Do you really think Sir Alex would be willing to come out and say, no he's been shit and we're trying to pawn him off to the highest bidder????

Because that is exactly what is being done at the moment. Carrick will be very lucky to survive aswell.

What if you're wrong? What if both start with us next season?

Does that mean you were talking out ya backside?

Great to see Berbatov playing with confidence and scoring yesterday. He looked fresh and sharp and was MORE DIRECT (yay) than he tends to be in general.

Obviously he was afforded time and space that competitive PL games don't usually allow, but still, very encouraging signs.

Can anyone with a better memory than me tell me how Berbatov did in last season's pre season period? Was he fit even? Thanks in advance.

He wasted two good chances in the beginning of the game but his overrall performance was top notch and so where his goal and assist. 8 rating from me

I'm not too fond of berbatov but watching him live you really get to see how good he is on the ball. For the most part I've always felt his decision making let him down, today that was alot better, I just hope he can carry this form into the PL. He needs to lay off of losing his cool at every little thing though

I think he was good last pre-season too. Took his goal very well, but he usually does when he scores. Its just in between you get the poor efforts. However, he took the goal just as Rooney would have. Thats probably not the worst sign.

Good observation, his touch made the space for that goal. Great bit of skill, I just hope he can manage to do this in the PL and not bottle it.

Looked great, but its only pre season (Think Veron V Juventus) So although I am wasting my time saying this because a lot will. Please dont all get carried away until we play some real games

I'd agree. Some say that he does not perform when it really matters. So lets wait and see how he does in the League. But its a good start and it should continue like that!

Good performance and took his goal very well, plus had an assist in another goal. Sure, it's only pre-season but let's keep fingers and everything else crossed for god sake that he can do this consistently in the PL week in and week out plus in other competitions.

Problem i've often seen with Berbatov is he does things like this in most games but because we fail to score all those fancy flicks are ignored.

Because fancy flicks are fancy flicks. Goals win you matches. One is a luxury the other is a necessity. The more he does the latter and in important matches, the more the former will be appreciated.

Against Wolfsburg he did a number of those flicks that opened their defence up, we didnt score and people still said he didnt do much

If I may be so bold I think oneutd24 was trying to make the point that Berbatov can unlock defences and created good chances in basically every game he was invloved in last year, but because most of them were squandered his input is ignored by some people.

My point was he does productive things during a match but if they dont lead to a goal people say "hes not doing anything" making chances for teammates is doing something but if they dont score its his fault - against Blackburn he created a 1 on 1 for Valencia and he missed people, after a game of few chances that goal would have sealed it for us but Berbatov was blamed for not doing anything even though 3 of our only real chances of the game had been created by him

Last night was a friendly and I wouldnt read too much into it but if Brerba consistently played like that we would be in with a big chance of winning the League back next year. Mandy thought he had lost weight maybe that has done the trick, hopefully

He did seem to be running a bit more freely. Could be that his shaken off his injury as well as losing some weight.

He did alright, Im scared to get too enthusiastic though

About the running about a bit faster? I dont think we're getting too excited about that. Obviously the good performance is nothing we havent already seen from him, especially in a pre-season friendly or against that quality of team. All we can do is wait for the first big game of the season.

It was in response to Crerard's post about Mandy suggesting he'd lost some weight. I have no idea if he has.

He definitely looked leaner. Although he might have been reading womens mags to find a haircut that would make it look that way.

Word is he has been weight lifting and trying to tone up. Looks like the injury problem is behind him and has a spring in his step. Fingers crossed.

Agrree absolutely, we will judge him on competitive matches

I was looking for this video. Wow ... Those who play, know how difficult/impossible it is to kill that ball

...and look at his body language. This is simply who he is and some fans hate him for that, but that doesn't make him any less of a footballer.
Berba could make any woman...you know- with a touch like that :D

That touch is quite sexy. I remember one of Ole's where he controlled a lob that was coming from behind, and got it moving forward, in one touch - while running.

He probably won't even play in our first big game of the season.

Is correct.

We'll look to match the opposition in midfield and play Rooney up top on his own.

This will then be used as evidence that Berbatov was a waste of money and if we fail to win the game, despite him getting a few minutes off the bench, he'll be public enemy number one again.

