Not really since it gives you an early clue to the stupidity of the writer. I can't be bothered to slag the rest of it when it starts off on such a clueless premise.
Fair enough. Do you think there will be any change of style if Arsenal lose both Fabregas and Nasri?

Downing for arsenal. This and Adam = Pirlo is cracking me up big time for some reason.

I can see these Gooners flinging their jellied eels all over the shop tonight.

Is there any transfer link that in your world you can't dismiss outright? Arsenal to sign Craig Thomson following his release from Hearts? Would you dismiss that one?
It can't be dismissed outright with statements like 'It's complete bollox'.

You've no idea what Wenger's transfer plans are anymore than the rest of us.

Yes, but he's been the manager for nigh-on a decade and a half, and he's never signed anyone as average as Downing, which would imply that he's not going to sign him.

It's my opinion based on a wealth of historical source material. Not every post I make is a fact - indeed, very few are, simply because they'd be pretty dull if they were.

Exhibit A your honour: Francis Jeffers.

Jeffers showed much more than Downing ever has and he was fecked by injuries. He was sensational for Everton for a season, the new Robbie Fowler. In any case I think that was an unWenger-like signing, 8 years on he's developed a mature style which excludes buying overpriced crap like Downing (or Young for that matter).

You don't half come out with some wondefully grand retarded statements at times Al.

Are you seriously claiming that Wenger has never signed any player worse or on a par with Downing in his time as Arsenal manager? Seriously?

I'll rephrase.

He has signed players worse than Downing - but these were players whose potential he over-estimated. He's never signed an established player whose level is similar to Downing's.

It's easy to display snobbery when it comes to English players like Stuart Downing.

The average Arsenal fan is probably completely unaware that he picked up the Players' Player of the Season and supporters' Player of the Season awards in a team that struggled for most of the season.

Yes, we show snobbery when you've been taking the piss out of Barton and Doyle all week. The hypocrisy is astounding.

Rosicky isn't any better. He was about the same age as Downing when you bought him.

Let's not go overboard here, Downing isn't complete crap. Sure, he's a long way from top 4 quality, but he's not a complete donkey like Jeffers.

So I don't know what's funnier, Liverpool paying 19 million for Downing or Arsenal allegedly stepping in with a bid of their own.

Rosicky has clearly not produced at Arsenal, but he was deemed at the time of purchase to be infinitely better than Downing.

And yes, I've under-rated Downing a tad, you're right.

Yes, because including Bischoff as an established player is fair enough, right?
Not saying anything;just pointing out that there have been worse and I could add Pennant to the list.

I did agree with Downing being a poor player but Wenger has bought quite a few and I hope he continues to do so;)

No, you can't add Pennant to the list. You've missed the point entirely. We've brought up some average young players, but extraordinarily rarely purchased an ESTABLISHED player akin to Downing.

Rosicky is miles better than Downing. It's like saying Hargreaves is no better than Djemba-Djemba.
Rosicky was a great talent, just seemed a bit frail for the PL both physically and mentally, but he was very skillful

I don't see it in Rosicky. He's pretty poor most of the time (and not just after his return from injury). If he played for a mid-table side you'd say he was crap like Downing.

Seriously, what is it about Arsenal fans and these sweeping statements?

Thats not even close to being true. Rosicky has been garbage for a while now.
