Diego Costa | Excused from start of pre season training

I'm honestly surprised Conte decided to tell one of top scorers last season that he doesn't need him through a text message. Not even a phone call, let alone an in-person meeting. Their relationship must've been really strained.

You mean like the big games where Costa generally went missing too? The caf's portrayal of Costa is a little too high relative to Chelsea fans. I'd say a majority of fans want him to piss off after he downed tools in the second half of the season. The only thing I'm confused about is why Conte insisted on playing him especially when he's not in his plans and he has a hungry young player on the bench who's answered the call every time he's been called upon.

Yeah weird comment, I've seen Costa have plenty of terrible games against the top clubs.

I think Lukaku is weirdly underrated on here just as much as Costa is hilariously overrated by some.

Speaks volumes about how much of a cnut Costa is when he was their second best and second most important player last season, and still the manager decides to carry on without him and dump him by SMS.

Must be pure poison behind the scenes, either that or Wolf Eyes Conte is a stone cold psychopath.

He's a cnut. This is nothing new and he proved it under Jose and proved it again under Conte when the Chinese offer came.

However, I think Conte should have dealt with this in a much better way. No need to make it clear to the media by sending a message to Costa that spread it everywhere. He should have told the board only.

If Costa is anything off the field like he is on it, then I'm not surprised Conte has such little respect for him that he told him he's not wanted via a text message

Costa comes across as a vile man that makes Suarez look somewhat likeable by comparison. I'd literally prefer Tom Cleverley playing up front than him.

From what I can gather it seems a text message exchange escalated to the point it concluded with Conte telling Costa to find another club.I don't think that's unreasonable.

If your manager is messaging you to make sure you're looking after your fitness, during the summer, and you cheek him up he's going to tell you you're finished.

He's much better than Morata/Belotti etc. No reason we shouldn't be after him.
Yes there actually is a very good reason to not go after him. He was one of the players that downed tools for our current manager because he's an utter twat.

Some of the Chelsea players did no doubt but I'm not sure how much/if he did. Obviously Mourinho knows more about him than anyone here and if he thinks his attitude would be fine I'm all for it. As for him being a twat I don't care, there's loads of twat footballers who would be a huge upgrade on what we've got and we've had plenty of twats playing for us.

He obviously did, because he was utter shite that season Jose got sacked, then all of a sudden was fecking brilliant again.

The entire team was garbage then all of a sudden brilliant again.
Costa was one of the ones that didn't look interested at all. He completely downed tools, wasn't even chasing balls and playing his normal aggressive self.

You could use that argument for the entire team. If Mourinho believes Costa was one of the players who "betrayed him" then obviously it makes no sense but amongst us fans it's merely speculation. If Mourinho thinks otherwise I'd have no issue with us moving for him.

Meh. Wouldn't fancy him here. He's been linked with China and returning to Atleti every summer since he signed for Chelsea. We get enough of that with De Gea. Don't think he's too taken with England.

They had public row in CL match against Maccabi. There were reports some of the players were trying to calm down Costa at half time after they exchange some "lovely" words. The reason for that is because Costa didn't bother to run too much in the game, not for the first time in the season. After that he throw warm up bib at Jose when he didn't use him as a substitute in EPL match.

He didn't just downed tools, he behaved like a complete moron and was full of disrespect. No wonder that Conte told him by text message to find another club. Probably doesn't want to see his face again. I am sure he won't play for us.

Fair enough I was unaware of the specifics on their relationship.

Maybe Costa has been acting the d!ck since Xmas and Conte now has a chance to pay him back with the same coin.

A solution to a problem would be; Costa on loan to United until January, Costa signs for Atletico in January, Griezmann signs for United in January.

There are obviously a few factors which make this unlikely, but under different circumstances it would possibly suit all parties.

Don't buy the notion that Chelsea don't get weaker by losing him and replacing with Lukaku. Yes Lukaku might score more goals but overall play and what he brings to Chelsea (when on form, which he was for about 30 league games this season) is far superior. Costa is not just a nightmare for his annoying antics but his hold up play, unpredictable skill and work ethic to win the ball back are big parts of what made Chelsea successful this season. He's also a fairly decent finisher, I back him most times when one on one.

Think Chelsea are the ones who lose out if he goes personally unless they replace him with someone superior which is almost impossible in this market.

So apparently Conte sent a text to all players wishing them a happy holiday with their families but to remember to stay in shape. Costa doesn't like the advice and gets pissy with Conte who doesn't hesitate to tell him 'you're not in my plans anyway'. Costa gets more pissy and forwards the messages to Chelsea's board, especially MG (our main negotiator). Costa tells her he is looking for a new club. She tells him that the club will be the ones who decide.

It seemed weird, like Conte out of the blue says feck off by text. That's not his style. I think Costa REALLY wants to leave and realised he isn't going to hold the club to ransom (with some reports that the board and Conte have agreed for a while he is going anyway) and so gets it out in public, maybe even advice from his agent.

Throwing a bib when he isn't played, drinking beer at half time, flirting with AM every year, arguing with fitness coaches. The guys a tv show! Embarrassing thing is I think the club still has him under their thumb and taking no bs. Don't forget Malouda got the reserve treatment for 2 years.

Unless you know the details of the exchange, you cannot put the blame wholly on Costa, no matter how much of a cvnt you think he is. Even before the text message, there were several indications that Chelsea were looking to buy Lukaku to replace him.

Also, if Costa's version is to be believed, its Chelsea that wanted to sell him to China but Costa declined, preferring to go to Atletico.

no way this is spur of the moment. He was always leaving tbh, lets face it. The China stuff in January would have happened had Chelsea not been on course for the title.

Lukaku wont be their only striker signing i bet.

He wanted to leave every window.

Well this obviously makes Lukaku to Chelesea more obvious.

Hopefully Costa ends up with Milan.

I was thinking this while eating my tea

I was more commenting on the thoughts about Conte dumping him by text. It appeared a lot of people were under the impression Costa just got messaged he was out, without referencing the reality of the initial contact. It looks like there was some back-and-forth, then Conte lost it - for whatever reason.

Thanks for other info, but when did this happen? He was not playing I suppose? Playing drunk could explain some of his behavior, though.

Makes perfect sense, which is why, unfortunately, it will never happen.

You think Morata or Belotti are better?

The entire team was garbage then all of a sudden brilliant again.
His antics and negative attitude outweigh anything he would bring to our team. I expect our players to have certain ethical and moral standards.

No it's not so much a question of whether he's better or not, it's the way Costa generally acts that turns everyone off; he's utterly classless. Surely you can see that?

I have a feeling he's afraid of Costa

Yeah, that could be the case also. Costa has a valid contract and a nice paycheck, should stay there for at least half a year just to wind him up.

After that, he can go to Atletico as their ban would be lifted.

Do you really think we would agree to a deal like this?

We give a title rival a world class striker for 6 months free of charge, sell him to Atletico Madrid in January which then enables you to buy a world class player in Griezmann. Madness

Also, no chance Costa plays under Mourinho again, downed tools on him last season and then threw a bib at him in full view of everyone. Total disrespect
