Douglas Costa

So is he any good?

I don't know why I ask because I'll bet every single person in this thread spouting about his qualities has either never seen him play (whole games not You Tube clips) or at best has done so once or twice.

He's a talent, whether he's consistant enough for a top club or not I cant really say. He wasnt when he was at Gremio when I really took an interest in him, thats for sure.

But he's done a lot more in his time at Shaktar and going to a new country and having to settle in, and perform well for a team is a great step to maturing as a player. He's done that now

From Shakhtar forums:

Costa has the most potential out of all players who have played in the Ukrainian league. He is fantastic at dribbling, acceleration, shooting, speed, thinking on the field.

He still doesn't have the footballing intellect - runs around, dribbles, but without much success. Footballing intellect comes with age.

Costa has a lot of potential, but when will he learn to play as part of the team? His tricks are becoming a bore now.

When Costa comes on in the second half, he almost always scores. He's too young to start games, but when he comes on as a sub, he destroys defenses.

My impression is that he was ridiculously good during his first season at Shakhtar, but became very inconsistent during his second season, with some really good games and some fairly poor ones. Fans appear to be split on whether it would be a good idea to sell him if a serious offer comes in.

Definitely Costa top left in the white. Think that's 4 young Brazilian kids in the red ties same row, we usually have some over regularly though

So, who are they then? Let the search commence.

Remind you of anyone currently playing for United?

We really can't expect consistency from a 20 year old. If he does come here he'd be used sparingly, as an impact substitute primarily, at least to start with. When we make signings like this we look for a mix of raw talent and the ability to perform on the big stage, and that seems to be exactly what Costa has. It would obviously take a few years for him to develop into a world class player, to get some consistency and to refine his decision making, much like the process Ronaldo went through, having been signed at an even younger age. Don't take that as a Ronaldo comparison though, he was just a freak of nature, a young talent that just rocketed. What is true though is that Costa would offer a strong left foot and some serious pace, a combination that we dont have when looking through our wingers.

Glad to see we're making moves to strengthen midfield, maybe I'm a tart but as far as I'm concerned if he's come to watch us play Bolton in March it can be for no other reason than he's very close to signing. Obviously we've had a long-term interest in the boy and he's developed well at Donetsk so the deal makes sense from all angles.

The Brazillian N'Zogbia, definitely a step up from Bebe/Obertan if we were to go for him.

Worst case, we'd have to doug in deep for this fella - but, hopefully, he won't costa lot.

Hehe. Good to see you mate.

This thread is confusing me a little...have we signed this guy or not?

On the cusp of it, it would appear. But my guess is as good as yours. Could be a whole other angle to it for all we know.

Strange how we haven't heard anything since. You'd think the Ukranian press would at last be able to hunt down a "No comments" from Shakhtar.

How is he anymore of an expert of what Douglas Costa looks like, did he used to work for KGB or something

Someone suggested if maybe he was a guest for Ando or the twins. But if Shakthar have a game the day after, I don't see why he would be at OT. Unless he was injured. I would rather have Modric though.

Modric Costa Rodwell Bale, would be a good summer for United

Would you like it if one of our players made a trip like that a day before a game ? Regardless of the purpose of that trip.

If we made 12 million pounds on said player as a result of the trip Id be fine with it
