Duncan Castles : Jose Mourinho on collision course with Ed Woodward over Manchester United transfers

Some fans logic:-

Hey look how bad conte is, demanding Lukaku from Chelsea's chiefs! he should find easier targets, he should have signed Defoe and Jay rodriguez

These are the same fans who will be angry when city sign mendy or walker or sanchez. They must be gutted when we signed Berbatov or RVP, such difficult deals, will no one think of the CEO?

Sadly enough this comment will go unnoticed or others will pass on it without much intention to keep overreacting. Our fans have been the biggest overreacting group of fans I have even seen for about a year or though.

Those talking about moving to easier targets know nothing of how negotiations done and they will be the first to attack these "easier" targets if we get them anyway.

I don't like using video games example but yeah it's very clear some are thinking negotiations are done like FIFA career mode.

It has gone very quiet with Utd in the last 2 weeks though I'd say.

There was that period when it looked like we might be about to sign Matic , but other than that there has been almost nothing.

Castles speaks a lot of crap. Eventually 50% of it will either come true or not. I wouldn't be too worried about this one.

Looking at our rivals it's not like they've finished with their transfers either it's the beginning of July ffs.

Lol. I get what you mean. :D

I'm jsut trying to understand why some people are taking this article seriously.

Sorry to intrude, but I just had to ask. We should know this because?

I've been off the caf for a long time. Kinda curious why some people are up in arms about it.

Well Jose has used Castles a few times in the past to get 'messages' out there, and that has been the case since his second Chelsea run.

Obviously he isn't going to tell him everything though, so occasionally he may get things wrong. As most journos do.

I do wonder if that's not a good sign, though. If we'd hit a brick wall wouldn't there be more and more names and rumours coming up, if we were scrambling around for new targets?

The best bit of information from that article is that Mourinho wants ATLEAST 4 more elite signings. So maybe we can get 5 in this window.

Aye, it could be a positive thing.

I'm not at the point of panicking yet, every other club seems to be struggling to get signings over the line too.

I would say though that I've never bought into this "King Woody" shite. I don't know why some seem to think he's a transfer maestro .

Castles is wrong more often than not. Just like Mitten, Delaney and Jackson.

There were no complaints about Jose's signings last summer, so why not trust him again? He's only going to be asking for players he thinks will improve us, and the whole reason we brought Jose in is because he's got a track record for being one of the best around. We don't need anyone to second guess him. Back the manager 100% or bring in a yes man like Giggs.

I think every signing need to be assessed accordingly. Last year signings were top notch. This year Mou's signing strategy seem to change from that of adding top players for the team to that of adding his former players and friends on ridiculous money. Lets face it, 50m on Perisic, 40m on some Chelsea's reject and 80m on some Real Madrid's benchwarmer is frigging crazy.

Regarding your second comment, well, no club will allow manager to do whatever he wants. Not even SAF was given such luxury and he was a proven and a constant winner not some manager whose got plenty to prove he still has it and whose previous 2 clubs are better off without him.

Mourinho falling out with Woodward over our transfer dealings at some point would hardly be a huge shock given what we know about them.

Still plenty of time in this transfer window so I doubt it's an issue just yet.

Hope Woody stands strong and tells Maureen to feck off if he starts a drama. Yea, it's easy to provide a list to someone to go and buy, but difficult for the buyer if the seller does not want to sell, or is asking 2-3 times what a player is worth. Woody should tell him to shut his face and get the best out of the players he has already.

These threads are fabulous for weeding out the anti-Mourinho crew. Same ol' names as always.

I don't understand the hate for Woodward on here. Just let him do his job - there's still two months of the transfer window to go. The ridiculous fees being touted and the nature of the transfer market aren't helping things. I really doubt Mourinho is on a "collision course". I'm sure he understands the situation as well and is being kept well-informed by the bigwigs.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs are pretty much in the same position as us, if not worse.

The story by Castles is based on absolutely nothing. Yeah I know he's considered to be "Mourinho's mouthpiece", more like ringpiece in my opinion. He needs to generate clicks and make money just like any other shitty tabloid journalist.

Good work Damien! About time people realised Castles talks a lot of nonsense and shouldn't be trusted.

As I said earlier, Castles and his sheep are covering their tracks over Matic now and have nothing to report transfer wise with the risk of discrediting themselves even more, so they're resorting to creating stories like this.

He burnt bridges with Real and Chelsea. He was kicked out of the previous job (Chelsea ended up winning the league few months after he left) and he spent ridiculous amount of money only to win the European version of the league cup. Good luck for him finding a club whose as accomodating as United is.
Well, Chelsea had win the league a few months before he left, too.

So while Conte and Pep are going out and refreshing their team with players who are going to take them forward, you think we should tell Mourinho to do his best with the squad of Moyes and LVG failures and Fergie retirees. You'll probably be the first to complain when we're not challenging for the title again.

Conte just won the league, hasn't lost anyone yet and is severely complaining about the lack of transfer business. Mourinho managed 6th with a few cups, lost the main striker and others to injury, has to put up with Rooney and… can't complain? Pep, by the way, who had a worse season, is doing a complete overhaul of City.

And has brought in two names so far. One more than us.

Have chelsea signed anyone yet?

And city have 1

All clubs seem to be going after ridiculously difficult targets

This is definitely concerning. I mean it's an easy story to write since it plays on the fears of fans and will get clicks, but with Castle's writing it it becomes a concern. He does seem closely connected to Jose.

Without taking Ed or Mou side, I need to say this. Jose said after winning the Europa League that he had handed the list of potential targets in March. Which means that effectively it's been 3 months since "The List" was given and potential targets were identified. He also said that he asked Woodward not to look for potential targets . Which means the list was not outlandish in any way. So Woodward must have made early headways well before the window, just like City did with Bernardo Silva etc
Now, turning to other side , let's see market and we see every club is asking for ridiculous amount of money for even mediocre players like Parisic and Balotti etc etc. Plus as someone said, as soon as United come calling , they know that here comes a very Rich man with expensive suit and luxurious car to buy and he is in need ... So the prices automatically increase ... Woodward has to balance book and look in terms of getting players on the "right" kind of money so it is going to take time obviously. Plus the fact that at this very moment no big transfer has yet happened. And this is because the market is cagey at the moment. Looking at Woodward's track I'd still give him time until the end of the preseason before I start calling for his head

Well, Chelsea had win the league a few months before he left, too.

then he lost control over the team, the same team he wants to buy players from for a lot of ££££. Can you blame the club for asking why?

Either there is nothing in this story or Jose is giving Ed a needed kick up the arse.

Can't see a problem with it.

Jose has every right to be pissed off. At the end of the day it's his job that's on the line if we don't score the goals to secure CL football/win trophies.

And has brought in two names so far. One more than us.
One of them is a decisive position for them (goalkeeper), the same as a striker for us… which he didn't get yet. The amount of players City has let go already shows they mean business, not they're trying to save pennies being the most rich club in the world.

then he lost control over the team, the same team he wants to buy players from for a lot of ££££. Can you blame the club for asking why?
The same team plus Kanté, Alonso, etc. yeah. But that's beside the point. One of the reasons he lost control there was precisely he couldn't had competition for places with the players he needed, the players started the season self-assured, and all went to hell...

Are we supposed to expect Mourinho to challenge for the title while not having time to work in pre-season with two of the supposed attacking starters?
