Feck the first boss in the Ainsel river ...cheesy b*stard

Great area though. Looks/feels huge.

Struggling to work out if the game is too hard or I’m just severely under-levelled for what I’m trying to do.

I just went down the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave, dodged that machine all the way after multiple tries and finally made it to the boss. I mess up my first dodge and that’s basically all my health gone. I hit with one attack and it does the tiniest slither. One more hit and I’m dead.

I just started as a confessor. I forgot how fiddly the control scheme is on FS games. It's always weird coming from something else especially. I keep consuming bloody flasks by accident

I tried it again at level 30 and still decided it was a bit much. That boss is a cnut with it's room filling attacks and hyper agressive behaviour making it impossible to even take a sip from your flask.

Ok good to know it’s not just me being shit. I mean it mostly is, but still.

He’s super tough for an early game boss. You can fight it in the first proper dungeon too.

I’ve gone southeast for now. Killing wolves and guards and stuff. Found a better sword for the first time so maybe that will help

Im fairly certain a big percentage of the playerbase are above 20 y.o. This is not fortnite nor minecraft. But how is it possible that in 2022 the game which is mostly single player doesnt have a pause feature? considering it appeals to adults and not kids? you know, adults, people with stuffs to do and sometimes their banshees screaming and need to be calmed down or they get a wife aggro. Where is the pause?!!!

Someone might have mentioned this already, but you can just install this - https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/43

It adds a pause feature and not only that but it also cuts the load to the CPU and GPU, so it is like the game is not even runing.

1. This game is almost unreasonably massive. At this rate I'll be done with it some time in July.

2. Why does everything do so much fecking damage? I've started pumping Vigor because at 26 I'm two-shot by most bosses and bigger enemies.

3. Around 70% of weapons seem to be Faith weapons. Then 20% Int weapons. And the rest are shit. Still haven't found anything better than the Claymore for my quality build.

4. Whoever designed the Draconic Tree Sentinel should never be allowed near video games again.

I really like the great Epee for quality. Nice long range and quite nimble. Claymore's always fantastic though and hard to top.

That area is atrocious tbh, I'm level 50 and I've avoided going back, its not just you. Having said that there's a really good talisman down there that increases your health, stamina and equip load. I think its called the Erdtree's favour. Its by those two elite enemies when you get to the bottom of that chariot gauntlet. Its definitely worth a suicide run grab.

The more I play the more it is just a DS2 reskin. Which amuses me greatly watching fans of the series fawn all over it.

Even the target lock is from that game and not 3/BB (I won't even get into the same collision issues from it as I'll be here all day). I can't tell at the moment if I'm playing it because I like it despite it's many backwards flaws, or because I'm desperate to love it because I'm a huge souls fan.

I feel the Bosses are a downgrade from DS3 and bloodborne too. I dont find them memorable and im at end game.

FINALLY beat the dog boss thing at the academy. Toughest fight so far for me, there's basically no way to beat it as a sorcerer I don't think, beast is a hyperactive killing machine.

They definitely are, I agree. Nowhere near the thought has gone into them and the "rage" second stage including infinite stamina and poise is just cringeworthy cheap attempt at "souls" difficulty. It's the very thing most souls clones have failed at.

The twin Princess Bosses and many of the dlc Bosses were brilliant in DS3. They sacrificed quality for quantity in this game. And 95 percent of the items are useless or pointless. Still a good game but way overhyped.

I just don't get how the hardcore fans of the series don't see what it is.

I mean it's clearly a decent game, and for newcomers bust be overwhelming and amazing. But it really is no more than DS2 reskinned, it even has all the same bugs/collision issues including the fecking ladder one!

I refuse to believe most players can beat the fire giant fair and square in this game. After some tries I just exploited a glitch that makes him fall to his death. I couldn't be arsed to try like 50 times. When they make bosses too unfair I'm okay with finding ways to cheat. Couldn't get near the Snake story boss but I had a random summon who was op against him using some weapon or skill or spell I don't know about.

