Television Doctor Who

Again another enjoyable episode. The ending with the Doctor emerging from the chamber was a bit predictable, but I loved the tension and the overall drama in the episode. The best start to a season in quite a while.

One issue I have is that I find the sunglasses silly. Bring back the fecking screwdriver.

arya is on next week!!

Its definitely been better then last season, and the one before that.

Not a fan of the sunglasses though. They should at least look a bit 'spacey'.

Enjoyed this series a lot. Another good episode.

I was hungover when watching Saturday's episode on Sunday though - so I didn't quite understand the significance of Beethoven's 5th. What was the purpose of that spiel at the start of the episode, and then returning to it at the end of it?

He said he didn't send the hologram saying the names before being told that it was there, which is the same story as the Beethoven one he told. So who sent it originally?

He was engaging in paradox banter with the viewers

Just banter or is it going to be built into some plot line about the Doctor's role in time/the universe, and presumably something or someone having influence over events?

Another 'to be continued...'

I'm liking how they're building the story and not having everything work out at the end of each episode, makes for much better viewing. Thought this week was ok, nothing great. Maisie was fantastic, as expected & Capaldi continues his good form. I'm enjoying him more this year than last.

I'm going to guess Maisie's character will turn out to be River Song. Although she might be the 'hybrid' Davros mentioned (as was hinted in this episode)

The two part episode format suits the show so much more. They've always previously struggled with the pacing of standalone episodes. Arya is great.

Didn't like the look of the episode from the previews but was pleasantly surprised. Entertaining episode with a clever finish which leaves the story wide open. I agree with the above two posts that the 2 parters have really worked so far and gives the show more opportunity with the story lines.

Okay, here are some random thoughts that some of you may already know the answers to, or I may have remembered some old plot lines wrongly, so please inform me or correct me as I'm also hung over like a mother...

Did Clara absorb the doctors regeneration energy when she was wired up as a dalek? Does this mean she is now more powerful etc just like the daleks said that they now were after getting some of the Doctors energy? Does this explain how she lived and died throughout time as different versions of herself? Or is that separate? Does Clara now have the ability to either come back from the dead or even to regenerate? Is she like Wolverine now? Is she linked to the Doctor now? Is Clara the person that gets the live forever healing tech patch the Doctor gave to Ashildr? Would this explain Clara throughout time/history being alive and looking the same? Is there a connection between Clara being in the Dalek asylum and being in the Dalek this time? How many regenerations does the Doctor have left now, and he gave a load of that energy to all the Daleks?

Is it now just a matter of time before we get a female Doctor? Will it be the Doctors daughter? will it be River or Missy or Clara? Will it be an unknown actress?

Will the Doctor be given the live forever healing tech patch at the end of the series as he is out of regenerations?

Any ideas guys or any other theories?

I think Clara living forever, or in various timeframes, was explained by her entering the Doctor's 'stream' (eeww) at the larger-on-the-outside Tardis. As for her being a Dalek during the regeneration energy surge they showed her to move around wondering what was going on with the other daleks who seemed to have gone into a simultaneous reboot. So I assume she was unaffected despite being in the Dalek shell.

The one thing this Maise episode has introduced is the question everyone has been asking for decades. Can the Doctor, being a doctor, revive dead people (whether by advanced technology or timey wimey stuff)? The answer was emphatically shouted out by Capaldi that to hell with it - he can and he now will!

So what happens with the ripples and tidal waves? I suggest belting your brain in, the paradoxes will now drive you (more) nuts (than usual Doctor Who fare)!! :)

Didn't the Doctor have a second micro chip that was used to revive Maise? Maybe it will be used to revive Clara's overly annoying boyfriend which will be the signal for Clara to leave?

I'm personally hoping that cnut is deader than dead. Hated his character.

I think the time lords reset him somehow in the episode on the Christmas planet, some sort of reward for not completely fecking over Gillifrey just losing it in time and space or someother doctor who shite

Nice post :D.

I'd forgotten about her entering his stream too as an explanation (sort of) for her timeframes. I do think they have missed a trick if she didn't get any regeneration energy, ah well. And I like that you bring up the Doctor being all to hell with it. Should be interesting as you say going forwards.

I still like some of my random ideas though :o:D

Ahh, I do remember that Gallifrey story now, so does he have the full 12 regenerations back again then?

Man, I don't know how they keep the storylines going, remember the difficulty they had in Heroes with Hiro and Peter time travelling and creating constant plot holes or timey wimey troubles if I remember correctly.

He also received Nectar points, I believe.

Matt Smith's Doctor was awarded extra lives by the Timelords in the hidden dimension at the end of his life.

I believe he keyed in Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start to the TARDIS console.

CMP has it right I think. He got a brand new regeneration set. He should be able to regenerate another 11 times now.

Until he comes close to the end and the writers make up another reason for him to get loads.

This series is so much better then the last few. Really enjoying it so far.

The ending of the last episode really does set it up for Ashildr to return (haven't seen tonight's episode so not sure if she returns tonight). Maybe a future assistant?

Maisie Williams is just great. I'm liking that it's wide open for her to make appearances in the future.

Just watched the last 2 eps and both excellent, this season really is very good so far.
I agree we are going to see a lot more of Maisie Williams, not sure if she will be a companion.
What about Sam Swift, I have a feeling we could see him again too.
Nice mention of Capt Jack.

Seemed like they were preparing for him coming back, but getting in a ready-made excuse for if he doesn't, with the whole "he might be immortal but the power in the thing might have drained so he might not be" line. I think Rufus Hound is meant to be a big fan of the show, so I imagine he'd come back if they asked.

Very good episode. Arya is amazing. She should be the next assistant.

Capaldi deserves praise for his performances this season. The stories have been much better, but he also seems a lot more natural in the role this year. Best season in a while, hope the final half continues the strong form.

edit; just saw CMP already said it.

What does that even mean Silva? I've heard this new Doctor is a bit rubbish, they should bring me back obviously to fix this show.

They've made him less of an arsehole which he seems to be enjoying

The 'finding his personality' lark in his first season was a bit poor. He pulled the comedy off but didn't quite manage the somber parts convincingly.

Thought Capaldi was superb tonight, Jenna Coleman was also excellent. Not sure who decided to have 2-parters in the season but I'm loving it. Gives so much more opportunity for the story & characters to develop.

Yeah Capaldi was very good. I'm glad, though, beyond relief even, that that Osgood girl isn't going to be the new assistant (or it doesn't look like she will) as I thought she was for a minute. Not only is she not a very good actor, it would also be disappointing to go from Billie Piper, Karen Gillan and Jenna Coleman to her.

So....isn't there a 50% chance that both Osgoods are now actually Zygons?

Or was the thing about not needing the original human alive not true?

Agree with people saying that Capaldi was excellent. That speech of his made the episode far better than it actually was, imo.

There's going to be tears when Clara leaves, mind.
