Television Dexter

I like Dexter but the show the next season should be the last one. In fact, it should have ended after the fourth season.

Next season is indeed the final one. It's set to start early this time around though..somewhere around the 30th of June.

It wouldn't surprise me if next season was a fairly drawn out investigation into Deborah and Dexter, with the season after that being the run. I hope not, though. They'll be stretching it beyond belief and wasting a good opportunity to wrong a few rights if they don't put that in a single season.

I think they said the 8th season is the last. I reckon Bautista will investigate Maria's murder and Dex and Deb will get caught (or at least one of them).

Just finished season 5. I am reading lots of negative review for season 6? Is it really bad? I've liked all 5 seasons so far. Don't think season 3 was as bad as people were making out.

A lot of people will say yes, but if you liked all 5 seasons so far you might like it anyway.

No, watch it and judge for yourself I'd say.

Not even close to bad.

Just ignore Cina when it comes to Dexter. Ridiculously over-critical.

Dexter doesn't ever reach the heights it did in seasons 1,2 and 4 but it's still a very enjoyable TV show.

Ah yes, that's why when during season 5 I said the show was going downhill, nobody agreed with me, only for them all to agree a year later that it had gotten shit.

I agree that I've enjoyed all seasons so far, although 1,2 and 4 were best.

Yeah, to be fair to you most of the posts were pretty unanimous around that time that the season was poor.

Just start watching it and judge for yourself. It isn't as good as the earlier seasons, but still watchable.

That's what I though. Although maybe not as bad as some seem to think it has been. And while season's 1,2 and 4 were the best, series 3 wasn't that bad either. 5 onwards have been worth watching but nowhere near as good as what went before. I hope they finish it with a great final series.

The sixth season is by far the worst. Though fifth and seventh are pretty bad too (except Yvonne part).

Not many TV Shows can maintain their quality for 7 seasons. At least Dexter had some real quality seasons up until 5 but it set a very high bar for itself, which is difficult to replicate for so long. Having said that, the story still didnt match the disastrous levels such as the later Prison Breaks, Lost etc...

Season 5 was probably the worst as you could skip that and go from 4 to 6 and not miss anything in terms of character development, etc. Season 6 is required for the end id say. Season 7 starts of really good but has some stupid kills.

So do you guys recommend this show? I've seen one episode which was decent, but this didnt seem like a series I really wanted to get into.

I agree, though I watch most things people complain have deteriorated - like with Prison Break. It went downhill after the first season but still watched it to the end. Once I've started watching something I tend to watch it till the end.

Depends what sort of shows you're usually into.

Looking at this post, you've seen most of the shows I've seen:

Okay so in recent years some of the series I've seen are Prison break, 24, west wing, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad and The walking dead. (We can cross off prison break as it was shit after the first season).

So this may be something you like, but looking at some of your other posts in the EF it'll probably be something you'll end up hating if you do start getting into it.

Cheers Damien, definitely got that database up and running. Yeah I really end up hating shows that lose their way.

Prison break season 1 was great and even thought I watched all of it, it continued to go downhill.

Homeland I watched, but it was losing its way half way through with that crazy woman IMO though I'm yet to find anyone else who agrees with me.

Flash forward, lets not even go there.

Even walking dead is annoying me with how's it's going.

Breaking Bad has been brilliant all the way through so is probably in my top 2 favourite series.

I'd say watch the first series and see how you feel. Funnily enough I've just started rewatching from the start of Season One as they've just started from the beginning on CBS Action (148 on Sky if you've got it), though they're up to about episode 11 of the first season now and they show an episode every night, obviously better off doing it through online if you want to power watch it.

Episode 8 of season one is all kinds of awesome. They also go way overboard with the sex with Deb getting a pounding and then Rita too. Buttnaked Rita? Cant go wrong with that

I would highly recommend it if only for series' 1-4, these are really quite brilliant and then it goes downhill a little but by then you will know if you want to carry on dependent on how much you enjoy it up until that point.

I don't know if I can do that. If I start a show I have to carry it through to the end no matter how Shit it gets. Might put it on the back burner for now, the wire will be ahead of this.

I know the feeling too well. I watched FlashForward to the end as well. :( Dexter is a brilliant show. The first 4 seasons are up there with the best shows ever, but as you can see by this page it went downhill from there. Still a very enjoyable show IMO, and still good compared to a lot of other shows, but quite a way below the standards they started out with.

If you haven't watched The Wire yet though I'd definitely recommend starting with that. If you get disappointed by that you deserve a ban!

Series four and to a lesser extent one are the only "great" seasons though, two is good and three is just as poor as five.

I loved that show. It started brilliantly and was one the way of becoming one of my favorite. And then, it became shit with pointless episodes and pointless characters, just for the sake of having 24 episodes a season. Ultimately it backfired, but I think that if they had decided to make 10-12 episodes a season (like GOT, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Dexter) that show could have been a big success.

Pretty much agree with your other two points. First four seasons are very good (especially the first and the fourth which are some of my favorite seasons of TV shows). Then the standard drastically decreases, with sixth being as bad as it could be.

Anyway, it is a no brainier that The Wire is much better.

The prospect of spending 24 hours watching Elisha Cuthbert get chased by a jaguar is rather tempting.

That was horrendously bad to be fair.

The concept of the show forced stuff like that on it though, if it was possible to have it as a 12/14 episode season we'd have lost a lot of the filler that we had to put up with. All your great shows couldn't manage to maintain their quality if they had to produce 24 episodes a season.

Ill always love the show.
