Gaming Elden Ring - Fromsoftware

No spoilers but where did you all go after beating Godrick? The far east (red skies) seems too much for me at the moment, and i'm at a pretty decent level (50)

Quick resumed on my Xbox, or so I thought only to be welcomed by the Bandai Namco opening. Booted my save up and lost 6 levels (and god knows what else I done during that time)

Serves me right for relying on the quick resume I guess…

I ventured north after Godrick. If you haven’t already, maybe check out South of Limgrave.

Caelid in the east is hard for me at Lvl 33. I can just about get by some of the enemies but it’s a slog. Some of the enemies in there are hard as feck.

Thanks. I have decided to go north. I did an underground detour that led to a boss battle that took a lot of leveling up but the area doesn't/didn't seem to lead to a major boss.

Just beat Godrick and sorted that Great Rune business out and equipped that. The fight wasn't that bad. Managed to beat him on my third try. Venturing north now.

The tree sentinel guy looks similar to Gyobu from Sekiro or is that wrong? People who've played that shouldn't have much trouble vs these guys.
Hey, give me Sekiro's mobility and his grapple, and just Sekiro's combat in general and I won't complain.
I would mind Rennala so much if it wasn't for having to do that stupid ass first bit over and over again to get to the actual good 2nd part, especially with such a long run back.
Yeah. The second phase was quite stupid but it would have been a lot less irritating if not for all the running around to find singing feckers before. And why on Earth didn't they put a grace in that big empty courtyard with the lift? Perfect location. Or at least a Stake of Marika.

Follow the arrows on the graces. Never struggled knowing where to go so far.

Whether you are ready to go there yet… that’s another question.

I thought this was a bit like Demon's Souls where, you're very welcome to try certain areas and conquer them but god help you for doing harder areas first

If you haven't already, go do all of weeping peninsula to the south. After that do Liurnia in the North. You're overlevelled for WP but some of the bosses there drop some very nice loot so worth going, and you're about the right level for Liurnia which I'm currently doing (im lvl 52, and its comfortable for me so far).

Yeah that was weird considering the graces were pretty reasonable up until that point. Still I had her beaten in maybe 3 or 4 goes? So not bad. I think the bloodhounds fang might be completely OP because since Stormveil ended I’ve felt like I’ve just steam rolled through everything, and I’m not exactly a great player. I beat the wolf on the 2nd go too. Margit is still by far the most I’ve struggled with a boss or segment and I probably hit him at too low a level.

just respecced to use the golden halberd instead to try switch it up a bit.

I did actually - unfortunately I'd advanced too far down a different build path! Definitely something I'll look at on a future playthrough though.
I decided to start the game again and go for the twin blades and I’m loving it. Much more interesting for me than the sword/shield combo. Ive clearly got abit better at the game too as ive taken down most of the same bosses in half the time.

Very nice! I can't wait for another playthrough personally - genuinely think this game might be the best value for money ever?

Think I just killed someone I wasn’t supposed to? I just saw him and started attacking but his health bar was different. More red. Loads of skeletons got summoned and he said something about Devin as he died.

Do you get a health refill if your message is appraised? That happened to me a few times yesterday I think.

I think you get the equivalent of your standard flask refill for one appraisal. One annoying thing though is all the appraisals come through as you’ve started a new session and haven’t played for a while, so you’ll be getting pointless health boosts as I start a new session when you’re probably getting your bearings in the game again and deciding where to go next.

I should plan to start new sessions at the start of boss encounters maybe?:smirk:

I've now accepted that I should never have brought this game because I simply suck at it. I don't have the time or patience for it.

Dex is always king in these games, the twin blades will take you through it. Never doubt them or that fact!

Also you've cracked the key. The people who think you need shield in Souls' games, are weak gamers.

My brother bought it due to my persuasion and has returned it within a couple of days. Sometimes Fs games are not for you.

Bit disappointing to read from some that this is just a bigger open world version of older DS games. For me Sekiro was such a wonderful progression of video game fighting mechanics I could find it hard to go 'back' to the same old DS formula they've done 4 times now.

It's actually a large backwards step on the combat front to boot.

If anyone is struggling - get yourself the Bloodhound Fang weapon and start upgrading, best weapon in the game for me because of its massive L2 attack.

