For what it's worth, I wouldn't have minded if we bought Carroll from Newcastle. But not for £35m, or anywhere near that.

I just think the massive money like that either has to go on sure fire world class talents like Rooney and Fabregas or already proven world class players. Carroll doesn't fit in either catergory.

You didn't need to be a managerial genius to spot the potential of Ferdinand & Rooney. All you needed was a big cheque-book, & the ability to blow other clubs out of the water financially.

You're right, I was referring to Henderson. But seeing as you mention it, & having the advantage of retrospect on my side. After 4 years at the club, I think it's fair to say that Anderson certainly hasn't lived up to his hefty price-tag. Therefore, not having the advantage of foresight, it's only right & proper that you give our big Geordie lad 3 or 4 years before deciding whether or not we've got value for money.
I would say that 102 goals in 217 games, a PFA young player of the year award, a PFA player of the year award, 70 English caps, voted Best England player twice, 4 Premier league titles and a Champions league medal would dictate that yes, he was worth more than we paid for him
