Douglas Costa

It did seem strange at the time, Gremio selling Costa to Shakhtar for €6m after demanding four times that figure from us, if reports are to be believed. Surely they could have just held onto him until a big offer came in from some club if they thought he was worth a large fee?

It's been pretty obvious in the last few years that we try to keep transfer dealings quiet until deals are done, so if he was in Manchester for reasons relating to a possible transfer I'd imagine we'd be likely to hear an announcement fairly soon.

It looks like Shakhtar have a game tomorrow in their league, so I would presume Costa isn't playing for 'some' reason.

It might explain why we ducked out (even though there was work permit issues) of the Ljajic deal?

Edit: Agh! friendlytramp mentions this above!

Is he in this shot? Top left?

The 2nd suit guy from Costa side looks a little like Neymar...

Its because of the hype and timing of the interest. We were linked with him, and he was dubbed "The new Anderson" after his first match in which he scored a pretty good goal. So at that point the hype was crazy, and of course being the new Anderson was a big deal back then...

After that he didnt do anything all season. He did have a period out with injury, but he came back and he wasnt scoring and he wasnt creating goals. I'd ask my Gremio supporting friend about him every week and each week he'd complain about him, saying he hopes they get rid of him. And he'd just be happy with 10 million euro if they could get that.

They didnt get that and a bigger european club didnt sign him. Sure he has the clause to compensate Gremio, but my friend lists a good 4 or 5 players that I've never even heard of, who Gremio have sold with the same clause. They do it for a lot of their players, not just for Costa.

With how he was going at Gremio, its possible another season there and the likes of Shaktar wouldnt have been interested either. So I dont think its odd that the deal happened, but if he came good it was going to be a short spell there

At the time the rumour was that Shakhtar paid so little because they promised to give 70% of his future fee to Gremio, which means he would be expensive now seeing as they would request £20m to cover their input. I don't expect a quality winger to come for less though.

So Charlie Adam wasn't the player Fergie was talking about in January?

*sad face*

the picture in getty images with the brazilian in the white jumper looks more like teixiera. i think that's waht he meant.

agreed on the mirror story though. tha's adriano....but it also looks a bit of willian.

feck it, buy all four.

Don't be silly.

As if we'd leave out Fernandinho and Jadson

Looks like Costa top left in the white. Think that's 4 young Brazilian kids in the red ties same row, we usually have some over regularly though

This thread's gonna be hilarious to read if he shows up at the Chelsea-City match tomorrow.

So is he any good?

I don't know why I ask because I'll bet every single person in this thread spouting about his qualities has either never seen him play (whole games not You Tube clips) or at best has done so once or twice.

Seen him in Brazil and Shaktar he is quality, does seem a bit of a wild talent that will need to saddled but neverthless a great talent
