Scoring only once off the bench, especially when we consider that he's been a backup player quite a bit in the bigger matches in the past, is another problem.

If both he and Hernandez are on the bench with Rooney alone up front, and we need a goal, who do we bring on?

Both of them and shift Rooney wide (unless we aren't using a makeshift winger)

Had a feeling he wouldnt. And as I said previously it says a lot about his squad status and what Fergie actually thinks of him.

Pathetic decision to leave him out. Feel sorry for the lad. Any other manager bar ferguson would be ridiculed for constantly leaving their top goalscorer out of the team.

Makes perfect sense to bring him back in, see if the Rooney and Berbatov partnership will have a reaction to Fergie's comments a few weeks ago and bringing Hernandez in. Even more-so with Berbatov's last game against Liverpool. If this game isnt the one to spark a reaction and see them come to life away from home, then I dont know what will

Until other coaches have Fergies record then I would side with SAF.

Berbatov is playing today as he generally plays well against the dippers.

Not sure if its 442 or 451 with Rooney out wide.

You really think we'll play Giggs and Scholes in a 3 man midfield against Liverpool?

I think we'll be 442 or 4411 with Rooney in behind Berbatov.

Personally I would hope its Rooney up front and Berba deeper but it will be Berba up and Rooney roaving but with strict instructins to drop deep or push out wide if we lose possession. SAF can generally rely on Rooney to do his defensive share of the work.

Berbatov does too.

But the goalscoring return this season has come from having Berbatov leading the line. Probably best to leave your top scorer in the position he's most dangerous for now

Its been 7 appearances (4 starts) since his last goals. 5 away games and 2 at home.

We need Berbatov now to get us the goals and wins as we have 5 home games and 4 away games left.

He went through a similar fallow period earlier this season but bounced back with a bang and hope he will again as I just don't see Rooney turning around his form.

Been a top season for Berba so far - 28 starts, 5 subs = 20 goals and 4 assists. From hearing him speak he would give up personal accolades for team glory but it seems this season round I hope he can get both.

He'll score again, SAF just needs to stop f*cking with him, bringing him in and out of the team all the time.

He also needs to get him a decent midfield.

But he needs to perform better himself. Hernandez has been outscoring and outplaying him recently, so there is clearly a case for him to be playing.

Unfortunately a striker at United needs to be able to deal with that. He's not the first and wont be the last to be in that situation.

Not so many do deal with it well though, do they? Berbatov, Rooney, Tevez all don't/didn't. Ruud didn't take well to being dropped, Saha we never really got a chance to find out about.

Hernandez and Owen seem to be able to cope with it alright, but they're in slightly different situations - Hernandez has gone from playing in Mexico to playing at the top end of European football in one season, Owen was struggling to pimp himself when we bought him. You could say that Solskjaer's been the only top class striker in peak years we've had in the last decade that hasn't minded spending a lot of time on the bench.

Still think the partnership isn't brilliant, 2 great players but both play too much in front of the defence, it still doesn't have brilliant chemistry and I doubt it ever will. I'd prefer one of Hernandez/Wellbeck with one of the other two.

It's a bit sods law for him at the moment. Best season he's had by a distant for United, and he's barely getting a look in. Can't really complain either, Hernandez and Rooney are hitting it off. With Valencia back I think it'll be even worse for him

It's almost laughable. When he wasn't delivering, he stayed in the side. Now he is, and he's being left out of important games.

every game from now till the end of the season is a cup final.

he'll play in plenty of 'important games'.

he'll definitely start bolton at home and whu away. however, i wouldn't b suprised if he started OM home as wel.

He rarely* delivers in the big games though when he gets a chance, maybe not getting the service he wants but still. I'm not a Berba hater that's just the plain truth.

*Scouse hat trick aside;)

His play this season in general makes his selection a lot less dubious than it might have been in previous seasons.

He'll play on Tuesday. Hes just getting rested so hes freash for the run-in.

How much "rest" does he need? He won't play in internationals and was on the bench against Wigan and Chelsea.

Will be very interested to see if he starts or not tomorrow. One start in the last 4-5 games during a very crucial part of the season.

I commented yesterday in a different thread that although he has done well to put on a brave face far as not speaking out to the media etc..

But I wonder what is really going through his head? Surely there is something wrong with his ambition if he is not incredibly frustrated at his status especially considering he is the leagues and the clubs top goal scorer.

I certainly think he should be pissed off. But at the same time I am getting very excited by the Hernandez - Rooney partnership. If this keeps on improving I dont see Berbatov being content with the situation.

You should read an interview or two of his Randall - he's no Tevez in that respect.

Berba's not being rested. Top scorer or not, Rooney's a better player and is hitting his best form of the season and Hernandez has been patiently waiting for his chance and deserves starts. It's slightly unfortunate for Berbatov but his last few appearances have not been his best and the other strikers are hitting some good form.