Tout ca change....

It's not just about the big games though. If he can do a job against the likes of spurs, villa, everton that would be a huge lift for the team. Lets face it, there will be days when Rooney doesn't fire, so if Berba gets on a roll and scores 15-20 goals a season that will allow SAF to give Rooney the rest he needs.

Berba may not start against big teams, that might be a tactical decision SAF takes...so I won't see that as a sleight on Berba. We all know he can't play the lone striker well enough, so as long as he continues to get his goals that will keep him confident and give us that option in case Rooney isn't firing or gets injured.

One game but, seemed to contain most of what people want from him.

His wasted chances early - the header across goal was difficult but, didn't miss by much, the lay off by Diouf chance, should have hit the target but, was good clean attempt - unlike Obertan's.

Best was watching him take the ball off of Scholes off of a Celtic corner and springing a break in the 17th - what came over him?

One game - lets hope for more of the same.

If Carrick finds some form then 442 is definitely an option even in big games. We set up that way sometimes at the start of last season.

We had 2 strikers (3 at the end) on the field but, we didn't play in a typical 4-4-2 at any time.

The trio of Diouf, Berbatov and Obertan seemed constantly on the move and Giggs would come in on either flank or through the middle and Fletcher or Scholes would once in a while make the runs through the middle as well.

The commentators were crap yesterday but, one thing I have to agree with one said was SAF needs to find a way to get Berbatov and Rooney on the field at the same time in big games.

In a system like the one yesterday where the front 3 players are not tied to one specific position - you could accommodate Berbatov and Rooney without needing to resort to a 4-4-2.

A setup of

Carrick, Fletcher, Valencia
Nani, Rooney, Berbatov

Valencia could be the more attack minded mid with the front 3 constantly roaming and changing positions.

The "berbasex" bridage are even more obnoxious than the "berbahaters" lot, anyway he looked healthier than I have ever seen him last night, and took his goal really well.

One thing I didn't catch the first time around (since watched it on and off) was the continued frustration Berbatov showed to the youngsters.

Kicking the ball away once Obertan's cross/shot missed, another that stuck out was he was in the middle and had a go at Cleverly for completely messing up a pass, Gibson had an exchange with Diouf and Berbatov made a good run and Gibo didn't pick it up and tried to play Diouf instead. There were others

He definitely needs to show more patience with these youngsters - in pre-season.

I have in the past been critical against Berbatov but that's now history.

Dimitar's problem is mostly in his own head. Bad self-confidence is his worst enemy. I hope he will stay fit and have a good pre-season. Maybe a few goal's will "big" him up and turn him in to the great player we all want him to be.

I think the key thing for him this season is;

a) to play further up in the field
b) more speed forward when he receive the ball (instead of slowing things down)
c) play with normal self-confidence

Manchester United's latest fledglings getting ready to fly

.................

What will have encouraged Ferguson against Celtic, and surprised many United observers in the process, was the leadership shown to Welbeck, Diouf, Macheda and Tom Cleverley by Dimitar Berbatov.

"His performance was excellent and what I was pleased about was, among the strikers we have with us at the moment, there is a manner of different combinations," the United manager said. "I thought he [Berbatov] and Diouf were very good in the first half.

"Diouf has got different talents to Macheda and Welbeck and he penetrates well. He is quick and aggressive, he is an interesting player, and I think that suited Berbatov. In the second half, he produced some fantastic moments and it underlines the one great factor; that class he has. You cannot take that away from him. No matter how many people criticise him, it never comes from inside our camp. We see that class. We know we've got the right player."

Amid the focus on the young, it is still within the considerable abilities of the 29-year-old Bulgarian, who scored the opening goal against Celtic, to bring something new to United next season.

Sir Alex Ferguson, Manager, Manchester United Football Club; 16 July 2010

I'd like everybody who has given an opinion on what our manager or people in the club think about Dimitar Berbatov to slowly read the above quote and memorise it.

Of course your free to have your own opinion but if its alright with you, I'll listen to the boss thanks.

SAF in defending his player shock. Hardly going to come out and say anything else.

No one denies Berbatov has class which is why seeing him not perform is even more frustrating.
