done well so far today.

I can't decide whether he's learnt how to play with the players we already had, or they have learnt how to play with him, but either way he's looking bright this season

Faded horribly today. Again when the chips are down he did not produce for us. May sound harsh, but he only looks good when the rest of the team does. As yet it is not within him to grab a tough game like today and stamp his mark.

A bit too harsh though, it's hard as a striker to influence a game when your midfield is being bitch slapped

He was decent but he's not the sort of player that will step up and turn a match and he never will be.

Typically, lots of silly bugger responses in this thread. We're still very early in the season and to a man, I thought we were under par.

Agreed.

For someoe who drops deep like him he should have been way more influential.

Your comment is relevent to a striker like Owen

Very few players do.

and against Chelsea, maybe I'm looking too much into this but everytime he's free Berba decides to take a shot on or look elsewhere, it's just so unlike him.

Yeah it's weird. Sometimes he passes too much when he should shoot. But he just never seems to play Hernandez in. I'm sure they'll get better the more they play together.

The dropped points seem to have brought out the knives. Berbatov had a pretty good game - he was in and around the box a lot, got some shots on target, dropped deep, setup Scholes very nicely. Overall a good game but, credit Fulham as well - they played well, defended well not letting balls get to our strikers.

You could say that of every player though.

Yeah the performance as a unit worries me more than individuals. As soon as Fulham began to pass it nicely we almost looked frightened. Evans was mauled by Zamora.

I thought he could have played in Hernandez a number of times

Gotta agree. On the one hand it was good to see him making sure to get on the end of things and having an appetite for goal, but for some reason he completely ignored his strike partner in much better positions time and again.

He's terrible in the air.The crazy is that he gets many opportunities thanks to his height and spring but his headers are rarely on target.

Every header he seems to scoop over the bar. Infuriating.

Evans was being beaten by Zamora physically.

Question: why didn't Vidic and Evans swap positions? Vidic is physically more dominating than Evans, so why didn't he take Zamora?

He did well today and I am a Berba critic

Thought he played well today, certainly the most involved striker by a distance anyway.

Had we won, think that would have been the consensus. There are things to pick at but, first reactions seem to be on the negatives now with the loss.

I would agree with that but then Vidic just let Zamora bulldoze him on the goal. Utterly disappointed.

You criticise him for passing too much, now you're criticising him for not passing enough!

Seriously.

Didn't think he was great today but looked a threat and as simple as the pass looked for the goal it was perfectly executed - as pointed out by Scholes with his celebration aimed at Berbatov, possibly planned - and all in all he did what a lot of people questioned of him throughout his career...stayed high up the pitch and was more single-minded.

He just wasn't very good, because that simplistic role isn't very useful any more. When he was playing before(and being criticised) and didn't look like scoring himself he played much better than today.

He's in a lose-lose situation, it's always going to be more about how he does it than what he does. It's just not an endearing type of play to the fans.

Berba played with confidence today, certainly a change from last season. As the game went on, he faded away from the game but definitely one of our better players today.

Seriously, thats not whats been suggested. Nobody has posted up his attempted passes and said "Look, he didnt pass enough! Greedy bastard!"

But there's one player he could have found a number of times and had he done so, it would have led to one or two simple goals for United. And he, on multiple occasions, ignored that option to try and do it himself.

Sometimes single-mindedness is a good quality for a striker. But only if you make the most of it a good amount of the time. Its a quality that serves Eto'o well for example. But Berbatov constantly tried and failed to grab the glory today.

I think he will have a big season for us and once we hit top gear he will showcase his skills but I still don`t think he is the right player for us but hopefully he can prove us all wrong!

I think you can always tell whether Berbatov has played well by gauging how many people are jumping on his back.

The Caf realises he was a bright spot today, hence very little criticism. He has a good game today.

None of his chances were gaping ones/sitters.

He was unlucky with a fair proportion of them.

he was alright, wasn't poor by any means, if one of his chances went in, we would all be singing a different tune I guess

My first reaction at the end of the game was to delete it, so I don't have the benefit of rewatching it but, can you elaborate how he constantly tried to grab the glory - are you saying when he took a shot on that he had a far better option instead?

Absolutely.

He had a load of efforts on goal today. Something we've all been asking for. He's definitely being a lot more direct this term.

He continued his good start to the season. He could have done more, naturally, but he was one of our brightest sparks.

Of course he can't. It's just the stock response. There are a load of them. Look:

O'Shea is shit.

Scholes/Giggs are too old.

Nani/Anderson have a poor attitude.

Gibson isn't good enough.

Ozil.

I disagree about him having a good game he like most today were predictable and uninspired. Its going to be a long season if we dont improve considerably