Coming up to 80hrs in - still having nightmares about the Astel, Naturalborn of the Void boss fight - took me two days.
I'm on 75, and most definitely, Bloodhound Fang is the best!

Bit much moaning going on right now. I'm having real fun. For people having trouble: There's some really good places to grind runes for a bit. It's not as good as BB but still a very very good game

I've been messing around so much in the open world this weekend. For me it's the best OW since BOTW (but they're in no way alike).

This is quickly becoming one of my favourites of all time. The world is so well realised and designed.

I've just reached the second legacy dungeon. It's a strange design choice to have you fight the Burger King repeatedly.

Agreed and I wouldn't have expected anything less.

As others have mentioned, the combat is not on par with previous games and some bosses and enemies are cheap but I love everything else about it. 30 hours playtime and counting and i'm still yet to reveal the entire map.

I can't wait to finish the game to start reading up on the lore, because you can be sure every single thing in this game has some sort of story behind it. It was one of my faovurite parts of Bloodborne after plauying that and understanding feck all.

He's actually silly tough for a first story boss. Still probably the toughest boss I've encountered.
He really is. The bosses I've faced since him (including story bosses) have been absolute peanuts in comparison. Don't think I've had more than maybe 3 or 4 attempts on any other boss since but he took a good 10-15.

EDIT: Though in fairness I've heard the difficulty ramps up massively in mid to late game, so, yay.

Shields in this game are probably the best they've been in any game yet. Guard counters are fantastic.

Yep, I game shared with a mate of mine, and he desperately wanted it, so I thought I'd give it a try after the plaudits it got. I've kept up with the Souls games, but never really played them.

I'm the type of person, at this stage of my life, where I don't want to keep grinding and replaying levels of games. In any story-based game, even like The Last of Us etc. where the save points are extremely generous, if I die and have to start again, I'll usually switch off the PS5 for a few days and come back to it another time, as I get so frustrated.

So I get the same thoughts with this game, except if you die, and you die a 2nd time, you lose all your progress and essentially have to re-grind to get back to the same point, and it's almost a guarantee that you won't beat most of the bosses the first couple of attempts, so that's loads of hours that need to be put in just to get to a progression point that's a couple of hours in.

I also hate games that stress you out and put you constantly on edge. TLoU was just about the limit of stress I can deal with in games in general, otherwise I don't find them enjoyable at all, and with this game, I feel it's quite stress inducing, as you're constantly worried about being one-hitted and losing everything, so you can never let your guard down.

Finding it hard to justify spending my time on this, when my backlog is so huge, with not enough time to put into the usual games as it is.

The best thing I can say about this game is if you do get frustrated with a boss, then the huge open world offsets that. If a boss is frustrating me, I just go explore areas I’ve never been too, briefly been to or return to areas and see if anything’s different after significant story progress has been made.

I hope to god there‘s some DLC for this game. It’s one of the best open worlds I’ve seen in a game. Everything from atmosphere, ambience and look is perfect. The Caelid area of the map has amazing ambient music that meshes with the apocalyptic environment it’s based in. Genuinely a spooky area.

Miyazaki and FromSoft should make a horror game of some form.

Im really interested to see what a DLC could be like. Traditionally From Software DLC has been really high quality and often the best stuff the game has to offer. However it usually involves heading through a portal to a new game area, and that wouldn't' work in an open world game, unless they were prepared to build an entirely new landmass.

Bloodborne?

Hopefully they put in a Easy, Normal and Hard difficulty and a pause menu.
Oh, and take a few of the bosses out of the game.

Bloodborne?

I‘m curious as to the placement of the clouds on the world map. Maybe they’re covering up islands that you can visit later?

And yeah, I suppose Bloodborne is a horror game of some form. I’d say the Upper Cathedral Ward section of the bit of that game is very horror-like. That section of Bloodborne was creepy as feck.

We really need a pause button. They had one in Sekiro, I thought they might keep it for future games, but nope. I get that they don't want you to be able to pause the game to be able to gain an advantage, but sometimes you have to answer the door, or pick up the phone or whatever. If you're 3/4 of the way through a difficult boss and have to just let yourself die because someone is knocking on, its super annoying.

Easy mode - comet azur?