Cheesing is part of DS, always has been. Don't let anyone tell you any different!

That's my feeling too. The legacy dungeons are still the best part of the game but they are let down by the unimaginative boss fights. DS3 had amazing bosses, it was always going to be difficult to live up to that - but they didn't even try, just went for the quantity approach (and for some cheap difficulty).

I'm stilll enjoying it for what it is because there's a lot to love, exploration in particular, both in the open world and in dungeons. But not as good as it could have been.

Ah I’m level 17 I think so probably never stood a chance. I did get to the end of tha gauntlet but don’t remember finding the talisman. Will have to check to see if I picked it up.

The open world is starting to annoy me more and more. Focus on gameplay quality instead of a giant empty world to plod through. If I want an open world I'll fecking go outside.

They didn't have to make the Witcher 4, but they really could have mixed it up with some more stories and npcs. It's just enemies and bosses all the time with depressing music.

I dread to think how long this thing would take to Platinum. Sekiro took me ages and it's nowhere near as big. I'm relatively early in the game, but I still think Bloodborne is better, but this would be second. It's way better than any of the Dark Souls games, and I'm not a big fan of Demon's Souls so it's definitely better than that. Sekiro was special, so that could rival this. Again, I'm still so early on that it's hard to say definitively.

The open-world aspect doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. In fact, I think they've done an incredible job. A great sense of exploration that most open-world games today simply don't have. Having the ability to fast travel to a Site of Grace at any time (more or less) is crucial because that would have been a pain in the arse otherwise. Some of the catacombs I've been in and some of the mini-bosses I've fought haven't been great. Not bad, necessarily, but very forgettable.

Still, I'm having a great time with it.

I think as far as open worlds go this gane isnt necesarrily bad. It's not a huge check off all different markers map. I just generally hate open world games :)

Yeah the more I play the more I realise the open world does nothing for this game. It’s just a tedious way to pad out moving from dungeon to dungeon, catacomb to catacomb etc. I suppose if you’re the type to stop and revel at views, vistas, and the environment then you’d have a lot to admire, but it does nothing for me.

It is a very good game but I’m curious as to how FromSoftware take the souls formula further. Not entirely convinced open world is the medium to do so going forward.

Pretty much exactly what I said earlier in the thread. Excellent game but the open world gets quite repetitive and boring after a while especially the more you get in and realise they’re rehashing a lot of the same dungeons and enemies over and over again. The legacy dungeons and proper mini dungeons are easily the best thing about it which kinda says it all about how good an addition the vast open world actually was.

still, complaining aside, I’ve still played 30 hours and barely scratched the surface and will enjoy it right to the end, but it’s no Bloodborne, and the open world is nowhere close to breath of the wild as reviews tried to suggest.

I find the open world far superior to Breath of The Wild, personally. But there again, I'm generally not a fan of Breath of The Wild and never got the hype. Played that game for about 30 hours and was bored to death. With Bloodborne, it was just more focused, while also allowing you to explore. Which, I will admit, I do prefer.

Gameplay wise this is on par with 2. It's not even close to 1, 3, BB or Sekiro.

I think to move forward we need more original settings and stories like BB. This should have been something like that, and whilst impressive in scale, it really is just a plain old souls and not a particularly fun one to play if you've done the others to death.

Also, it's not the gamplay itself that is stale, but the enemy a.i. We need more variance, more un-baked fights where you just know what to expect, less cheap "difficulty" efforts like unlimited stamina/poise on some enemies, but back to when it really was planned what enemy would be where and enhanced with characters that actually learn to fight you too. It's incredibly doable these days, but won't be because it's easier to put out reskins and get reviewers to hype it to shit.

Beastman of Farum Azula is kicking my arse. I probably did best on my first attempt but gradually getting worse.

I’ve always been shit at parrying in video games to the point where I’ve actively avoided it, but dodging doesn’t seem to work as it has multiple consecutive attacks. Parrying like I’ve got brain damage at the moment though.

Just killed it. Probably very small time compared to other bosses, but progress!
