Desperately wants to be ITK
75m on the terrible trio of Henderson, Carroll and Downing is both incredible and hilarious.
a bit unfair out of context:
£35m for carroll, a definite improvement on ngog
£18m for henderson, an improvement on spearing
£18m for downing, a improvement on an empty left position
£8 million for adam, an improvement on gerrard being out for half the season
and that's leaving out suarez who is a direct torres replacement for half the money.
Whereas you lot have spent:
£20m on de gea, no improvement - direct replacement of vds
£19m on jones, no improvement - smalling is first in line as sub
£18m on young, still don't understand this as you have rooney for the free role and nani for the wing
all figures above approximates, and you are the league chasing team while we are only concerned with getting cl football back.
The difference with Henderson is that they did buy him as a player who had potential and they expected to develop over time. It's difference with Downing. He's a player in his prime who they expected to make an instant impact, which he hasn't done.
That's true, but the fees were roughly the same.
Carroll has shown unbelievable potential - most exciting English striking talent by a mile.
Mcmanaman yesterday made a comment that made me cringe, he basically you have 2 world class wingers out there, one full of confidence and playing really well as such, the other's confidence in the crapper ...
He was talking about Valencia and Downing.
Downing world class?

Cheeky bump (not a 5 year old thread this time).
In terms of overrated players Downing is my number 1. I hear he is about to make Englands left wing his own, for the past 7 years. Parker is someone I've thought was overrated, but it slowly changing my mind. Gareth Barry can go alongside him perhaps.
Honestly you could almost make an "Overrated English 11"
