It’s an English rule, so Martial would come down to if the clubs had written something in the deal.

It all came about funnily enough after Everton didn’t play an on loan Tim Howard against United due to a “gentleman’s agreement” which counted as external bodies influencing selection which is illegal. Think both clubs got a slap on the wrist and they created the rule.

Yeah, pretty sure it's an FA rule. I remember Lua Lua scoring against Newcastle (his parent club at the time) for Portsmouth years ago. As for Europe, I think Martial would have been allowed to play against us. I remember Courtois playing against Chelsea, when on loan at Atletico.

Probably ETH knows DVB extremely well and as to what he can do and what he cannot do. He does not need to see it for himself at United as he knows it best.

This is the kind of made up nonsense that is easy to throw out there because regardless of how ETH truly sees him there is almost no doubt he will use him next year. With Pogba, Matic and Lingard definitely gone the reality is Donny will have to be used even if it is a rotational role. We could sell him to fund new signings but honestly his stock is rock bottom at the moment so we would do better to keep him around next season and hope that ETH can get him back into some sort of form so that at the very least we can recoup most of our outlay selling him in 2023 as opposed to probably having to give him away for a token fee at this point.

Yea my concern is the feasibility of making such huge changes in a transfer window or two. I feel like this will be a rebuilding process where we end up making 3-4 changes this summer which won't be enough in the short term

Managers moving to bigger clubs often bring some of their old favourites along and it rarely ends well such as Joe Allen at Liverpool. I mean if all your budget will stretch to is a 2014 Ford Fiesta then you are happy with that but if you change jobs and suddenly have the money for a new Audi you probably are going to ditch the Fiesta even if you had good memories with it.

Oh I agree we will need him next season if for no other reason than to rebuild his value so we can sell him. We have too many players out of contract along with a few others who have to be jettisoned to be getting rid of Donny this summer.
