We shouldn't assume ETH would give him chances at united. The United role will present a whole different outlook and proposition for the coach.
Perhaps, but we didn't splunk 35m on a player knowing he was not good enough. We singed him for a reason. If ETH is appointed and can't get a tune out of Donny, so be it. He's just not good enough.

Also, my post was a bit in jest.

He would of made no difference today anyway. Everton fans online were not even bothered that he got injured. Hologram.

Could be one of the big winners from the appointment of Ten Hag
Maybe. But he has a long way long way to go to prove that he's good enough for the PL and that too at Manchester United. People are assuming that ETH will magically turn him into a quality player but I can also see a situation where he's just not got what's needed at this level for us. ETH knows that what worked at Ajax will not necessarily work at United in thePL

Everton fans underwhelmed by him. One good cameo on his debut that’s it
Thats interesting. There was a popular Everton fan channel guy on Stretford Paddock saying he has been missed by the fans. He was injured / missing in the last 3 games no?

His problem is going to be the same even with ETH, he's not a better #8 than Fred, who's thriving in a more advanced role and he's not a better #10 than Bruno to be an automatic starter. So he'll likely be in the rotation, alongside McTominay if a better #6 arrives and Pogba leaves. I hope he gets more chances to play closer to goal as that's where his true impact lies, combining with the likes of Sancho.

Just because ETH liked him at Ajax means nothing here, it’ll actually be a test of his metal to see him feck DvB right off.
Er, he’s already fecked him right off once. From Ajax.

How about this:

Ajax were short of cash thanks to Covid. Edwin asked ETH which saleable player he’d miss the least. ETH said “Donny!”. Edwin gets on the blower to his mate Ed. The rest is history.

ETH once said: "

Only once in his career has Pep made a mistake – in his first year at Manchester City when he completely underestimated the power and speed of the Premier League," Ten Hag told Voetbal International.

"He realised that you can't play the kind of football he loves without having a couple of physically strong athletes – and so he brought them in.

if he has learnt anything from PEP, I am not really sure how much VDB will have opportunity to turn things around.

I think we will give VDB one more year to see if things improve, else he will be out the year after..

I recall in his last season at Ajax the fans were saying he wasn't being picked as much that season. He went from playing 34 league games for two seasons to 23, not sure how many were starts/subs appearances. So yes I don't think Donny is guaranteed if ETH is here but I'm just going off what some fans were saying, not sure if he had some injuries.

I would argue Bruno, Fred, Pogba, McTom, Lingard and Donny all favour the attacking midfield role and struggle further back. Quite bizarre how we've ended up with all these trying to shoehorn them in defensive roles and one real option in an old Matic. If we play a genuine 3 man midfield I could see him being used. I think they're all ok short term to help each other cover the ground if there's enough of them.

Looks like the Milky Bar kid and plays like him.

Weak, soft, cannot run and three managers have worked with him in England, all not rating him and all have softly leaked to the press that he lacks physicality. Will end up in a mid-tier German team inside 12 months is my guess.

If you knew anything about the Milky Bar kid, you'd know that he's actually strong and tough.

Sounds about right.
We have too many pointless debates on here about who’s responsible for signings: board, CEO, marketing people, manager, scouts, tea lady etc.

I’m convinced that we massively underestimate the part that sellers (clubs, players’ agents) have to play. Maybe particularly at United, which doesn’t seem to have had the most rigorously organised footballing structure in the vacuum created by SAF’s departure.

Where has Lampard said anything like that about him?

I doubt he will be shipped out in the summer. I am sure ETH will enjoy having a player with whom he has previously worked with. He might not be strong enough for the EPL but I think he should get a season under ETH before he is sold.

I'm not on the DVB bandwagon at all but I think the criticism is harsh on him. He got virtually no chance at united and is struggling either via injury or cup tied at Everton now. From his Ajax days I think it's fair to say there is a good player there and I'm looking forward to him getting a fair crack at it next year. Aside from Bruno I think he can be our best attack minded midfielder with a consistent run.

Where does he fit in though? He's half the player Fred is and doesn't excel at anything.

Fred has improved greatly but we are quick to forget he has had every opportunity and put in some atrocious performances. I personally believe he is a much better footballer than Fred. He can excel as he has done before arriving late to the box, linking up the midfield with the attack by playing 'football' rather than this long ball bullshit the likes of pogba always tries, then if the diagonal comes off he's happy for showing the world he can pass, but then what? Full back or winger etc plays it backwards. Then its back to start again as we are toothless. I believe he can be critical to changing this mentality
