Gaming Elden Ring - Fromsoftware

We really need a pause button. They had one in Sekiro, I thought they might keep it for future games, but nope. I get that they don't want you to be able to pause the game to be able to gain an advantage, but sometimes you have to answer the door, or pick up the phone or whatever. If you're 3/4 of the way through a difficult boss and have to just let yourself die because someone is knocking on, its super annoying.

Easy mode - comet azur?
I'm pretty sure the pause thing is because of the online mode which Sekiro didn't have. Of course it shouldn't be a huge software engineering challenge to allow pause when you aren't being invaded or doing jolly cooperation but From Software aren't known for their technical expertise.

I just nearly beat Margit but right when his health was low the sun came out and fecking beamed pure light onto my screen and into my eyes and I couldn’t see shit.

Felt pretty nerdy to be angry at a celestial body for fecking up my game.

Yeah, that doesn't really feel like insurmountable challenge to be honest. As you say, simply block pause while invaded/coop.

You can save and quit though.

You can and I do because I'm used to it but let's face it, not being able to pause is more of an odd quirk we've come to accept rather than a legitimate feature with an actual reason for existing. It's not surprising that players coming from other games find it tough to accept it.

Yeah, true.

I notice that Elden Ring has retained the odd feature/glitch/quirk from previous From games with Save & Quit.
If you quit then reload, all the live enemies return to their starting locations and lose their aggro, but the dead enemies stay dead. So if you get cornered and look like you might die, quit and reload, and the enemies will all have forgotten you. A common speedrun technique.

Ain't a from soft game if it isn't broken at several places.

I beat Margit on my third try! I think it helps that I had read how hard it was and tried to prepare as much as possible.

I used the rotten stray ashes to try and aggro him and turned out they made him bleed. I noticed it wasn’t stopping so I just tried to avoid him until it was low and get safe hits in when I could.

Draconian Tree Sentinel is some bullshit.

And having to press an extra couple of buttons in the middle of a fight to respawn your horse is also some bullshit.

Last night I went into that fogged-off area right at the beginning of the game. The place where you have to use one of those keys. Bullshit area. There's some sort of fecking chariot thing riding about in it. I did get past it, but there's some other bullshit in there as well. Anyway, I'll have to come back to that later. I couldn't be bothered to deal with it last night!

good rewards for doing the area though.

I got two equipment items I currently use. Plus another usage item that boosts your character.

Not posted in this thread so far - just beat Radahn last night, absolutely insane and going from first attempting it (and getting wrecked easily) through to actually managing to best it felt like a real achievement.

Long time Soulsborne fan having got full completions on the previous games in the different series, weirdly I'd disagree with the majority in the thread as I think this is actually my favorite Fromsoft release so far (previously I was much more aligned to Dark Souls rather than BB/Sekiro though so that could be why?). The scope of the world and the sheer number of boss fights just does it for me; it feels like a real step up from their previous games.

Horse combat is wonky as hell though I'll admit.

I should fecking hope so!

I'll go back there tonight when I jump on for an hour or two. It was late last night, and between that thing buzzing about, and getting set on fire down that corridor, I was losing my mind. I did beat Godrick though.

Yeah, fecking hell. Yes, I want my horse back instead of a confirmation window where the default option is No!

The amount of times I've had a combo of accidentally jumping off my horse and then crouching. Or running away and realising I'm crouching.

All the fecking time except, of course, when I actually want to jump off the horse. Then I have to keep pressing that stick like a demented fighter pilot.

You're fat rolling, which is making the game harder for you.

Drop your equip load so its at down to medium load either by unequipping a weapon you don't need, dropping armour for lighter armour pieces, or getting a talisman that increases your equip load. You'll find it much easier to dodge.

Also having to keep running in a direction and somehow call your horse requires stupid hand contortion. Your left thumb is focused on the stick and you can't take it off so you've got to pull a finger up to the d-pad whilst also remembering to press triangle first.

I have felt like I got slower at dodging. I was trying to up my poise because it was annoying being stunned and then not being able to do anything whilst my guy laid down and got obliterated.

I sold the rest of my armour so I'll have to look for something else I guess! I don't have much in my load. Only one weapon in the right hand and a bow/torch/shield in the left.

That chariot is a bastard.

I am using the seal and the talisman from there, plus the golden seed is a nice bonus too.

My character is a dragon commune faith/ arcane bleed build at the moment dual wielding grossmessers, but with a shield as back up.

The trouble is the bow AND shield adds to your weight. Unequip whichever one you aren't using as much. You pretty much beat Margit by just rolling, so you might not even need the shield (you're using twinblades so I assume you're a dex build? They dont need to use shields as much). Otherwise don't be afraid to just unequip a smaller armour piece like your helmet or gauntlets, it won't hurt you that much.

I'd also advise you not to sell armour or weapons. The runes you get for them are pretty meagre and you never know when you might want to use them, especially if you respec later on.

Cheers for the advise! I've put most of my specs into Dex, HP and Strength I think. I did start off wanting to be quite nimble but then I saw about the block counter thing so thought that could be useful. Dodging does seem to be better though if I can get quicker.

He's actually silly tough for a first story boss. Still probably the toughest boss I've encountered.
Go to the blabla grave of something and fight the two crucible knight bros. Then laugh at the pitiful weakness of Margit. And then cry because there is no way anyone will ever beat them.

Anyone tried the Moonveil katana? I've been using a +12 Uchigatana until now. Was wondering if it's worth respecing and increasing my intelligence to use the Moonveil.

Not used it but heard that the unique weapon skill is really broken on Moonveil

Nice work there :) well done!

Its only the most overpowered weapon in the game, broken af.

After 86 hours I finally finished the game.

I must admit, and obviously spoilers ahead so don't open if you still playing:

The ending was a bit lame. For all that work to end so quickly and with no added story just didn't go down so well for me. Not sure what I was expecting, though. If anything, I LOVED the journey getting there, so that's where I got joy from, whereas the ending was like they just slapped on something quick. I went and checked out the different endings, and they all give off the same vibe, I think the journey going to the ending is what makes it. I ended up going with Ranni's ending, simple because Corhyn was already dead by the time I learnt that that was an alternative ending, and it looked the best of the lot personally. But no way in hell I'm starting the game over just to see the journey on how to get that ending unlocked.

I see you completed it @Gehrman
What's your thoughts?

I'm at a boss called Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella and it's a right bastard. Huge AOE attacks and at times it feels unfair how he just catches you.

I got him down to 1 hp and he caught me with the tip of his finger...
