Bloody hell..Jenna's let herself go, by the look of that photo.

EDIT: Oh, the names are in the wrong places.

Rewatching Series 3 right now, I miss the old crew. Not just the Tenth Doctor, but the supporting cast that had built around him starting from Eccleston's time, everyone from Martha to Captain Jack to Mickie right.

Same :(, that said, Matt Smith was a good doctor and actor, just the writing let him down. I wonder if things will be different under Capaldi, not that I have big expectations.

So I finally decided to get into this when I saw a new series starting soon. I always thought it would be something I would like but just never bothered because it seemed a bit too kiddy and the cheapness of the effects. I've decided to look past that and I'm enjoying it so far though some it can be a bit hit and miss at times. Decided to start from when David Tennant became the doctor because Christopher Eccleston just doesn't appeal to me, or is that mistake and his stuff worth watching?

Series 3 is my favourite one, without a doubt. Cpt.Jack is such a goofy companion to have around, and Marth trying to impress the Doctor after his heart broke of Rose. Then we have Harold Saxon, that was a good story arc.

It's definitely worth watching. I'm not a big Eccleston fan either but it's good background and development for several characters, and a good standard of season imo.

Eccleston's my favorite doctor by far. He was the first one I saw and I was at an age where this kind of crap is absolutely perfect. Matt Smith is the best doctor though, he didn't have the best stories but his mannerism and acting is the best portrayal of a very old, clever alien with cool gadgets and technology, but sadly I was a bit too grown up during his tenure to really enjoy it. I thought Tennant was just playing a clever, overly-emotional man rather than the doctor.

That said, I've seen very few of the older episodes. But the ones I did see were crap and often badly made.

Eccleston's season has some great episodes, but it's really uneven as a whole. If you don't want to watch them all, I suggest just hitting up these:

Rose - Mainly because it's the new series finale, first appearance of Rose and Mickie, but it's not a great episode).
The End Of The World - Establishes The Doctor's character (fun loving but ruthless when angered) and Rose's view of him. Also introduces the "last of the Time Lords" aspect.
Dalek - Reintroduces the Daleks. Eccleston's acting in top notch in this one.
Father's Day - My favourite Series 1 episode, introduces Pete Tyler in an emotional story.
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances - Great two parter, dark but still has sprinkles of Moffat humour throughout. Introduces Captain Jack.
Bad World/The Parting Of Ways - Decent finale, second part is better than the first. Regeneration scene is well done too in my opinion.

Matt Smith was a good Doctor, but the show itself was really starting to annoy me. I actually didn't watch any Series 7 episodes, just jumping back in now because there's a new Doctor. Trying not to get my hopes up too high though.

Yeah and The Master was brilliant, loved John Simm in the role.

Just a pity he only did it for one season, I agree he was excellent, but still for me Tennent is Dr Who, even better than the ones form my childhood.
Stand out EP's for me are The Girl in the Fireplace and the 2 part Satan Pit both outstanding.

Eccleston was my favourite Doctor too, although I think he was helped with some really good episodes and a storyline that were easy to follow. Tennant was brilliant, he is Dr Who for me. I enjoyed Matt Smith but his story got complicated at times which took away some of the enjoyment.

That is one of my favourite episodes too, alongside the first Weeping Angels episode. The 2 parter about the people in gas masks is fantastic too.

Amazing to think that the weaping angles were originally a doctor lite episode

Just rewatched the Human Nature and Family Of Blood two-parter, brilliant story. Joan telling The Doctor to leave, then crying while clutching the Journal Of Impossible Things, brutal. Great television. These episodes also have my single favourite description of The Doctor in the whole new series:

"He's like fire and ice and rage. He's like the night, and the storm in the heart of the sun. He's ancient and forever. He burns at the centre of time, and he can see the turn of the universe.

And... he's wonderful."

That's what happens when you sell off the NHS.

I think I'd have that as my favourite two parter from the 2005+ series'.

I'll check these out, though I did see Rose when it first aired. I remember being bored as hell watching which is why I never continued with it.

Also pretty disappointed to see the comments about the writing during Matt Smith's time as the doctor. I've seen clips like the one in the kitchen with all the food and was really looking forward to those episodes as he seemed like someone I'd enjoy watching.

Oh and another complaint I have is the sometimes terrible acting in some of the episodes. You can look over it sometimes but I pretty much passed over the episodes with the cybermen because the guy in the wheel chair was absolutely atrocious. You'd also think that a show this popular would get better directors in.

Yeah Rose isn't great (not the companion, episode lol), it's just good to watch the first episode of the new series as a starting point I guess.

As for the writing in Matt Smith's time, some people prefer it to the Eccleston/Tennant era, I'm just not one of them. I do have to say though, Matt Smith's first season is on par with Series 3 (the one with Martha) as my favourite. It's just that as Smith's run continuted, the writing got more convoluted (Moffat is clever, but not half as much as he thinks he is), and the characters became more annoying. Again, this is my opinion, and I know people who vastly prefer it to the RTD days.

As for directors and the more technical aspects of the show, they do improve during the Moffat era. The general look of the whole show gets overhauled, and it's definitely for the better.

Okay so I just watched the satan episodes and I'm finally getting why people can get so hooked on this. It was an absolutely brilliant couple of episodes, probably aided by whoever it was that mentioned Rose dies because I genuinely thought this was going to be the end for her. Actually thinking about it, if I hadn't have known that I would have expected them to all live and the ending would have left me a bit cold to what was otherwise a very good episode. Eh well, I'm really starting to properly get into this now.

Is this season going to be split into 2 parts or are we getting an uninterrupted season this time?

on season 3 now, not my fav , some weak EP's in it, but just watching the 2 part, about the Family Blood , forgot how good they are.

I just finished this series last night and there are quite a few mediocre episodes, though non so bad that I just completely skipped them like the Peter Kay episode in series 2.

Though I have to ask what the hell is up with ending to the series finale? The show throws up a few bits of crap every now and then that I'm willing to overlook but you get essentially a 3 episode arc with some great twists, a far more interesting villain then anything I've seen so far and the whole thing gets resolved by everyone praying the doctor into magic floating Jesus. Almost ruined the entire thing for me.
