Indeed. People need to finally accept that.
What bugs me though is that he started well last season too. Only had no luck in front of goal. He's the same Berba, just 4 goals and an assist better than last year.
Also, is it me, or almost every goal Berba scores is a beauty and has something special about it? It's like he can't score a simple one

Well that's quite a big difference, in fairness.

was a constant threat, kept possession well, some excellent running, great finish

keep it up dimi

It makes the world of difference for a striker. But that's what I am saying. Just as good, only with a bit better luck in front of goal.

I'd go along with that, IMO he isnt doing anything majorly different that last season - people say "hes working harder" rubbish, he used to work hard in previous seasons but a lot went a miss because he wouldnt get a assist/goal but this season he seems to be more confident in front of goal which has got people to realise what he does in addition to scoring.

But a CF is judged by the goals he scores, lets just hope this new found confidence in front of goal continues

Amen. His Languidness is looking good and I am very happy for him and the team.

see....., me, Erica and Feedme were telling posters about Berba for so long, they just wouldn't listen!

now they are just reinforcing what we were saying all along! Can you believe they preferred that Judas Tevez over all this class?

:nervous: hehe!

Playing very well right now.

I've always had his back despite all the criticism. When he plays with that freedom, works that hard and isn't afraid to show a goal threat, he's pure class. He's been one consistent shining light in our attack so far and I hope he keeps this momentum going.

It's about time we signed the real Berbatov.

I've been one of his biggest bashers since he joined the club and its very encouraging to see him play with this much passion and desire.

Feck is he in great form or what? I think this is what United fans expect from him and I hope he keeps it up.

Amen to that Stretch!

If he was a bit luckier (or more clinical) with his finishing he could have and probably would have had another 2-3 goals more! (the Newcastle match springs to mind).

I hope he keeps this up, especially in the bigger games.

His performances depend on his level of confidence; early in his days back at Leverkusen, he had a run of poor performances, was dropped and only occasionally selected in the starting line-up.

Once he became an important member of the first-team, he scored goals, oozed class, flicks, skills here and there, he really showed what he can do.

Loving his play at the moment, but we're still left with the same old problem of having to play 4-4-2 to accommodate both him and Rooney. And 4-4-2 will not work for us against the better sides with our weak central midfield.

With the kind of form Berbatov is, We might move Rooney back to the left wing when we were playing Ronaldo upfront.
Berbatov isnt the best leading the line but did quite well against Everton the other day.

i dont think hes in great form, its more of an expected form. he was just playing really bad before.

theres still more to come

Hmm, and then play Nani on the right. It's an interesting idea.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxBerbatov

Rooney Scholes Fletcher Carrick/Gibson Nani

xxxxxxxxEvra Rio Vidic Rafael

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxVDS

bench: PIG, Giggs, Valencia, O'Shea, Hernandez, Park, Evans

No Rooney on the left please, not that he can't play there but we already know his best position so why force him just for the sake for playing Berbs in the CM.

I'm positive that we can play 4-4-2, either with big teams or small teams.

We've seen a MF of Anderson/Scholes do it against Liverpool etc... So I can't see why a Carrick/Fletch, Fletch/Ando, Carrick/Ando will not work....

Rooney's work rate can compensate for the lack of MF and its not like Berbs is not tracking back anymore...

Also, if we deploy Giggsy on the left he'll act like the 3 MF anyway as he'll let Evra cover LW as Evrar has enough pace and work rate to cover the left.

Did anyone see his finish ? It was almost as if it was the Berbatov who wasn't trying, in a good way.

What a goal though, great peel off of Distin, fantastic first touch and the finish was out of this world.

Giggs wasn't playing as a winger against Everton. I can't see why Rooney can't play the exact same role.

I don't really see the issue with a so-called '4-4-2' if it is fluid and the players are interchanging their positions upfront, which Nani does well and so did Berba vs. Everton, with one drifting into the centre and the other dropping to the wing.

What I would like to see on a consistent basis is:

VDS

defense

Valencia - Fletcher - Scholes - Nani

Berba
Rooney

I also realize that we need to saturate midfield in some matches and in this case one of Rooney or Berba will probably get dropped. Play the one who is in better form, simple.

Nah, I don't think anyone on the forum saw it!
:p

Agree. If Rooney would play a bit deeper similar to his England outing, he can provide the necessary cover to the midfield, while still be a goal threat.

So Berbatov isn't even on the bench today, which means he's being rested for the Liverpool game. Do you guys think we'll try a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 with Rooney on the left?

I hope we try the 4-3-3 one.

Can't see Berbatov being left out twice in a row in this form. He's clearly being saved, otherwise he'd have been on instead of Owen

In Liverpools current form, a 4-4-2 should be enough to see them off. Good to have Scholes, Nani & Berba back in the playing 11.

For the record I want to say he has had a decent start to the season.

I just hope he's not carrying a knock or getting grief from his dodgy knee.

Nah Pogue - Fergie said that he probably ought to have selected him against Rangers. Said he would have been creative in the tight spaces. That would indicate that he was just completely rested.

Berba-bashers, how's that humble pie tasting?

For the record I want to say he has had a decent start to the season.

He has, and he'll be judged on what he does, not what he's capable of.

berba will sleep happily now he's been given your tepid approval

You're a defender of the Berbafaith. I forgive your lame Berbacare.

I posted merely so that tiresome people like yourself don't come back with the "but you never post positive comments about Berba when he's playing well" whine once he starts to revert to his normal self again. And I am sure this will happen, but will be happy to be proven wrong, as I have often said.

To adapt a famous quote :

Berbatov "is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma".

Maybe he'll be less of one by the end of this season - then again, maybe not.
