I'm just more perplexed that this share so many traits with DS2 yet the people who bang on about that being trash don't get it. This game just isn't that good, it's okay but a bit of a been there done it before backwards step. Like the new Batman movie, it panders to a certain crowd whilst pretending to be some kind of new direction.

Using the golden effigy to help people tonight instead of trying to progress. Feels nice to help people starting out.

You are absolutely tanning this game! Feel like you’ve been on it none stop based on this thread

It’s true! I play a lot at night but also work has been quiet so I’m playing a lot at the min. Great game though.

Its not entirely like DS2 though. It does share certain cheap difficulty modifiers, but it doesn't have the trash dodging mechanic in DS2, nor are the boss battles anywhere near as slow.

Okay the crucible Knight paired with the warrior in redmane Castle is ridiculous.

I can nearly take down the warrior but then the Knight shows up with infinite poise and a fast dash attack and neither dodging or guarding can save me

Knew i shouldn't have hugged that hussy!!! I gave in eventually as i wondered if i'd be missing out on something if i didn't, which was sort of true. Things have been happening with the NPCs a fair bit.

Radahn boss battle
Was a very cool looking fight and a great spectacle but it was kind of gimmicky. I did cheese it by summoning in all of the characters as I thought the game kind of expected me to. I'm sure there's some guy on YouTube who has done it with no NPCs, no damage or did it blindfolded or something, but whatever!

The fight is designed to include them. I also beat it tonight.

Not sure I agree at all, having played every Soulsborne game multiple times I certainly feel this is a great game.

The rehashing of side bosses for mini dungeons isn’t great though I will admit.

That mechanic might be fun if, like in Sekiro, we could actually have a visual indicator of 'posture' build-up. Though I'm not sure. Parrying is insanely high risk - I parried Morgott once but with this mechanic it's not worth the risk to stand in front of his deadly combos.

I unmapped every single gesture for this reason. The only way to avoid salty gestures.
